That article is currently on CNN’s main page under “Editors Choice”. The ranking is based on the ‘Attitude of population toward foreign visitors’ category in the latest report by the World Economic Forum. Not good. [Link]

  1. Kuwait says:

Even Iran is better than us.

And the whole world hates them.

    Interesting.

  2. neema says:

It doesnt surprise me at all that Kuwait made it to the top 10 of the list

  3. ~LE~ says:

We weer talking about this a while ago with my friends from other GCC countries. Some of them were very upset when random guys at the mall made rude remarks about them, like one guy told my friend “go get your eyebrows waxed.” She was so upset and had every right to be, I was ashamed and I told her not to take it personally as Kuwaitis do this ALL THE TIME to everyone.

Kuwaitis are rude and mean to other Kuwaitis, you can’t leave the house without hearing a random comment about the way you look or what you’re wearing from a random stranger!

It’s really embarrassing, I wish everyone would mind their own business.

I know there are other Kuwaitis like me who feel the same way, I really don’t know when our society as a whole is going to mature in mentality.

    • Hussain says:

Appreciating that at least you agree what the fact is,
on this year national day me and my family was enjoying Kuwait national day some guys came to us started shouting on us that why you people entered in Kuwait why you people are come here to enjoy ,
we were also celebrating Kuwait national day only not any other crime.
      hope for best

      • ~LE~ says:

I apologize for their uncivilized behavior. I personally feel so happy when I see our brothers and sisters from neighbouring countries.

I hope you enjoyed your time in Kuwait, and ignore those silly people.

    • Brock says:

I hear you! Kuwaitis not only rude towards their own but towards other nationalities as well. With such attitude and mentality, even other nationalities follow through and are rude towards each other. Its absurd.

  4. Buzz says:

Two thirds of the population of Kuwait are foreigners. Kuwaitis are a minority in their own country which is unheard of. Maybe they feel crowded by foreigners, hence the unfriendliness.

    • helllpppp says:

Every fault in here is pointed to expat.
good going. blame expats and sleep well

    • Rehab says:

@buzz STFU! You are setting live example of how rude people are and nice at diverting blames towards eachother…

    • D. says:

Maybe if they were willing to actually work hard they wouldn’t keep hiring cheap foreign labor to do it for them…

      • Buzz says:

Almost all foreign labor are here because they have no alternative. None. So Kuwait is basically a magnet for desperate people from all over the world.

      • Buzz says:

I don’t particularly enjoy living around desperate people, neither should you. It’s not safe in the long run.

        • Mandy says:

desperate people?!…if u dint have the luxury n money that you do in kuwait i would like to see which country you would run to ..jus to make some. its not called desperation. its just a physiological need to want more/better in life . Jus like ull have the need to travel to the west for further education…n come back more smarter. is that outta desperation too?!!?!

        • Hazmat says:

You are just displaying how arrogant you are , giving further support to the research conducted.

I agree with Rehab , your a live example.

          • Buzz says:

I’m just stating the facts. If you could afford to live legally in the US would you still be here?

            • Hazmat says:

That might have something to do with the fact of being a muslim, and how muslims are looked upon in the states.

Have you ever considered that ?

              • Walid says:

@Hazmat I am a Muslim who has lived all my life in the states. Not sure where your getting at. No matter where you go, you will always find good and bad. Secondly Kuwait is a great place to be, at times. Its the people. Don’t blame expats, cause I am an expat and its not all of us. Some of us, definetly. At the end of the day treat others like the way you want to be treated.

  5. chess says:

I find the research gone into this article suspect. I call BS on this one.

    • desert sky says:

      You’re joking,right?

    • Ataripixel says:

I have to totally agree with you on this. Yesterday marked my 1 year living in Kuwait. When I first got here I felt very welcomed. Every one was pleasant and courteous and the customer service was far superior than what I get back in the states.

I don’t think they’re factoring in the cultural differences between people in Kuwait vs. people in other countries. For example, the Arabic language can sound rather harsh to English speakers and this “harshness” sometimes transfers over when the locals speak English, even though they don’t mean any harm when they speak. It took me a while to realize this. Also, other than the malls and a few small venues here and there, there really isn’t much to do here, so why would anyone want to be a tourist here? Maybe that lowers Kuwait on their scale?

