I just read that 150 passengers were stranded at the Kuwait Airport for up to 4 days because Kuwait Airways flights to Mumbai were cancelled. According to the article, on top of the waiting the passengers also had to endure discrimination and rude treatment. I once got stuck at the Kuwait Airport for 6 hours when my flight got delayed and I got bored to death so I can only imagine how terrible it must have been for these passengers. Here is the link to the article [Link]

what, discrimination, racism in Kuwait? heaven forbid… they didnt like it, and they wanted to leave, but couldnt.
Unfortunately yeah, but I thought this crap was only back in the ’90’s when we just came out of the war, as a half-kuwaity I had to endure it but I thought everyone was open about it now…. sadly now those who claim to be victims of racism will become themselves racists here bashing about how sad their life is and how Kuwaities are ‘all’ racist monsters.
unfortunately, the bad deeds of a few overshadow the good deeds, السيئة تعم والحسنة تخص
Yes, KWI staff are the worst of the bunch when it comes to customer service. I guess that boils down to cultural differences. Of course, KU cancelling flights…..yawn! Close this airline already!
Ahhhh the joys of travel!
This is absolutely Ridiculous!! Never Fly Kuwait Airways! Forget privatizing…I guess they should shud just shut the airlines. For Mumbai – Opt for Jet Airways instead….
Yes. I presume a few of the inconvenienced passengers were put on the Jet Airways flight, 9W 527.
What’s worst is these were transiting passengers coming in from US/Europe who had nowhere to go (in Kuwait) and were at the mercy of the airport staff to provide accommodation.
And FOUR days to get them a flight? Man that’s quite disgusting on the part of Kuwait Airways.
Shame.
It funny just because its kuwait airways its soooo bad and horrendous yet when British Airways workers decide to go on strike and screw there passengers for more than a few days – and people have no where to stay or eat or go – its fine they are civilised they are brits – no one complains – I have personally been screwed by strikes 3 times there just as bad as kuwait airways and just as racist and on top of all that double the price of kuwait airways
Didn’t BA compensate passengers with like KD200 or something?
Well the difference is the passengers in other airports don’t get treated like the way described in the article just because they are indian.
The indians from the US and Europe didn’t really understand why they were told to “shut up”.
workers on a strike are different that workers who are just rude, you cannot compare both scenarios.
have u read the article yourself? please do before jumping to their aid and getting all defensive. maybe pay close attention to the part where they treated the westerners who were delayed with respect, whereas everyone else was told to shut up.
if that is not racism, i dont know what is.
firstly, they were stranded but were not sitting on the floor for 4 days, they were given rooms in airport hotel with meals and they didnt have to pay for it,the company paid for it
secondly, there were no passengers staying for over 2 days,it just continued for 4 days with one flight getting delayed and the next followed, and the passengers from first flight were transferred to the next which caused the 2nd flight to get over booked and the next followed.but the oned who were already denied were given priority on the next flight.it was a chain reaction!
@ Queen
May be you have missed the news, it was not a chain reaction as you mentioned in your post…
from the same article….
“were ferried to the airport every day in the morning and made to wait for hours. “Every day for four days we were told that the plane would finally take off. On June 10, we were taken as far as the runway. However, an hour later we were brought back to the airport”
Kuwait Airways has been defaulting on its Mumbai route quite a bit now.
Flight delays and cancellations have become routine with them when flying out to Mumbai.Would Jet Airways or Kingfisher airlines please buy them out!
British Airways may be discriminatory, just the same there is at least some order to their madness unlike KU which is behaving every bit the cat on a hot tin roof!
Try as you might to resuscitate it; it keeps slipping deeper and deeper into a coma.
9W and IT are still recovering from the downturn years of 2008 and 2009, buying an airline is unlikely. Let alone an Arab airline. Let alone Kuwait Airways.
Kuwait 2011
Touche’ Yeh nothing changes!@#$
Racism has been practiced here in Kuwait for many years. Many of the readers here are well aware of the things that happen here in Kuwait towards people from Asia. No need to act like you dont know anything.
Half asians experienced it too Nate…
Can you please define for me your definition of “Racism”? and how is Kuwait (in general) a racist country?
Show us the state sponsored Racism in Kuwait?
So please stop the generalization and lets focus on the problem and be more objective in our criticism.
I feel ashamed on these acts done by some Kuwaitis, but that in no way justifies your arguement that we are a Racist country !!!
But seriously going to Mumbai through KA? what were they thinking? The airlines look like they’re gonna blow any second in the air (God Forbid) and plus its all expensive, why couldn’t they opt for something cheaper and more reliable like Gulf air or if they wanted ‘class’ coldn’t they just take Qatar airways, haye bashing my country like this but I dunno why those cheapos at KA fix their stuff.
They dont have a choice. These are Asian laborers. They dont get to choose their flight. Everything is booked by the company in which they work in. And as for the persons from JFK and Frankfurt, the airline in which they originally arrived is at fault. Why? because KA is probably the only airline who they agreed to have a codeshare partnership with. Gone are the days of luxurious air travel. Corporations are wracked with greed in these times.
Yea… that’s sad.
KAC is not making any money. In fact it’s losing $$ every single day. Expenses far exceed what the govt is paying, hence the 15+ year struggle between KAC and your lovely govt regarding privatization of KAC.
what does that have to do with anything?
Kuwait Airways is crap because it makes no money so nobody is trying 😛
Irrespective of the pride and international irresponsibility, the image of Kuwait in international circles is branded as uncultured and uncivilized. The news is published for the world to read.
