A falcon sold for KD209,000

A falcon was recently sold at an unbelievable price: KD 209,000. This is a record price for a bird of any kind. The unique falcon was sold during an auction held in Jahra.

This falcon is a unique Iranian Farsi falcon which was hunted by Kuwaitis in Al- Nuweisib when it was flying over Kuwait from Iranian mountains during the migratory season, seeking warm weather. According to a local daily, these hunters were training their falcons in the area, and when they saw this unique falcon, they immediately sent a hunting pigeon with a net to capture it.

According to Al-Ruwei, if the falcon was hunted in Kuwait while it was flying over the country, its price would be higher than if it was hunted abroad. β€œPeople who love this hobby spread news about this on social media, so they always know where the falcon is hunted and when the auction takes place. When a falcon is imported into Kuwait, its keen followers will immediately know when exactly it entered Kuwait and passed through the customs,”

There’s a whole different world out there… [Link]

Now everyone will start hunting for falcons what a great idea to make money πŸ™‚ and then it will be among rarest endangered creatures. but who cares until money is good.

its just an enslavement of bird which is really bad.

hmmm… i need to “rent” a falcon for an event, any idea who to contact for that? falcon + handler, mainly for a photo op, couple of hours. any hints appreciated!

No you’re not. I find the whole thing very fascinating. I mean when you pay 200,000 for lets say a car or even a Twinkie, at least you know 20 years from now it’s still going to be with you. With a falcon though, I mean sooner or later it’s going to die. It might get sick tomorrow even you never know. How do they make their money back or do they even make money from these falcons?

Total guess (mostly because I’m currently too lazy to Google it) but perhaps they use it to capture other ones to sell or to breed? (Does falcon breeding even work that way?)

The falcon owner would say the same things bout you if payed 200000 for a car you can never feel what the lover feels. For them car might be just a metal with noise ! + some one who would pay 200k for a bird 200 k is the change in his pocket ! Paying 200 k for somthing he loves is nothing for him ! I know one of those bird lovers !

mark, its not about making back money always, sometimes its “i want this, i can afford it, maybe i dont need this but its a prize catch/buy which will make me look that i also can afford things like this.

its used as wild animals hunting for food similar to that they tie the nets on the legs of the pigeon to make them as a bait for the hunt(for food) that’s how they catch the falcons.

It’s a pigeon with a “trap” on it. When the falcon sees an easy meal it tries to catch it and gets stuck. The trap is just some nets, you have to catch the falcon perfectly intact without hurting it.

This is particularly interesting since every aspect of the story is illegal. All forms of hunting are illegal in kuwait, owning wildlife is illegal, and selling wildlife is illegal. One has to wonder what hope there is for Kuwait’s little remaining wildlife when poaching is so incredibly rewarding.

Hunting a Falcon with a pigeon with nets??? Now that’s something…

they should have an event for this πŸ˜‰
