The Black Clouds

If you’re wondering why the sky is black today it’s because there are a million tires burning. [YouTube]

Kinda reminds me of the oil fires from back in 1991.

Damn ! Today morning I was driving to Subiya and was wondering what’s the black cloud !

Why didn’t they sale it for recycle?

Is it those idiots in Amghara again?

A couple of years back a friend of mine had to go put out their fire because they didn’t realize how out of control a fire can get. They burn the tires so they can collect the scrap and sell it.

This cannot be good for the environment…
hope the govt. intervenes (we can always hope) with enough coverage of the event.. thanks for posting it.. now hope the mainstream media catches on as well and make an issue out of it

They’re probably trying to retrieve the steel belts from the radial tires but as I’ve heard from the recycling industry they can just as easily shred the tires and remove the steel that way. The shredded tires can then be used for road paving and other industrial uses.

Yeah, they’ve done this before and they were all arrested+deported. Looks like a new group wants to take over

thanx to bring into notice but, how come such a big pile of tires not recycled and burnt like this for polluting the air ?i am just shocked to see this. why aren’t authorities doing something about this? municipality or ministry someone has to intervene

this is ridiculous

A decade ago, Kuwait tried to prove the environmental damage that Iraq did to Kuwait’s environment during the Gulf War……..and here these morons are burning thousands of tires and exposing the environment, and us, to those toxic pollutants!!!

Where is the EPA? Un-friggen-believable.

checked on other news that it was not done purposely but a fire brokeout and fire fighters from various depts came on tuesday to bring fire under control?

whats the truth?

Kuwait hit the international press again-not favorably.

Kuwaiti lawmakers are likely to hold a special session to discuss a fire that has been raging in Al Jahra in north west of Kuwait City, fuelled by around five million used tyres.

The parliamentary debates will focus on the fire and on its consequences on the environment as well as on the government’s measures to confront hazards, MP Mohammad Al Dallal said.

Hundreds of firemen from several stations with support teams from the army, the national guard and Kuwait Oil company have been fighting to contain the fire in the dump for used tyres, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) said.

Most idiotic thing I have yet to see in Q8! Kuwait cried when the retreating Iraqis set fire to the oilwells and now this idiotic self-inflicted environmental disaster. Throw the people responsible for this act in jail and let them rot there!

You guys think this is stupid, there are loads of other incidents that happen that people are not aware of just because they don’t see a huge black cloud in the sky.

The gas from air conditioning units are left to drain into the atmosphere. Those gasses are really harmful.

why is everybody up in arms over burning tires? this country is ridden with pollution. a few burning rubbers is just a drop in the bucket compared to pollution produced by the petrochem industry