      Great Keep This Up!!!

Soon you will be number 1 country on the list!!!

      hahahahhahahaaa

      LAMO!!!

    • ann-marie says:

LOL,at first after reading I scrolled down to check if anyone posted a comment in a style: “If you don’t like Q8 just fu*k off and go back to your country!”

I’ve never heard of a discussion on labor law, kuwaiti attitude to expats or even human rights in Q8 that one Kuwaiti don’t say something like I mention above!Keep up good work!!!

  7. bask says:

Well we don’t need CNN to tell us that. Standing at the immigration line u will notice the bias treatment, which is where the story begins and continues..if u are blue eye, blonde, khaleeji or from certain Arab nations then u are normally greeted & treated. Kuwait might rank highest but to be fair, its a general Arab thing and varies from country to country. We racial profile in everything & we lack cultural understanding and respect. Anyhow, tourism in Kuwait didn’t stop at that and i don’t think it was ever planned to have Kuwait on the touristic map.

  8. lolguy says:

Towards whom should the customary GTFO be directed to in this case?

  9. Fajer says:

hey mark. go to google and type “kuwaities are” then wait for it.

    • G says:

Well if you type any other nationality it will be similar :)

    • Kingfisher says:

      Ouch!!! :-)

    • sarah says:

That’s hysterical! Rude, racist, and idiots. Agree with bask though, it begins at immigration and the ‘angy birds’ (ie the eyebrows)are so rude to foreigners that you wonder how you are going to be treated after you get in the country – SAME.I disagree with Buzz, most of the foreigners are blue collar and are here to serve them, they aren’t overwhelmed by that at all.

  10. Ex-Expat says:

    This ranking is unfair.

My 3 years in Kuwait as an expat was an experience full of good and bad. It’s easy too generalize a whole nation on the basis of 1-2 bad experiences. I had my share too but I also met some amazing Kuwaitis who don’t get the headlines.

I observed that the Kuwaiti roads have a high share of bad drivers (from all nations).

    • desert sky says:

So the survey should be based on your personal experience in Kuwait?

      • Ex-Expat says:

Nope, I’m just expressing a personal opinion.

        • jelly says:

I’m guessing you are a western expat. dont be surprised if your ass was kissed. There are far more of us asian expats in Kuwait. half a million indians if im not mistaken! Your experience doesnt count for much in the grand scheme of things!

        • Hazmat says:

Your experience counts for Jack didly old Buckeroo

          • Ex-Expat says:

I see that the Kuwaiti attitude is still contagious :)

            • Hazmat says:

Your as blind as blind can get, I have been living here for the past 19 years. Don’t walk in all casual and preach as you know it all.

Myself, most of the members and Mark have been living here for much longer time, hence the animosity.

              • Ex-Expat says:

                Who’s preaching?

Ok I rectract my statement. Kuwait is full of unfriendly people like you, happy?

                • G says:

Did it ever occur to you Mr Hamzat that its that very attitude that makes Kuwait ‘an unfriendly place’. Pay it forward, be nice to people, they will be nice to other people and yourself included. Although there are some people who don’t deserve to be treated nicely so you just go on about your business and ignore them. As cheesy as it may sound, two wrongs don’t make a right. Thank you Ex-Expat for your positive attitude :)

                • Hazmat says:

State it as it is, don’t support nor demote , Kuwaitis themselves are not so unfriendly, but the kind of atmosphere on display is alarming to say the very least.

                • Hazmat says:

                  G,
Had it occurred to you , That I am nice ?
Did I say I was ever bad?
Do you still think I show any hatred, you don’t know how I am or how much I care, Don’t judge ….all I am saying is see it as it is don’t overstate or understate.

              • G says:

Where in my post did I call you mean or bad, stay positive bro that’s just my point. :)

              • aaa says:

If you live in a place for 19 years and hate if maybe you shouldn’t live there

                • Hazmat says:

I never said I hated Kuwait as a Country .. So many things can be easily corrected, Like the airport and many many other things

  11. dm says:

Proud to be A Kuwaiti and have Kuwait mentioned in every list there is.

