Does anyone remember when the Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show came to Kuwait? It was back in the 80’s and I think it was held at the Mishref Fairs Ground. I just remembered it today for some reason and I can’t find anything on Google about it. If you happen to remember it or have any photos leave a comment below.
Update: A reader found the following quote in an article about Kuwait from the Chicago Tribune back in 1987 which I thought was hilarious..
When an American Wild West show visited recently, cowboys were forced to ride around an arena pointing their fingers in the air and shouting “bang, bang,“ because Kuwaiti authorities would not permit them to bring in their blank-firing six-shooters.

Have no idea, but wasn’t it in the 90s? I remember watching some 3D wild west movie in the old Salmiyah Cinema.
No it was definitely pre-1990 invasion
Yes, 80’s defo. I went. I have very vague memories of it. I remember someone jumping from a high diving board on to a trampoline.
They came to ASK for a small show.
Saw a cigarette whipped out of someone’s mouth.
+1
1985-6 ish
yes it was in the 80’s, maybe’86. They staged a version of the ‘Gunfight at the OK Coral’ and had a wild west set as a background;just like a movise set. As the good Guys and bad Guys set up facing each other for the showdown, they made an announcemet. Something like this, as I recall ” Seeing as the Customs wouldn’t release our guns, please use your imagination. When we say ‘BANG’ and someone falls down, then imagine that a real gun is being fired! Needless to say it ended up being a comedy version.
This was embedded in an article in the Chicago Tribune about Kuwait, which is similar to the event described in my previous post.It perhaps indicates the show was in early ’87:
“When an American Wild West show visited recently, cowboys were forced to ride around an arena pointing their fingers in the air and shouting “bang, bang,“ because Kuwaiti authorities would not permit them to bring in their blank-firing six-shooters.

thanks!!
I was a kid in the front seat. The most vivid memory is of the whip on the pieces of paper and then snapping the cigarette.
It was in 1987. I was studying at Universal American School then. We had a free preview of the show as the group came to our school for half hour or so. What a treat ! I fell in love with the singing cow girl even though she must have been 20 years my senior.:-)
I remember they were saying that they brought a lot of English song cassettes along with them from America(to listen during their stay in Kuwait)but did not realize that Kuwait already had an English radio channel.
That show was in September of 86. I was one of the performers in the show. I was 24 years old at the time from Canada.
oh wow, do you have any pictures by any chance of when you were in Kuwait
Yes I do have some pictures. I am not much good on a computer though so if you send me a cell number I would be happy to text you some.
I’m trying to find out what traveling circuses came to Kuwait before the invasion. It’s my one and only memory of attending a big top circus show but I was only 5 or 6 years old at the time. There were a lot of acrobats, fire breathers, elephants, lions, and they even brought out a black panther for a few minutes. I found your page in my Google searches – it’s a long shot but do you have any idea what I might be talking about?