Shame.
KA has always been crap, I don’t know why people are so surprised. Almost every flight I had with them was delayed one way or another and had massive turbulence or some electrical problem.
Thank god I never actually paid for any of those wretched flights.
I understand that there are prominent people in this country that want to buy the airline cheap, so they have let it deteriorate to a disgraceful state of affairs. It’s about to go on the bidding block? What people don’t get, is that the reputation of this country is on the line. Look at the other GCC states and analyze the success of their carriers AND the support that is given by their sheikhs.
For my visit to Kuwait this Sept, KA will be my very last option.
Still, I’m probably gonna have to deal with the shitty airport officials upon arrival, really looking forward to that….
BTW, I wasn’t generalizing, I’ve gone through some officers at the airport who were well mannered, but the majority that I’ve seen…… don’t even ask….
KA should not be in your option list at all, be smart. Sometimes I want to shoot myself with a tranquilizer gun before i go though Kuwait Airport, AND it takes me 4 days to destress from going through it and I fly business class. From the lousy porters to the airport staff it is a nightmare for me.
Not surprised,
i was travelling in KA to Mumbai this march, a fellow traveler sitting 2 raw’s behind me have no room in over head compartment, so he put his bag, below seat(i don’t recall but it is suggested to put baggage there in a safety video in some airlines.) A cabin crew came ask him find room in other compartment. i can hear the guy he very polity and in a frenziedly gesture replied that its OK i have enough leg room.
to my surprise the guy just shouted don’t talk.
and leave telling other crew member if he doesn’t cooperate call security.
Its like y? if he just have told him “sir its our policy you cant put your baggage there” -(minus) smile will even suffice, but i think “Sir” is out of question here coz guy was an Asian.
The thing is not every one talk like that guy, but no one is ready to acknowledged it is happening.
i will really like to see even a single person(local) agrees to racism in Kuwait.
i lived in kuwait for 10 years and honestly ive seen tons of discrimination there and myself i have faced racism , no offense but thank god i left.
What’s Chili’s too? is it a fast food version of Chili’s?
I hope they get to where they need to go, it sucks having a flight cancelled, and not knowing if your going get to where you need to be going… Its enough have to endure the whole process of traveling, this is just another twisting of the knife ;s
listen for all american europeon and from outside! if not liking kuwait then please, go for your home. we have money and habbyness. this all lie from beebles who have eye for kuwait. they are jealous.
if you are angry for kuwait having success and giving everhing for its children, then blease, go for an other country stealing money from beebles. TAX! HAHAHA this crazy?!
Can’t agree more with Nate and btw I am a kuwaiti that studies abroad. People treat me just the same as they treat their fellow citizen. Unlike Kuwait where racism exists.
Ay deen ay ba6eekh.
That’s funny people used to yell at me to “go back to where you came from”
Ah rednecks. A priceless lot they are.
Dont like it? then locate the nearest wall and start bashing your head against it. Kuwait is by the Kuwaities and for the Kuwaities, and I am sick of going to Kuwait airport because every inch has 10 expats packed into it, either getting deported, or new arrivals wanting to be rich, its disgraceful that one of 5 or 6 is a Kuwaiti. bah
BREAKING NEWS: Countries treat their own people better than foreigners
@ aaa
Is somebody asking here to treat foreigners better than nationals ???
dear read and understand, how come a transit flight is cancelled for 4 days and nobody can question about it and asked to SHUT UP, was those passengers flying for FREE, why were they not treated same as other foreigners..
You wouldn’t be saying that if those 10 expats were 10 Americans/Europeans.
What would Kuwait be without expats? Who would do all the the hard labor, serve you in restaurants, educate you, think for you etc.Your grammar is an indication you’re definitely not well educated.

I was flying to Mumbai on the 11th of January 2011 in Business Class (I’m Indian). The filipino air hostess looked at my boarding pass which was ROW 6 and told me to go sit in Economy class. I asked her AGAIN, ROW 6….she absent mindedly showed me the correct seat. A few minutes later while serving the welcome drink, she skipped me and served two young Arab males behind me. Then she was staring at me and came back asking “ROW 6 or 16.” Irritated by her behavior, I stuck the boarding pass on her face and said CAN’T YOU READ???!!!!
If I was one of those British or American businessmen (White skinned, actually) with a laptop on my shoulder and dark suit with no tie, she would have licked my a$$ and said “Good evening sir, how are you today? Would you like some tea, lemonade or coffee?” I swear if she had a tail it would be wagging.
Guys,
The hard thing for Q8tes is to beleive they are racism.
Than just see them drive.
You will know the whole story without any need to say or hear a word.
Wow guys seriously, you actually think ALL Kuwaitis are racists? That’s just ignorant of you, just because some idiots treat foreigners bad that don’t mean the others do. Racism is everywhere, not just in Kuwait. But as for Kuwait Airways, screw them 😛
While I agree with you that definitely not every Kuwaiti worships white ass, I see very little action from Kuwaitis to condemn such behavior. You guys have the money and voice to do it, so why not make your opinions public?
That’s because the government is messed up, and knowing other Kuwaitis they just want to stick to things as they are, it’s a sad lifestyle we live in.
Funny I have not flown Kuwait airways for 5 years and I am Kuwaiti,
I have been flying via Emirates Air to all my destinations for more then 7 6 years now (:
I meant 6 years now
I am locking up the post to commenting.