We finally can beat Russia in something

    Keep it up guys

Where is the list for countries with the highest liquor prices ?

  13. Ahmed says:

I am not surprised by this list, 100% true. Kuwaitis and Slovaks have basically the same rude, unfriendly manner and don’t forget the french too.

  14. JH says:

Iran is friendlier than we are… Power to the Persian People haha

  15. The Netherlands should have made the top 10 list. Loved living there but not the friendliest country. My Dutch mates agree with me.

I find Kuwaitis to be friendly and helpful most of the time.

    • Marcel says:

So why did you love living in the Netherlands? The weather? The nature? The churches?
Or was it just the alcohol and hashish?

Anyway, please spread the word. And ask your ‘Dutch’ mates to do the same (for your credibility).

      • Tnoy says:

Maybe because your a blond with blue eyes… try being an Indian… racial profiling

        • Marcel says:

May be because I’m born Dutch, blue eyes, grey hair, married with a dark wife and father of dark (adult) kids and 2 beautiful grandchildren. So about the racial profiling…I doubt that.

I have to admit that since an overwhelming number of non-western immigrants/refugees have occupied the country, the friendly atmosphere has gone down at the same speed as their excodus from their home-country.
          Some numbers?

Rotterdam 2010: Total number of citizens: 600.000. Among them 345.000 immigrants (now Dutch citizens with dual nationality) of non-western-, mainly muslim-countries. Above that another 130.000 immigrants from western countries, Suriname and the Antilles.

These people have the same rights as the origin Dutch, but are over-represented in crime rates and fraud cases with social benefits.
Only 30% of the ‘new-Dutch’ can take of themselves and their family. The other 70% depends fully on grants.

These numbers are equal to most major cities in Holland, only a few small villages are not affected by the Tsunami of refugees/immigrants which came to holland over the last 20 years.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. We’ve got over 450 mosques in Holland.
Note: I’m a kafir, but I respect the freedom of religion. Just wish religions could do the same.

Not really a friendly country Holland, though? You’re right, we’re just plain stupid.

I’m sick of being tolerant towards in-tolerant people!

          • IceAge says:

            Marcel,
I have no doubt that immigrants from Muslim countries to Europe have a dubious reputation that is at least partially their own fault.
But I wonder how Indians are viewed there. I would appreciate a candid answer. More importantly, are different groups of immigrants viewed differently or does one have to pay for the sins of another?

          • aaa says:

Do you see now why Kuwait is hesitant to give immigrants the nationality?

            • Marcel says:

Of course I understand the hesitation.
It’s also not that I’m blind for the negative side-effects of the exodus of Muslims from their homelands to our country and then almost instantly reward them with the Dutch nationality. Many of them didn’t come to work, but simply for a better life and free money, while at the same time they don’t want to integrate and show little- to no respect for the Dutch values and laws (e.g. freedom of speech and religion).
Basically they despise our culture. Not our grants of course. Paid for by the Dutch-taxpayers.
I have my doubts about the sustainability of this politics on the long run.

But it’s not fair to compare this group with the people who came to Kuwait to work. Those deserve respect, a fair share of the profit of the country, legal protection and shouldn’t be discriminated or be stripped of their Human Rights at any arbitrary moment. This is a direct violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Freedom, Justice and Respect to all people (including dissenters) are more important than being named the most friendliest country in the world.
              Imho.

      • @ Marcel ~ As a university student in Utrecht I loved riding my bike everywhere, floating down the canal, hanging out in cafes with my Dutch and International friends, Mario’s Italian Calzones on the Oude Gracht, etc. Every time he would see me walk near he would yell, Bella Bella Miss America and give me one refusing to take any money. My list goes on and on why I loved living there. Most locals thought I was Dutch until I opened my mouth to speak basic Dutch with a Southern accent. :)

        • Marcel says:

I’m happy for you that you’re enjoying you study-time in Utrecht. Maybe that’s why I didn’t understood your negative view on the Dutch people. Though I’m the first to admit that in The Netherlands there’re also not-so-friendly citizens among the people. Holland is far from perfect, like most of the countries.

What I find interesting is that you speak Dutch, maybe with a Southern accent (South-Africa?), but never the less a real accomplishment! I’m glad we solved our misunderstanding and I wish you a successful study in Utrecht. Whenever you’re in Rotterdam, I hope I can show you the interesting places of the city. Maybe you can tell me then where you’ve learned to speak Dutch. Don’t get me wrong, but I’m a bit jealous. So far I haven’t learned to pronounce one single Arabic word properly…

Any other volunteers? In return I’ll learn you to speak Dutch.

          Have a nice weekend!

          • Marcel says:

Sorry for not being adequate. In your comment it’s obvious that you already finished your study.
Nevertheless I hope to meet you in Holland once!

          • Brock says:

Im in! Teach me Dutch! I enjoyed living in Utrecht and Amsterdam, the Dutch were extremely friendly :)

    • abdou says:

maybe because you’re white and think the whole world is friendly. in other words, sadly, people kiss your ass because you’re white and for no other reason.

  16. Arif says:

    I knew it all along.
16 years of experience staying there.

    why am i not surprised

  18. aaa says:

Did anyone actually click the link? It’s mostly tourism related…

  19. aaa says:

FFS it says GERMANY is the most friendly country in the world hahahahah

  20. blaaa says:

i m surprised it was not number 1 hahaha!! …. it shows a lack of respect and culture :) … the older generations were a better lot as they had faced hardships.and know wat REAL life is ..

  21. Faris Al-Amer says:

I’m not surprised at all. As a Kuwaiti, I’m ashamed that a Muslim Arab country like Kuwait is on this list. I have a number of non-Kuwaiti friends, mostly from other Arab counties, and they tell me how they have been mistreated by Kuwaitis in many aspects during their lives. Some of the acts in these stories are just plain disgusting! This is exactly why Kuwait is not developing as a civilized country, because the people living in Kuwait haven’t developed MENTALLY. I’m deeply ashamed to admit this, but we as Kuwaitis need to grow up mentally or we’ll never achieve our goals in the future.

    • jelly says:

just reading what you’ve written, and others on this board, gives me hope that one day i won’t be treated like utter shit by your people.

Third generation Indian in Kuwait, my grandfather had so many Kuwaiti friends. Today I have one i’d consider closer than an acquaintance. He told me that when he was a kid and spoke rudely to the made, his grandfather gave him a beating.

THAT’S a kuwaiti who has come to undertand equality of value.

      • abdou says:

Kuwaitis are rich people. In most countries, rich people form an exclusive group and hang out only with other rich people. Ive seen it in many countries. Rich people enjoy their own company simply because we cannot afford to have the same tastes.

      • Coolsprint says:

  23. Nixon says:

‘Attitude of population toward foreign visitors’
    ah, now it makes sense.

  24. Stranger says:

Doesn’t matter how rich or developed the country is. It all comes down to how you treat those less fortunate than you. Here Kuwait treat expats like condoms. Use and throw. Despicable!

  25. Talal says:

Excuse me but i find this list not fair. I visited Turkey (Istanbul) and the turkish people are WAY more unfriendly and rude towards foreigners !!!!!

  26. hello says:

If you drive a fancy car, wear fancy clothes and hands claded with diamonds and a rolex, every one in the world will be friendly towards you… not just kuwaitis.
    IN the end its MONEY

  27. Rehab says:

Want to test yourself how unfriendly they are ?
1)Try to sit next to a Kuwaiti girl because there is NO OTHER PLACE, they will start her making annoying face

    2) Go to a party where mostly are Kuwaitis, and your Indian. They will start racist comments and laugh among themselves

    3) You say them you Indian or Bangladeshi, they will reply “Hindi” “Bengali” with worst way you would ever like to hear !

I aint saying all, but most of them…

    • Coolsprint says:

      Very very very true.

    • Buzz says:

“Try to sit next to a Kuwaiti girl because there is NO OTHER PLACE, they will start her making annoying face.”

There is no other place because there’s 2/3 of you vs. 1/3 of her. You outnumber her by a large measure. She feels crowded in her own country. You would feel the same way if it was yours.

      • Nicolas says:

Hey! It’s not expats fault if she feels crowded in her own country.

Does she enjoy Starbucks for example? Will she work in Starbucks if all expats leaves Kuwait?

Can she imagine one day in Kuwait without expats? Can she live without poor made who works 24/7 for 50 KD per month?

        • Buzz says:

The issue is not the presence of foreigners, it is their numbers. No country in the world, not the US, not Germany, Japan, or Canada would allow foreigners to outnumber citizens two to one. This is a demographic disaster and a national security threat of the highest magnitude.

          • Mandy says:

Well its only for a period. ur govt. has gladly taken care of that. being born n brought up in kuwait and literally thinking of it at home as we’ve lived there all our life…it sux tht we cant get citizenship.n still most of kuwait will jump at the chance of being a U.S citizen and try for a green card. how hypocritical is tht?? n threat to national secuirty….seriously u guys do more harm to each other on the streets itself .. not to forget the crime rate against expats has increased considerably in the past one yr!!

          • K says:

In developed countries those foreigners will eventually become citizens if they are immigrants, this is the major difference and a caveat in your argument.

Even if they were not immigrating, most nations it is difficult to distinguish between a citizen and a foreigner. Why? Because they take steps to make people feel welcome.

In fact, as a Canadian in Canada I never wonder what nationality the person beside me holds. It’s irrelevant and in no way would whatever creed, color or sexual orientation effect me or intimidate me.

            • Buzz says:

There is no immigration in Kuwait. Foreigners here are guest workers regardless of how long they lived here or even if they were born here. Immigration is allowed in countries were people pay taxes to the state. Tax paying immigrants provide a significant revenue stream. That is why they are welcome in countries like Canada. In Kuwait the state gets minuscule income from guests who impose significant demands on it’s infrastructure and services for nominal fees while transferring a good chunk of their income to their country of origin. Two thirds of the population fall into this category. There is a serious imbalance here.

      • Rehab says:

hahahah! Man with sponsorship system some Kuwaiti earns thousands ! They keep on calling expats so that you all can drive Lamborghini ;) !

More than us, they will scared! Why not abolish that ?

      • D. says:

And exactly why would she feel crowded out? Kuwaitis want to hire foreigners to do all the work but want them to be invisible as well. That’s not how it works. Kuwaitis who feel threatened by the large number of expats just make me think they’re worried that one day they’ll be on the receiving end of the abusive treatment they’re used to doling out.

        • Buzz says:

You as a foreigner suffer from your outlandish numbers more than anyone else. Never mind the traffic jams, are you happy with the rent you pay for your apartment? Is it worth it? Do you save anything by the end of the month? Your job doesn’t offer you a pension. What are going to live on when you retire at 67?

      • D. says:

And no, Buzz, just because you’re racist doesn’t mean we all are. Don’t treat people like crap and you’ll have nothing to worry about should they outnumber you. Kuwaitis may make up 1/3 but they still have all the power.

    • A Kuwaiti will get the exact same reaction towards sitting next to a girl.

  28. Nathan says:

Hey Iranians are very friendly people.

  29. buttoye says:

Guys you have it allllllll wronggg…
IT IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND…

    and thus the UNFRIENDLINESS…
Deep down inside they are very friendly and down to earth…

  30. Malik says:

    Soon things gonna change (positive)!
we all have to work on it, “LETSTALK-Kuwait” Very soon inshaAllah.

  31. Mohammad says:

If you will notice the definition of friendliest is only partially defined by the local impression of tourism, There are many factors including infrastructure, security, services etc. Very friendly locals can still have an unfriendly rating because of the other factors.

  32. lulu says:

    SO true!

  33. radiantguy says:

  34. the accidental tourist says:

This is Western propaganda coming from white trash, nothing else. If UK does not feature in the top 5 then this whole shebang is hum bug. Also if Saudi Arabia doesn’t make the cut in the top 3 you have serious problems with the way the whole assessment’s been carried out.

    • Marcel says:

Western propaganda coming from white trash of course :)
I totally agree with you on the UK too, oh wait…

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Iz64V-zHM

      You wouldn’t expect it…

      • K says:

        Not all Arabs are Muslims.
These protesters are Pakistani/Afghani NOT Arabs. Just because they enchant “La Elaha Ella Allah” which is Arabic for “There’s no God but Allah.” Doesn’t mean they’re Arabs, They learned that from the Quran.

