Largest bookstore in Kuwait opening soon

It looks like Al Salasil will be opening their bookstore at the Avenues soon. It’s supposed to be the largest bookstore in Kuwait, yes you read right… BOOKSTORE! Over the Eid they placed transparent boxes filled with books at the airport with a teaser message “Heading to the biggest bookstore in Kuwait”. I hope it turns out to be cool.

  1. Cant think of a name says:

Omg! Seriously?! But is it going to be an actual bookstore or will be just like virgin?

  2. Kuwaitiful says:

Ironically virgin didn’t profit much in Kuwait because we have such a high rate of piracy. Many were thinking why buy a legit DVD when I can easily download it for free.

They did profit from books though as those are tangible goods. Most readers would rather buy the book to support the author anyway. So I have hopes for this!

  3. Nasdee says:

Great news! We need more stores like this! By any chance do you know whos their advrtising agency? Or who did the teasers for them? Love the idea!

  4. xeonali says:

many books get banned in q8 anyway .. but good luck to them ..

  5. J Daily says:

m3 elipad ma gmna n7taj books,, elnet tarrs ebooks ;D

  6. Yousef says:

yet another concept store in one of the most pretentious malls in kuwait.
never have i been the buisness expert but yes ofcourse this will do well, watch it have its own in-cafe, where you could go and read your book and have a quiet coffe, or the people who are in to supposedly doing work “quietley”, mind you still forgeting theyr in avenues.
what happened to the old bookstores where we all went to as kids, manara bookshop, old salmiya bookshop and the huge bookstore in the basement of muthana, now thats a bookstore. and also recenlty virgin who i loved when it open until it became a gift shop/noveltey store.
you know what i realy dont know why i got all fired up and started ranting but i realy do love the idea of new bookshops being open in kuwait and people starting to buying and reading specialy in generation of wiki-graduates who do seem to know about alot of things with no extensive knoledge or backgroun and not knowing if the pieces of fact are right or wrong, but hopefuly people do go in there to buy and intend to read the book and not for the sole purpose of trying to impress someone by walking around with a plastic bag which seems to say “i am an intullect, i read book”. lol, yes i meant book

  7. nYx says:

Yousef: you just nailed it right there. Wiki Graduates are mostly intellectualy bankrupt who as you very well said derive knowledge but without getting into the real facts.

As for the bookstore opening up in Kuwait – please make a serious effort of providing good quality reads. You’d be surprised at the scores of book lovers thronging your store.

  8. Q8Zone says:

    Sounds exciting !!
Well, the most important is not with the space & capacity but with how different will it seriousley be ..
I really wish it be something \/\/o\/\/ !

  9. Babbleq8 says:

How many will get banned before they reach the cells…

there goes anything with the words breasts, sex, well, you get my drift……..

there won’t be anything worth reading except, sports books, technology…etc.

  10. nahin123 says:

    @ Babbleq8
Go to Virgin’s, there is a Book called “FOOL”..the book clearly mentions in it’s very first page that it’s bawdy !! It’s not banned and maybe still on the shelf :)

  11. Spartan says:

so a good read HAS to have “breasts” and “sex”?? someone shouldve told shakespeare that!

  12. Khalid says:

Will wait 4 it, hope it will be good enough

  13. Anonymous says:

A good book has to be about the Spartans. I don’t choose what you should read and neither should you.

  14. zaydoun says:

I just hope it will sell serious and new fiction and non-fiction in Arabic and English, alongside the pre-requisite Cookbooks, Self-Help manuals and [Whatever]for Dummies

  15. Spartan says:

i didnt say what a good book should contain..i was merely expressing my disapproval of the notion that “breasts” and “sex” are the ingredients of a “good book” and that if a book doesnt have sexual content it wont be “worth reading”..im sorry i dont even think that hugh hefner would make such preposterous claim

  16. hilaliya says:

If Ministry of Information keep their hands off this one and allow current best sellers and books to enter a la BORDERS, BARNES AND NOBLE or KINOKONUYA – all available in *Gulf* countries then this might work.

Although frankly I detect a glorified JAREER-like store with a couple of biographies, cooking books, travelogues and religious books.

  17. Mubarak says:

So help me good this better not be tease or I’ll fall apart…since there’s no one to punch.

  18. Summer says:

    I can’t believe this! finally a bookstore!
I hope they bring borders or Kinokunya to Kuwait!!

  19. Lizq8 says:

I think virgin had a problem because of censorship not so much piracy. Everything is “haram” and virgin had to continually move books off their shelves!

  20. Paul says:

Hope they’ve got Starbucks in it..java and literature..ah..the good times..

  21. D'fine says:

RAVO.. there is hope for KUwait after all…. moving forward to the 21st centery… =)

  22. me says:

go ahead , spend your money on a place that has to make up 300% to pay overhead
virgin routinely had 7kd for a 7usd book
(the rent in a major mall is high, high , high)
in the usa, barnes and nobles’ mark up is only 10% and boarders has gone out of business
    in kuwait, go to
http://www.q8books.com or betterbookskuwait@hotmail.com – used books is the only feasible model that’ll work

  23. TanGo says:

me / you are not serious…!

  24. t7l6m says:

hope it will work good.Malls in Kuwait lack bookstores, having one may encourage reading as a habbit. It’s time for people to feed thier minds, not only thier bellies.

  25. Asmaa says:

Okay, so what about the PRICES?

Are they going to charge higher than the other bookstores that we already have around..? If not, then tough luck surviving.. ~_~

  26. Desert Girl says:

    WHY? Does anyone here read?

  27. Asma says:

@Desert Girl : reading is awesome fun!!!
does this bookstore have english books too or only arabic books :/
muthanna’s bookstore is pretty good but the prices are umm…

  28. joelle says:

is this the one oposite the food court……less people are ther..its at the side?

  29. joelle says:

i know many bookstores which you can return the books that you bought from the shop but they dont give all your monay back they gve 75 percent back of your money if u return the book in 3 or les days and they return 50 percent of your payment fot that book if you return it after 3 days.you dont always have to return your book you can keep it. -book store in maliya/kuwait city

  30. ahmad says:
