Early on in the year I posted the picture above of a tshirt I bought from my friend TataBotata. Back then they weren’t on sale yet since his website wasn’t up and running but yesterday I found out the site is now ready. The Luke Ana Abouk tshirt along with some of his other creative creations are now being sold [Here]

If anyone is coming to Doha anytime soon, I want some T-shirts :(

I can’t order online because I’m not in Kuwait anymore.

  2. n19 says:

    22KD for a shirt?
Is it made from the dreams of pregnant mermaids and unicorn tears?

  3. 3azeez says:

I don’t get the point of writing english words in arabic. its stupid and not creative. The only shirt I truly liked was the one with word mustache written on it in arabic.

I would never by any of those shirts because its priced kd 22.
I also love local tees designs and capital district. but i also never bought those because they are expensive.

for god’s sake, its just a half cotton tshirt! yes i understand that you want to be paid for your creativity. but do you want your creativity to be limited to the filthy rich or the stupid spenders?!

Okay I might have paid 20 KD if it was a BETTER quality shirt. but for that? no way… unless Picasso hand painted it!

    • Tata Botata says:

      3azeez,

You didn’t actually see the t-shirt, so you’re not really in a position to decide whether it was ‘BETTER’ or not. The t-shirts are printed on American Apparel 100% Fine Jersey cotton t-shirts.

If you’re still butt-hurt about the price, please use the following Coupon Code to get 10% off your order

      IAMACHEAPSKATEWHOWONTBUYANYTHINGANYWAYS

Try it, I only issued it for you.

I remember tatabotata was one of the first ppl in kuwait to do creative tshirt design (interms of producing and selling) FBK and 3azma 3ala 3azma . well done T & Keep it up

  5. jeslee says:

but isn’t the above a copyright infringement?

george lucus is not going to like…he might sent the storm troopers

I Bought a Black – t-shirt from Salmya Got a PNG picture of a band on google images and all of that costed me 7KD xD ! Also I’m going to make a t-shirt that says “لوك ابوك لا ابو ابوك”

  7. lulz says:

For about 15 KD I can get a plain Armani shirt and have it printed with my logo of choice for an additional 2 KD. For a similar amount I can get this shirt plus shipping http://diazbrothers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/IMG_6535-682×1024.jpg

  8. Razzag says:

Its interesting how everyone is breaking down the production cost and not including the creative time and effort put in. In business time is money, therefore its just fair to consider the price of the designers/artists time and effort.

    Just my opinion

    • Desert Girl says:

I agree, Razzag. How about helping out another home-grown small, struggling entrepreneur in Kuwait?

With all the people running around here in 100KD na’al (expensive men’s flip-flops) and 600kd bags… puhleeeeeze!

Tata – MY personal favorite of your VERY CREATIVE t-shirt designs is “Legalize Booze”. Keep up the good work, my friend!

      • Tata Botata says:

LOL That’s out of the circulation as I’m trying to keep a low profile with the authorities nowadays. :p

      • 3azeez says:

Would love to help “home-grown small, struggling entrepreneur” But our “entrepreneurs dont want to help themselves.

You think that if I fork out a 22 dinars would help him for real? Pricing like this means EITHER he’s unable to provide with large quantities to meet demand OR he value his work so much he’s losing his vision and direction!

an ex friend of mine is an artist and she used to do this kind of art work on her computer. trust me this is not like carrying cement bags to the top of a building under construction. Yes it may take couple of days to do the illustration, but its -i suppose- a fun and not to intensive task to do.

The printing and distribution is all done through a different company. all one has to do is upload their picture online to some website and everything else will be taken care off!

“With all the people running around here in 100KD na’al (expensive men’s flip-flops) and 600kd bags… puhleeeeeze!”

Yes, I’m buying by the end of the year Enshallah a 2,000 dinars watch and i had a 500 kd ring specially made for me just few months back. BUT both have precious metals. The watch is a brand name and social status, the ring is hand crafted and has precious gemstones.

What about look ana obok? yes its funny, i like it… but as one just said, its not a 22 dinars funny!

IF this person wants to succeed, he must first be known. To be known you must be popular, and to be popular you must be affordable.

If this shirt was six or max ten dinars i would have bought it. If I bought it, i’m willing to bet that half of my friends in the diwaniya will want to buy the same.

and if half of my friends at diwaniya went and boought that shirt or other style shirts from his website… they’d be walking around with them… girls would then get curious and check the website,,, and there you have more people wearing those shirts and people would start posting pictures on instagram and all of a sudden this is the hot new thing that everyone speaks about and wants.

Look ana obok is 22 dinar. I have never ever seen anyone wearing it in real life. the only time i’ve seen it was here when Mark posted about it long time ago.