As for the UK, the 2nd most spoken language is Polish according to a friend of mine who lives in London. He even complains about Polish who are jobless and rude. (I’m not saying all polish people are like that)

Such a list like that is nothing, It’s not a fact. You will get discriminated from a certain race or religion depending on who you are. e.g. Being Korean and visiting Japan or being Indian and visiting Pakistan or being black and visiting the south in North America. Racism and discrimination is found everywhere and everyone is targeted. It’s not limited to these countries listed above and it doesn’t happen more in certain countries.

  35. I doubt that list will stop people from coming here for the money. With all the ill treatment and bad things happening I don’t see a long line of people trying to exit the country for greener pastures so why is everyone complaining? It is what it is.

    • peter says:

sure it will not stop them frm coming for the money which they get frm doing a job that Kuwait state citizens unable to do it ;) and yjd money isn’t a gift it’s there salaries !!

  38. Basel says:

how did we beat Iraq and Saudi Arabia in that?

  39. ahmad says:

I was born and raised in kuwait. I went to ask . Honestly ive been treated really bad here. Kuwaitis are really harsh. Racial profiling, discrimination and rude. If you go to the police station first thing they ask is about nationality. If you get into a fight with a kuwaiti thats itko.

  40. From Minneasota Nice to New York Nude,err....Rude says:

Such listings smack of a palpable dumbing down of standards at CNN. What with the mass exodus of real talent from CNN to Al Jazeera is anyone’s guess!
And how come Lebanon doesn’t feature on there?!

  41. Matt says:

I have been here awhile and I think Kuwait is friendlier than the list suggests. I have observed that Arabs generally have a high degree of reciprocity. If you initiate a friendly and competent exchange, you almost always get it back.
I fully realize that others may have experiences other than mine.

  42. Ali K says:

I’d Agree with the report but I find it strange that the UK never made it to that list! Having lived there for 6 years, I know it should have.

But aren’t we mixing Friendliness with Racism ? There’s probably a need to identify which is which.

I personally think that ANY country who becomes in the same situation as Kuwait will become the same.

Heavy Expats Traffic, Influx of immigrants who obtain nationality based on politics (from the worst places of the world who’s also very near)spreading the `desert` like attitude amongst the once basic/friendly people, decline in resources and job opportunity.. even Locals are now being discriminated against by means of religion/race.etc

I need to stress that `Racism` is an instinct built into every Human (and animal), being a part of a group… intruders are often un-welcomed and expelled unless they are needed. Being Civil reforms that nature (as well as other natures such as crimes in any form)… We are in a world now where people stopped believing in superficial illusions and on the brinks of breaking the whole “Being Civil” apart. To Survive. I try to be positive but the worst is yet to come.

  43. moe80s says:

I Read most of the comments in that post and I believe that Kuwait new generation have alot of potential active people in terms of education and the “savoir vivre”. I know alot of 24-30 years old kuwaitis that are respectful and friendly! the bad attitude mostly come from Jahra Young Generation. all in all I like living in Kuwait even though sometimes I find it racist when it comes to Zain, Viva or Wataniya winners of any sort (they are always kuwaitis especially Viva & Fasttelco, we all know about infoconnect story) or even in the banks when there is Jawhara or Al Dana grand prizes they are always kuwaitis as well! Racism by corporate is what encourage people to become racist! As for the comments about Buzz being racist it’s not true! his comment was reasonable guys who want to be outnumbered in his own country?!

    • K says:

The bad attitude comes from everywhere.
As for contests winners, they’re mostly expats not Kuwaitis.

      • moe80s says:

Seriously?! Go check the Facebook fan pages of all the corporate and check how corporate attitude is encouraging racism!

    • S. AlOmar says:

Err… Last time i checked, expats always take the grand prizes…

    • Maz says:

I beleive it has nothing to do with where they grow up. I have seen Educated kids, part of Kuwait City families (as opposed to Jahra) that are still unfriendly/rude to people. I also see kids from Jahra who have hearts of gold. (You’re actually being racist mentioning that)

Actually I rarely see kids (12-18) who treat expats with respect (unless they’re from the US or Europe). This is a disgrace, especially that expats work in pretty much everything in Kuwait.

