MP BuRamiah warns Communication Minister on internet prices

Someone get me some popcorn:

Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Daifallah BuRamiah expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Ministry of Communication, adding that giving the internet companies the chance to manipulate prices is unaffordable. BuRamiah said, “The ministry has become a playground for some influential traders and those who rob public funds.” He added claiming that the ministry turned a blind eye to the improper practices of some companies in order to gain political loyalty at the expense of public funds.

MP BuRamiah said that the ministry’s insistence on keeping internet services monopolized by a small number of companies indicates that the ministry is supporting some companies against the subscribers in order to satisfy some greedy traders and influential people. BuRamiah noted that he would direct parliamentary questions to the Minister of Communication to inquire about the number of internet companies, their owners, the fees, and also about the reasons behind not allowing foreign companies to enter the local market. He also warned the minister of neglecting his questions, which will in turn reveal the facts about those who rob public funds.

If the MPs really cared, they’d push to bring in an independat telecom regulator. Whats happening in kuwait is illegal, forget the download caps…price-fixing is pure corruption.

Every country in GCC, experiences quality internet service at a reasonable price, except for Kuwait.

Qatar, Saudi and UAE all offer FIBER OPTIC (uncapped speeds up to 100MB/S)internet service at a fraction of what we pay for 8 MB/S (capped of-course!!!)

Companies like Qualitynet should seriously be fined, by the Ministry of trade, for everyday they impose price-fixed offers to customers, they’ve monopolized the industry. But that won’t happen since we know who’s head the Chamber of Commerce.

Of course, you people feel the need to always give crap to people whose mothertongue isn’t English just like you do in your countries. Quit the trolling. Instead of thanking the poster you start pointing out gramattical errors.

I agree with Fahad.

Quality Net is the worst ISP in Kuwait and one of the main reasons for the sudden bandwidth cut off with MOC – which it controls through bribes and gifts.

They dont invest in infrastructure, their management is lazy and intent on milking as many government contracts as they can and they are plagued by disconnects and bad customer service.

MOC = quality net.

Open up the ISP gates in Kuwait and let foreign companies join.

They are one and the same.

Maybe he meant “(un-)affordable” in the following context:

“Given that the Internet has become an indispensable tool for realizing a range of human rights, combating inequality, and accelerating development and human progress, ensuring universal access to the Internet should be a priority for all States. Each State should thus develop a concrete and effective policy, in consultation with individuals from all sections of society, including the private sector and relevant Government ministries, to make the Internet widely available, accessible and AFFORDABLE to all segments of population.”

Rapport UN 2011

I like how most of the mps that talk about this problem

Use twitter daily (arabic only) looks like they got alot ofcomplaints there and they were capped while using it ;P

No just talk as usual, It really is a joke, this situation. I doubt anything serious will be done about this issue actually lol

فيصل المسلم:وكيل وزارة المواصلات أبلغني الغاء زيادة أسعار الإنترنت والاستخدام العادل

In other words faysal al musalm says that he spoke to some big maneger in the moc and the price increase +cap will be gone in a short period of time
