Cookbooks are a pleasure to have, use, and gift to others, and recently our team has been obsessed with “Palestine on a Plate – Memories from my Mother’s Kitchen by Joudie Kalla”. It’s our September PantryBee Bookclub of the month choice for millions of reasons, all of them delicious.
Palestinian-Briti Joudie Kalla is a caterer and a restaurateur in London with a Middle Eastern restaurant in Chelsea named Baity. Her cookbook is filled with classic Palestinian recipes that have been passed down to her from her grandmother and family, and like all great Arabic cooking it caters to carnivores and plant based eaters alike. Our favorite picks include: Sayadeyeh, Salatet jaj wa freekeh, kubbeh bil sanniyeh, Teta Huda’s mussaka and last but not least mejdool date scones.
If you want to hear a bit more, watch the quick interview with Joudie above.

Yummy! I love Jewish food.
Jews make the best food, hey atleast they didn’t support saddam invading us… just sayin.
You guys just baffled me, let me entertain and educate you for a bit..
If you love Jewish food, then you have to be more specific, do you love:
-Palestinian-Jewish food? (if you don’t know what the hell i am talking about, google الطائفة السامرية)
-Arab-Jewish food? (Moroccan-Tunisian-Yemeni-Iraqi-Egyptian).
-European-Jewish food?
-Russian/Ukrainian-Jewish food?
-Flasha-African-Tribe-Jewish food?
-Miscellaneous-Scattered-Over-The-World-Jews-Who-Refuses-To-Be-Zionists-Jewish food?
If -hypothetically and for the sake of argument- i worked in Saudi Arabia for 10 years, then got jailed for 1 year because of a bad Saudi individual, the got bailed and fairly compensated, would i ever hate Kabse or say something stupid like “Majboos is better because the Kuwaitis would never do that to me?”
Not only you’re argument is invalid, you’re arrogantly stepping on what ever genuine love Palestinians expats had and still have for Kuwait even for those who’ve been born, raised, and then deported.
Just sayin..
I’m sure the had extreme love for Kuwait which is why they would graffiti the most disgusting shit on the walls of government buildings and go around looking for Kuwaiti “slaves” I believe was the term used during the war. Oh and Jews have around tens of hundreds of years before palestiniens, so actually palestinien-Jewish food comment ain’t valid. Oh and last time I checked Israel was doing less damage to Arab countries than Palestine… just sayin.
Wow, my appoligies, let’s strike out “Entertain” and keep “Educate”.
You’re not only politically wrong, you’re wrong historically and religiously.
Am not quite sure what religion you believe in, but i’ll assume you’re believe in an Abrahamic religion (unless you’re Atheist, which makes silly arguing this in the first place).
From a religious point of view, more specifically from a religious-historical perspective, Old Palestine and Palestinians are not Arab, they’re Kana’ani’s and they were there before Jews, hence the Quran says:
“قَالُوا يَا مُوسَىٰ إِنَّ فِيهَا قَوْمًا جَبَّارِينَ وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدْخُلَهَا حَتَّىٰ يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا فَإِن يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا فَإِنَّا دَاخِلُونَ”
Now, if you’re gonna argue that God demanded Jew peolpe to “enter and claim this land” -which is true- you’re gonna go all the way down to the verse:
قَالَ فَإِنَّهَا مُحَرَّمَةٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ۛ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً ۛ يَتِيهُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ فَلَا تَأْسَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْفَاسِقِينَ (26)
And whether or not you studied Tajwid at school, you’ll know that ” ۛ” tells you to pause when reciting, combining that with the fact that Jewish factions such as Naturi Karta (Google and educate you’re self) believes that Palestine is for Palestinians and Israel is against God’s dictation, hence it translates as Forbidden + being lost for 40 years as a punishment, heck, even John Stewart (who is Jewish yet not Zionist in case you don’t know) made fun of that when he met Bassem Yousuf in Al-Barnameg in Egypt, saying in the show and i quote “Now i’ve got 39 Years, 364 days left”.
If you seriously believe that Palestine and powerless kids struggling to get their school through checkpoints is doing more “damage” (whatever the heck that means) to Arab countries than Israel, then you’re not only making Palestinians Titan’s of this universe, you’re literally dishonoring and disgracing all Arab countries including our beloved Kuwait that it’s support to the Palestinian Cause (whether or not through the right/corrupt people that’s a totally diffrent story), is undeniable, a proof of concept, if you go to Cinescape 360, you’d see their history museum that a a humble percentage of the movie tickets would go to support the Palestinian struggle.
I really can’t understand you’re hatred speech, unless you or members of you’re family have been abused by Iraqi-Palestinian militias or a couple of bad palestinian individuals which is totally understandable and i am completely sympathetic, feel really sorry and my heart goes for your loss, but i can assure you this kind of shit happens all ove the world at all times, as a matter of fact, it is happeneing right now in Kuwait against expats.
But if that is not the case, i would seriously recommend you go see a shrink so you can move on with your life (if you got any). If you’re having difficulties finding one, i’d more than happy to provide you with a phone number for great one:
بدالة المطاعم 1808081 1808033
you are a fat kid init
No…? Init…? Are you trying to be British? Your special.
Try Eastern Europe
Sulaiman, you got that right
Relax there cowboy, no need to generalize, just cause a bunch of retards supported Saddam doesn’t mean all Pali’s did. Matter of fact, most Palestinians that lived here pre gulf war 1 loved and considered Kuwait to be their home.
Any place I can have good Musakhkhan? (Kalha used to make it well. But now they’ve gone down in quality and qty)