In my opinion, its all bad parenting. Many parents are ignorant, and racist. Can you blame the kids for growing up like their parents?

Throughout the years I’ve been living here, I’ve seen parents do some very disturbing things infront of their child. And those very parents are the ones who think they’re child is the best citizen in the country, when in reality, their children are the ones causing havoc on the streets, and disrespecting the law, and people around them. It’s a downward spiral, and sometimes I am ashamed to be Kuwaiti (before I remember that I don’t have to compare myself with these animals because sooner or later, they will be put on the right track.)

And A reply to Buzz: You are scared from the people who you’re overwhelmed by in your country, but you’re not scared by the direction where Kuwaitis are headed? Atleast expats do the job, and do not complain about it :)

  47. madman says:

Nice! We’re one of the top 10 in something! Kidding, its a shame.

  48. Fatima says:

Well…at least they are on top of “some” list.
I dont think they r ashamed of it…rather they must be feeling proud…

    • bask says:

i think, they simply don’t care. The heaviest air traffic outbound from Kuwait by locals on weekends is the highest in the middle east, if not the world, not to mention any day off throughout the year..they simply stopped caring. im not mocking them, its not the people that are unfriendly..to state facts only: amongst other GCC nations they are amongst the highest in per capita income in the world, highest level of education by locals abroad, the most frequent in travel and exposure to different cultures, highly entrepreneurship attitude, politically and culturally the most diverse, the strongest local media in the GCC, strong constitutional & parliamentary system etc etc etc…..seriously, put our biases aside, Kuwait stands for a lot more comparing to the rest in the GCC. so what differs to make them score the lowest on many fronts. whatever it is, for now, they simply don’t care anymore.

  49. Noor says:

    Shame…
But having a lot of people and me feeling that way about this research, Kuwait still has hope. en sha2 Allah.

  50. Security Adviser says:

This list is just a waste of time . Like nothing to do reading fodder. Most Kuwaitis couldn’t care less if they were number 4 or number 304 on the list. You could flash it all over the worlds different news media and they still couldn’t care less. Because in the end the world will still come to Kuwait and not the other way around. We need Kuwait they dont need us!!! Everyone of us with the the tag expatriate is expendable and replaceable. And they know it. You remove one us and 10 of our own kind will line up to replace us for possibly half of what we are getting paid right now. It doesn’t matter what the expatriate community in Kuwait or for that that matter what the Kuwaiti nationals themselves may think. In the end the real power players/brokers; the people who run the governments of the top economic western nations, the upcoming Asian & South East Asian developing and developing Arab nations whose citizens make over 85% of this country’s population will still come crawling and grovelling to Kuwait’s feet for a hand out. And if the price for that handout means that their citizens on the lower end of the bean pole end up being treated like shit so be it. It aint happening to them so it aint their problem. The government of Kuwait knows this and takes full advantage of it completely.
So yeah most Kuwaiti’s couldn’t care less for a silly list put out by pro America CNN. Their philosophy is simple. we are getting paid by the government to do what we like even if we dont slog or work for for it and very soon if the law passes we are gonna get a pay raise from minimum 250 or 300 KD to a whopping 1500 KD so who give a F*** of what the little brown man may think or what the little brown man on CNN in his fancy suit may say.. ;-)

    • aaa says:

      Fun Fact:

Foreign Governments themselves can actually prevent people from going over to Kuwait unless they get a certain minimum wage but they choose not to, or at least choose not to give them a decent wage.

Basically each government can effectively set a minimum wage in Kuwait for its people and they choose to leave it very low.

      • me says:

        Fun Fact:

Some foreign governments are democratic, so they leave to their citizens to decide what wage they think they should get.

      • gijo paul george says:

You are right.. basically its the countries who treat their own citizens like thrash. You think Kuwaities mistreat Indians or other similar nationalities? Go to the Indian embassy (im indian so i dont know about other embassies).. see how they treat their own citizens.. and how their eyes light up when they see caucasians.. or kuwaities for that matter. Why should Kuwait care if the expat’s own country dont give a dime?

