The Healthier Lifestyle: Napket

Just a recap for those of you who don’t know my “Healthier Lifestyle” series of posts. I used to have junk food every single day but then I found out I had acid reflux as a result. I then decided to permanently stop having fried or junk food and since then I’ve dropped around 5KG in weight and most importantly, I feel and am healthier. I don’t miss fried or junk food and have actually found great alternatives instead and this is why I decided to create these healthier lifestyle series of posts so I could share these alternatives with everyone.

In this post I will be talking about Napket which is located on the first floor of Avenues Phase II. They’ve got a pasta and salad station plus a ready made sandwiches section. I haven’t tried their salads or pastas just their sandwiches and my favorite is called “The NY Thing”. The sandwich contains bacon, chicken, turkey, eggs, tomato and lettuce. Since it’s ready made its perfect to have during my lunch break because it doesn’t take time to prepare. The bread used for the sandwich is really delicious. I don’t know what it is exactly but it’s got a slightly sweet flavor to it.

The sandwich isn’t cheap though, at KD3.750 its on the expensive side but the service is great and the location and restaurant atmosphere is amazing so it kinda makes up for it. The sandwich is also filling so you don’t need a side order with it. I highly recommend it.

i guess they stopped due to ur health conditions?

    =/

  3. Mark says:

I ran out of burgers to review. I still eat burgers since they aren’t fried and as long as they’re not from fast food joints.

  4. Sn3a says:

  5. jfbselkn says:

    Bring Napket to DC :(

  6. Zorbon says:

    Hey Mark,
Have you found it was more expensive to eat healthy food?

  7. Mark says:

Yeah, I was actually going to mention that in my next post. I used to spend on average around KD2 for lunch, now I pay around KD4. It’s more expensive to eat out healthy.

  12. latenite says:

ive never seen a soul in that place before i cant believe they didnt shut down yet, plus its a rip offfffff

  13. Mark says:

latenite when I was there over the weekend there were around 5 other tables occupied but no one was sitting inside. When the weather is good people sit on the balcony outside overlooking the fountain, when the weather is hot people site outside the store inside the mall overlooking dean&deluca and pinkberry.

I was just reading the latest Wired UK and found this:

    Expired: Starbucks
    Tired: Itsu
    Wired: Napket

3baid: Some of us have jobs. I work from 9 to 7 with a 1 hour break. I use that break to eat and and many other people are in the same situation.

Obviously, Kuwaitis are not as snobby as they pretend to be. If they were, Napket known for “Snob Food” would be packed daily :-)

My personal opinion, I like the place to a degree. They do offer some healthy options and the atmosphere is one of the nicest in Kuwait. However, I do think that a lot of consumers are put off by the style of service and, possibly, the ready-made concept.

All in all though the place is good and should be busier than it currently is.

  15. Holla says:

That sandwich is a ridiculously priced. Businesses here really have no clue

  16. cajie says:

Mark, I have to agree with 3baid. The healthiest food is the one prepared at home.
I have a much more punishing schedule than yours. Get up at 5.30 am to get the kids ready to school and then work from 7:30am to 5:00 pm.
But ever since I went the health food route – I prepare my own meals for the day. It takes me less than 15 minutes and I have assurance that all the ingredients are fresh. I am sure you know this – but the key to a healthy diet is to not only eat healthy, but to also eat smaller meals more frequently. This keeps your metabolism in optimum condition.
    I take to work
    – 1 peanut butter & jelly sandwich on brown bread (or something similar)
    – 1 fruit
    – 1 turkey sandwich or salad (or something similar).
Spread the meals through out the day (every 2-3 hours) and I never feel hungry.

  17. Mark says:

cajie: I didn’t disagree that healthy food can be prepared at home, what I said was that its not practical for some people who work all day. You finish work at 5, I finish work at 7 on a good day and then I get back home and start my second job which is my blog. I can’t have heavy dinners so my lunch is my main meal of the day. I can’t cook at night and take it with me to work the next day because I don’t have time. By the time i get back home, i only have a few hours to blog, watch tv and have dinner.

So these posts are for people like me who eat out be it over the weekend or every day.

Bacon isn’t healthy. It’s also fried.

  20. Mike says:

Hey Mark, sounds nice; but does it really include BACON ?
    Come on…
You mentioned – ” “The NY Thing”. The sandwich contains bacon, chicken, turkey, eggs, tomato and lettuce.” ^^^^^^^

  21. Mark says:

    Mike: Yes

ok go: a bit of bacon won’t do any harm

  22. sayman says:

Loved the place and the food.

  23. Realist says:

If it wasnt for the self service and lousy plastic containers the place would have been doing way better than it is right now.

BTW mark I heard you hated Pinkberry, is that true ?

  24. Mark says:

Yes they didn’t have cucumbers as a topping! lol

  25. casablanca says:

i never liked any of the food i tried there- a bit bland. ironically, i had napket a few years ago in london and loved it! could it just be london?!

On another note, I’m not an environmentalist, but i just feel sooo bad about all these plastic containers that get used and thrown. Im sure there’s an opportunity for napket to promote recycling…?

  26. Realist says:

casablanca, they are recycling it for sure, but its to other customers. Wash and serve it back :)

  27. nouni says:

    it’s not true sunshine …

  28. Alya says:

For those who were worried about the plastic containers (as I was for a while), Napket now uses regular plates and silverware instead of plastic.

I love Napket, as well as the whole concept, it was sort of classy with a touch of casual appeal. But I don’t think people understood the whole concept. Some complained that they didnt like standing in line to get an order, others didnt want plastic plates. Well, thats the whole concept!

Anyway, I’m just glad the food is as good as it always was. And they have amazing an frozen yoghurt.

  29. Mish says:

i must agree with comment #1, the frozen yogurt is amazing !
i used to order @least 4 throwout the week, i made friends with the staff lol a great service and a fantastic place.
i didn’t try any other thing they got. but i will, since i got a voucher for 10 kd, nothing is pricey with that :p

  30. Haterhaute says:

I haven’t been in a while but I love Napket – My favorite is their mozz ball and cherry tomato salad. I really like the ambiance.. It’s perfect for an evening out with the spouse. And now that it’s cooling down, the patio seating will be awesome overlooking the color fountain.

I’m glad to hear they did away with all the plastic!

  31. lensman says:

Hey Mark, thanks for the post. I’m gonna check out this place soon.

  32. Hammour says:

so you are allowed to take photos at napket now? or is it the same old policy of no photos plz! :P

  33. [...] Philly steak on the other hand was KD3.3 which was not worth it. For 500 more fils I could have had my favorite “NY Thing” sandwich from Napket. But as I mentioned, they had a whole bunch of items I still want to try so I’m going back [...]
