Donuts – Kuwaiti Style

Guys closing highways to make donuts, it never gets boring to watch. I love the army of white pickups (wanayts) parked on the side. [YouTube]

When I first read it I thought they were blocking the highways to make donuts..like the food. Sorta reminded me of the Shawerma guys who block the traffic circle in front of Sheraton in Kuwait City

and the police are no where to be found!

I love it how you cannot find a police officer in Kuwait when you need it. There is used to be someone who does that in the school parking lot next to our home in Kuwait. I called 777 and told them about it. They asked me to catch him and wait for them to police to arrive!!! I asked him if he also wants me to take him to the police station and take his statement and then answer 777 calls for him. He understood what I meant and said that they will send a police car, which never showed up.

  18. Mathai says:

    Only in Kuwait…

    3AGAD!

  20. Dj Hams says:

Toni…”Seeda” is straight ahead or forward in Hindi as well. India had a lot of influence on Kuwait before oil was discovered.

And the Vanyt story was covered by Mark on this blog, a couple of years back.

You think that blocking a highway for five full minutes is clever and funny? What if there were ambulances or firetrucks stuck in that traffic – they wouldn’t have even been able to overtake the mess by using the shoulder because of all the moronic spectators blocking those as well. Have you ever been in the situation where you had to rush a loved one to the hospital and every minute was a matter of life or death? You should all be condemning these idiots and their actions rather than celebrating them. Because one day, that’s going to be your mother or father or brother or sister that needs to get to the hospital and can’t because some self-obsessed freak is using the highway as his personal playground.

Meanwhile, “toni”, in response to your statement: “Back in the day when Kuwait was a dustbowl run by the British” – get your historical facts straight. Kuwait was never “run by the British” – it was a protectorate of the British Empire but was internally and politically autonomous and independent. Furthermore, pre-oil Kuwait town was a thriving urban center since the early 18th century and to reduce it to a phrase like “dustbowl” is ignorant and offensive.

  22. call me silly but says:

i couldn’t help but notice your heading on toot. the whole doughnut making and highways caught my attention. but then i realized you meant ‘doing doughnuts…as doughnuts in kuwait are probably made by south asian men toiling in the back of a shop at 3:00 am…never the less great piece and sorry for the tangent!

LOL @ 14.Dj Hams “…thought they were making donuts (food) on the road” and 20.BoBader’s sarcasm.

  31. aisha says:

Once something similar happened and i was brave enough to call the police (something i will never do again) instead of showing up in the spot they kept calling in the next 4 hours and were investigating with me about the event :S as if i was the one causing all this mess!!

  32. [...] On the bright side its great seeing those guys drifting on the track instead of blocking the highway and making donuts in the middle of traffic…  Print  Email Mar 26, [...]