I’m buying the 2,000 dinars watch cuz I want it so bad since i was 12 years old. my had one (though not necessarily the 2k one), father friends had same brand, uncles, no at work most managers are wearing it, and back in kuwait the replicas are filling the market. so everyone is wearing it… and the fact that i saw it on the hand on one of the girls at NBK (which was a replica btw) makes me want it even more! it would be the most expensive watch i have ever bought… but i feel its worth it, replica wont cut it for me.

        Did I make my point?
I want to see you, Desert Girl, wearing that 22 dinars ana obok shirt :)

    • Tata Botata says:

      Seriously!

I had numerous offers to just license the artworks and just get paid for royalties, but I didn’t want to cheapen the value of these t-shirts and give someone the right to print millions of them saturating the market and making them look stupid and boring.

      • Mark says:

        I heart tatabotata

      • 3azeez says:

        Seriously?
You should go for it. If you are creative and able to come up with more creative work.. then do go ahead with that. The more work you produce, the more you’ll get paid. In fact it will be less headache for you since all that will be required from you is to design and send that design. I’m also pretty sure that those people who take your designs will be able to supply the market with those shirts at less cost and thus more reach to customers.

i’m in no position to give art critique however please take this opinion into consideration: do not follow the steps of capital district in which their creativity is limited to ‘stealing’ trademarks and adding additional art work to them. Also avoid writing english words in arabic. this is not funny, not meaningful and just a fading hype.

Local Tees designs are nicer and sometimes ‘funnier’ than local district because they use meaningful arabic words and messages.

        good luck

  9. Tata Botata says:

I would love to see anyone get off their ass and actually for once do something.

  10. Summer says:

I’m loving the designs, but I do agree that they’re a bit over priced.

  11. Nasser says:

Are the shirts limited edition like Local Tees? Or will they be continuously available inshallah?

  12. Tata Botata says:

    La ya ba3ad 3youni.

There will be a new collection with different designs, different themes and variations every season hopefully, so for the time being I don’t see a reason for these to continue getting reprinted. So yeah, we are limited edition like Local Tees.

I should mention that I’m big fan of both Local Tees and Capital District, good people behind these labels.

  13. bassam says:

honestly i think its a nice shirt but very expensive. ok creativity but that does not mean make it more expensive than high end brands. plus i dont like the guys attitude when people say its expensive he says they are cheap ? no i am not willing to get ripped off here . and mark please try to be baised , you kick a$$ too much for every thing.

  14. Neoark25 says:

I did see those in Gust two/three years ago while I was walking there with a friend who was looking for stuff.

  15. Tuan says:

22Kd + 2Kd For Delivery.. Now That Is Too Much

  16. The Real Burhan says:

I ordered one, the order was accepted, I never got asked to pay anything; and I keep getting an email that your order is pending.

    So now what?

  17. Khalid says:

Is there a way or place to try the shirt first? I usually wear Large but sometimes X-Large.. Not sure what size to order

  18. Tata Botata says:

We are sorry but the only physical location they are being sold at is in Dubai.

  19. lloyd_911 says:

Last time it was a 90kd something dinner and now a 22kd t-shirt. Wow, inflation is probably higher than I thought…..!
But realistically speaking Tata Botata is an artist, so he can quote any price he wants for stuff that is his original design, it really is upto him. I appreciate art and you cannot really put a price on art.
But think of it like this, if I did buy a T-shirt from the website, I am paying a premium for a relatively unknown brand/artist. Is it worth really that much?
Type ‘Luke, I am your father’ in google translate, and you get it in arabic. Do you have permission to use copyrighted material for commercial purposes (The image of Darth Vader)? I’m sorry to say this, but the only creativity I could make out in the shirt pictured above is the arabic dialogue.
I did not look at other stuff on the site, but at 22kd I wouldn’t buy it.
Another thing, a true artist takes criticism in his stride, not like ‘You think my design is too expensive? You could use a HEREHAVEAFREETSHIRTYOUCHEAPSKATE coupon.’
I wish you all the best on your venture. Restructure your pricing and work on designs with more originality, you should do well.

  20. KTDP says:

lukes funny, sounds funy, pun intended.

  21. meh says:

I think the 22KD is a valid price since he bought the rights to use Darth Vaders image for financial gain, considering also Lucasfilm is getting a cut from that 22KD probably.

  22. Anonymous says:

I think the price is right on target considering the quality and creativity. If you’re not comfortable with the price then you’re probably not the consumer being targeted for this product. Every business person has a specific audience they’re attempting to reach. Personally, I don’t find mass produced brand name items to be appealing or worth the prices they charge but it doesn’t stop Christian Louboutin from making shoes.

As Lioyd said, this person is an artist and is charging for their concept while maintaining the quality of the brand and refusing to sell out to the masses. I think this says a lot about the creator in terms of respecting their work. He could have just as easily purchased a cheap product and opted for a cheap printing job which would have resulted in a cheap product.

  23. @Dandoon85 says:

can’t believe how people complain about everything these days! don’t like it? don’t buy it. simple.

i’m a huge tata fan! always wanted one of his tshirts, finally getting my hands on one!
