I had to pass by and get my government health insurance renewed today and so I passed by the government’s health insurance center located behind Mubarak Hospital to get the paper work done. Once I walked in I was shocked at how many people were there all waiting in long lines. I’ve experience similar lines before for car registration and car ownership transfer but wasn’t expecting it today at this place which up until a few hours earlier I hadn’t heard of it before. I showed a security guard my papers and he told me I had to go to the top floor which I figured would have less people but turned out it was also packed.
But…
There were around 5 or 6 different windows each had a long line and then one window with KNET written on top that was empty. Under the word KNET was a small notice saying that there was an extra charge of KD4 for KNET transactions. I went to that window, handed my paperwork, paid the extra KD4 fee and walked out with all my paperwork completed in less than 5 minutes! Not only that but the guy asked me for photos which I forgot to bring so he took my civil ID card, scanned the photo from it and used it for my medical insurance card.
EVERY government related task in Kuwait should have a VIP line like this!

can’t believe that actually happened! lol..
I wouldn’t mind paying the extra charge to skip all that waiting, but isn’t KD 4 a lot ?!
well insurance is like KD50 so KD4 seems reasonable
I guess.. still feels like an international transaction fee 😛
agree to u mark , but that 4 kd for someone is amount he can do many other things. to charge 4 kd for knet is way more
What is a govt medical insurance is it different from the insurance luke axa or takaful provide ?? Isnt medical anyways free in the govt hosp. For expats ? Sorrt but im new in kwi.
Nope. It’s not. You’ve to pay 1KD each time you visit your local clinic. It’s only free in the hospitals.
WHAT? This is needed everywhere! hahahaha
I think its not VIP line, it pay4service line 🙂
I’d pay 10KD if it takes down my time from an hour to 5 mins
Amen to that.
Somebody correct me if I’m wrong..I’ve been getting my insurance in this building for the last 4-5 years and I’ve been under the impression that office is a private insurance company, that’s why they’re charging more than the government office downstairs (I believe KD 2 higher in normal transactions and maybe, just maybe, KD 4 for KNET)… But definitely faster..
KD 4 is like hala service !!
But seriously do they give any reciept for that amount?
“EVERY government related task in Kuwait should have a VIP line like this!”
Or all non-vip places should be modern like this…
It is private insurance company that works under gov. Supervision aand it used 2 be 3kd … Have been doing this for long time instead of waiting in line
Yes its a private counter. They charge KD 4 extra this I am doing for my family since long. Actually mark You did 1st time your residency so you were surprised!!
in Dubai as what i heard there is some government places that took extra money for VIP services and no line waiting. its good thing u need faster server and no line pay for it. other wise stay in the line.
this also make the bribery less 🙂
Is this the same insurance amount you pay when you get a residency ?
a friend who worked there told me that they can speed the work process there , but they are instructed not to , and the workers like it ( less work ) why ??
the upper floor charge an extra 3kd and it suppose to be faster than ground floor , so they want you to go to the first floor.
the knet is 3KD as the others + 1Kd commission ( as the Knet company will take about 3-5% from each transaction )
Mark, do you know if this private counter still exists? I am going tomorrow to purchase insurance for my baby and want to try and avoid the queues!