That being said, I wish kuwaities understood that tourism is good for their country. It would mean better infrastructure, better policing, better quality of life all around.. And the money expats (the ones who can afford) will spend elsewhere, will be spend here, and better for the economy. Ive been in Kuwait for not a very long time.. but i see how beautiful it can be! It just takes some initiative (from everybody) to transform the whole experience of living in Kuwait.

        • pureorama says:

Agree, there is a huge untapped market that Kuwaiti marketers are yet to tap into or just take for granted. There is an affluent expat community (non Arab too) here that has the money to spend on products and services relevant to them but have no place or opportunity to do so since very little is targeted at them. Most of us are broad brushed as low end labor class with no potential or worse, no spending power. I do wish some Kuwaiti entrepreneur will see this potential and tap into it sooner than later.

  51. Bu Hussain says:

I am Kuwaiti and I often get discriminated against and laughed at because I’m not “rich” and because I drive an old car. I have also heard a lot of rude comments from random Kuwaitis in malls and restaurants about the way I look. Seriously, Kuwait offers an easy way of living but Kuwaitis are becoming increasingly rude and superficial, even to Kuwaitis like me. If you choose a simpler lifestyle then to them: you’re poor, you’re dumb, and eventually you’re mistreated. So I wouldn’t be surprised to read all those horror stories about expats being treated like crap by Kuwaitis, especially the younger generation.

  52. pureorama says:

..I think this is all getting taken out of context.. ..have to admit we do perhaps have the 4th worst breakfast show on FM in the world.

  53. Ali Sleeq says:

And then we blame the Swiss and other Europeans for being too racist to foreigners.

  54. K A says:

As a Kuwaiti man, I do not think that all Kuwaitis are rude, arrogant, ill-mannered or have a serious aversion to work. It is (practically) almost always a mistake to generalise. I do however accept that many younger Kuwaitis (i.e. teens/twenties) are some or indeed all of the above. I think that if existing laws were applied or “wasta” was curtailed, one would find that a lot of people would “behave” better. Humans in societies anywhere (not just in Kuwait) need rules, law and order to function properly, not the free-for-all that Kuwait is unfortunately descending into.

I could go on, but work awaits (take note D. – many Kuwaitis do work hard)

Finally, Mandy, not everyone in Kuwait would “jump at the chance of a green card”

  55. d'fine says:

It all differs to the lot of spoiled brats brought up by nannies who are not allowed to teach manners. Parents are absent and the children are left to raise themselves.

You see it in the mall, in the car, at work. At the same time Arabs are polite more then many I know in EU. Why Kuwait has such a bad reputation is because you are thought at an early age that other nationalities are there to serve you hands and feet, so when you travel you believe you have the same rights. Well think again.

I meet a Omani taxi driver last year, he told me a story beyond rude, luckily for him he told the Kuwaiti to go to HEll and back.. I don’t blame him. Omani are the humbles arabs I have ever meet.

I would like to see a change, I hope for the love of Kuwait someone steps up to the plate.

  56. Kasia says:

Because men here are taught from their earliest years that whatever they do is right, whatever they say is right, the mistakes they made are right and no consequences whatsover for their actions, bacause they are always right…maybe you will finally grow some balls mummy boys!

  57. instantcravings says:

just curious – is this getting a similar coverage/debate within the local Arabic press?

  59. zaydoun says:

The study is heavily biased to the most important and yet most difficult factor: the unreasonably difficult process of getting a visa to visit Kuwait. When a country flat out tells you you’re unwelcome to visit, for no reason other than your own nationality, that is just plain unfriendly and downright rude!

Once you do enter, by some miracle or if you’re born into a favorable nationality, it’s up to you to figure out where to go and who to mix with… Many Kuwaitis are civilized and generous, some are just sheltered and have no exposure to foreigners so they stay away, and some are just assholes.

But then don’t you get this mix of people anywhere you go?

  60. zaydoun says:

And don’t get me started on our disgraceful airport!!

  61. Abdurrahman says:

Afghani who is born in Kuwait here.. :)

Good and bad is everywhere. And Kuwaitis were good people before the Iraqi invasion.

Now, they are still good, but I think it is materialism that causes some people from *ANY* nationality to be bad towards the others, plus being raised by a Khaddama…
