Talabat Cofounders Acquire Q8flowers.com for KD1,000,000

q8flowers

As very early adopters of consuming flowers online and in looking for something already in existence they came across Q8flowers.com. “If you look at the region, the [online flower] community is fragmented, and if you zoom in on Kuwait it’s even more so,” AlOtaibi said.

The undisclosed investors, are, according to AlOtaibi’s office, a pool of angel investors who now can add Q8flowers.com as the seventh addition to their portfolio. “Like the PayPal mafia, we’re the Talabat Mafia,” one of the investors told Wamda.

According to a spokesman for AlOtaibi the user growth of the site has been growing at 100 percent year on year, “and this was with minimal traditional [marketing] efforts,” they said.

Going forward the new owners have a 12 month plan that involves, revamping the IP infrastructures of the site, expanding into other geographies and expanding into similar services within the same vertical of online and flowers. [Source]

Great for Q8flowers.com but I have to say I’m pretty surprised, I didn’t think they were doing that well.

I believe this finally opens up the doors for local angel investing. So far, it’s mainly been government funds that back startups. To my knowledge, this is the biggest investment that has happened to date, locally. Here’s to future prospects 🙂

Seriously? It doesn’t makes any sense o.O

800K global ranking means around 200-500 unique visitors everyday;

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.q8.flowers.app
1000
“Installs 1,000 – 5,000”

“We have not received enough ratings to display an average for the current version of this application.” means around 10K installs or less on iOS.

Much better results can be achieved in few months with new website/apps and around 20,000KD investment for advertisements.

I’m not saying they have bad revenue even with such low visitors and installs (most of visits will be converted to purchase), but still doesn’t makes any sense.

It’s localized domain name and oriented on specific segment (You can’t sell electronics or food on domain called q8flowers) and if they want to expand all over GCC or add additional products, they have to make rebranding anyway.

Alexa is not a good ranking platform, It depend on its tool bar.

the main concern right now I believe they should start with their SEM and fix their SEO + implementing remarketing.

I am sure they did a market insight before deciding to go with it.

Congrats to the new owners

Nobody is using Alexa toolbar anymore, they are Amazon company and they buy traffic data from different sources, mostly from popular browser plugin owners (many plugin collects visitor information, including popular adblock plugins).

Anyway, you are right about Alexa info not being 100% accurate, but there is no way 800K rank website have many visitors.
