Cigarette consumption in Kuwait

The Economist have an article on smoking and how even with all the warnings on the packets and the increase in knowledge that smoking is bad for you, in some countries smoking is still on the rise. Kuwait happens to be one of those countries. We’re definitely not nearly as bad as Myanmar and Lebanon but still bad enough to warrant a position on their chart above. Why not as bad a Myanmar? Yes, %increase in smoking is very high in Myanmar but still the Cigarette consumption per person is only 282 compared to 1774 in Kuwait.

While the chart is informative it shows the percentage increase. I’d be interested in the total numbers and if the rate of increase has changed over the years.

When chatting to smokers (a bunch who read this will be smokers) ask them how much they pay on a daily basis then calculate the cost on a monthly and yearly basis.

Shamefully they spent more on smoking than taking their kids out to an amusement park.

Smoking is bad smoking is bad.. write it on the packs.. stick posters in hospitals.. organize campaigns…

if it is so bad… why the govt doesnt ban it?

i know smoking is bad… really bad… but isnt it the duty of the govt to ban it just like drugs?

While I hate smoking the answer isn’t to ban it. The government here does that enough and at some point people should have a choice.

Punish people for it (Taxes) and restrict WHERE they can smoke (no smoking in ministries ffs) because it harms other people, but if someone wants to do something in a private area and they’re not hurting anyone let them.

They freaking smoke in hospitals. Yeah hiding in the stairwell is a good idea cuz we can’t freaking smell you.

There are laws, as usual, not being enforced.

Drugs, like caffeine?

You cannot ban everything that can be bad for people, although I will agree it seems to make sense to ban cigarettes because they have no benefits (that I know of, anyway). That said, it’s a bit late for the cigarettes. People are too used to them and will get very very angry if you try to cure their addiction.
Does Kuwait even have those warnings? We don’t have those gross large pictures of diseased lungs and things. Maybe they should try that.

I get the feeling you thought that was clever, except it makes it very clear you haven’t read my post properly. Try again 😉

Why cant theese Kuwaitis stop smoking in public areas, its common in places like ministry tables, even in ministry of health…
