Interior Ministry announced on Monday that it has asked the Ministry of Communications to suspend all anonymous accounts on the social networking site (Twitter).
The ministry said in a press statement that such measure comes in order to preserve the rights of citizens and residents of people who were used to slander them and their families under fake names, saying that such is a crime punishable by law.
It confirmed that all public have the freedom of expression guaranteed to them by the Constitution as long as those practices are going according to the law, especially with regard to using the (Twitter) site.
It explained that this step comes within the context of the ministry’s keenness to preserve community values and respect for the law. [Source]
That’s technically not possible. Kuwait’s Ministry of Communication can’t suspend twitter accounts. Sounds like a request from a department that doesn’t understand how twitter (and possibly the internet) works. I’m sure the MOC know that’s not possible and probably just replied to them with “enshallah”.

Mark i dont know you staying in which part of the world !! Prince Waleed has a huge stake in TWITTER !
So now you know which technology they are going to use ?
Prince Waleed has a tiny stake in twitter and no control in deleting accounts or decision making.
Then why MOC didn’t announce for FB ?
That’s like asking why they didn’t announce instragram? The problem they’re talking about is happening with twitter not facebook.
To think that twitter is willing to delete twitter accounts which Kuwait wants deleted is absurd.
he was able to get his wife’s account verified.. lol
?! lmao ..
I’m not sure but I heard that shortly after he bought some shares, his wife’s account got the blue tick that shows the account actually belongs to that person
lol
This is just such a load of b*******.
Ban Twitter- but hey it’s erfectly alright to have iPhone apps like ‘whoshere’ or ‘flirtmaps’, which allow your daughters all over the country to send pictures of their privates to every Tom, Dick and Ahmed….even send their phone number for live video calling and their geographical location for a ‘meet up’…..another typically ass about face hypocritical edict form some nameless ministry fool……give me a BREAK!!!
You can set an iphone to restrict that, if the parents don’t pay attention to what kids are doing don’t blame the government
*perfectly/from…..typed in anger lol
Photoshop!
Shako Photoshop π
as u said Mark, technically it isn’t possible. Twitter or any company with that size of fame will fight against law not to abuse ur account unless ordered by court etc… and for MOC to do what was requested, it’s like Twitter handling the key of their head office for Kuwait to go around and do whatever they want in their website π have a MOI tickets payment gateway as a widget on twitter too perhaps π
Have a brilliant day y`all
They can probably ban the whole site with one of those ‘VIVA ACCESS DENIED’thingies- can they??
yeah they can block the whole site but don’t think they would do that.
LOL anyone anonymous is probably also from a different country, I can see the system admin at twitter scratching his head if he ever gets such a request…ignorance is bliss!
I’d say 90% of tweeters are anonymous- do you think my real name is Fishma?
Mrs Fish Ma…….mmmmmm π
Why do you say it is impossible? last time I’ve checked, each twitter account has it’s own URL. They might not be able to block their tweets from showing up on other time lines (re-tweets, mentions, etc.) or # searches. They can easily block their URL though.

Thats not suspending accounts… that’s blocking a persons twitter page which doesn’t even block their tweets if you’re already following them.
Who exactly falls under the anonymous category?
No way! You are totally right! They wouldn’t be able to block those accounts. I think there are many important problems that Kuwait should be sloving.
and they can still access their profile using apps..
*smack their head* money doesn’t work everywhere
lol some government old guy thinks there’s a switch for turning off the internet.
Actually, Sweden is implementing a similar law. This means people can no longer send out things such as hate messages and hide behind the anonymity the internet affords them.
If you wouldn’t say something to a person’s face, why be a coward and type something via the internet
If this sorry state of affairs continues much longer, Kuwait itself will turn into an anonymous has been state.
Every day I learn something new on mark248am1.wpenginepowered.com,, its like free schooling, IT101. Thanks everyone..
@Faris- mmmmm threat of jail, execution…..reality check….need I go on.
guys, what they will do (and its done recently) is to ban the access to specific accounts
1) they have specific usernames
2) they’ll get the ip addresses they used to log-in
3) get all the details of that person (mobile number and stuff)
4) block this ips and monitor all his mobile numbers and stuff to block further log ins
and….. virtual ip?
1) That is a lot of effort
2) IP Addresses don’t work that way, these days most of them are dynamic so you end up blocking effectively an entire ISP
3) You can’t get those details from an IP address
4) Have you seen the Kuwait Government websites? They look like they were made in 1992 this is way too much effort for them
1984
Good news, people should put their real names and pictures.
SOPA – Kuwaiti Version xD
Mark,
I read this piece of news in an arabic news paper. I think the meaning is lost in translation.
They are banning accounts that complaint’s were filed against. Some accounts were opened to attack, insult, bash, or impersonate public figures. Thus the ministry is banning them.
Dont turn this into a censorship o it sucks issue.
I didn’t turn it into anything, I was highlighting the fact that they can’t ban or block accounts.
What?
Yes you did !! with a big o’ll sign saying
“Censorship Sucks”
isn’t that your banner? or the article’s?
Change the banner to “Can’t Block Accounts” if thats the msg you were sending π
It is about censorship, the want to suspend accounts to muzzle people… that’s censorship.
Point is they can’t ban them, twitter has to delete the accounts and they won’t. They can block the url which means you can’t click on their profile but you can still see their tweets if you search them or follow them.
Do you mean that when people don’t want to do something they say ensha Allah?
Please don’t abuse the word, it has a profound meaning and we say it and we do mean it.
Saying enshaAllah means god’s will.
So you can say enshAllah and not have it happen, it’s not the same as a promise of success, but a promis to try.
Sometimes it’s easier to say you’ll try than to say it can’t be done with some folks I guess.
Loses it’s meaning in translation/perception.
Also who is “we” ?
I hope you mean it and say it with sincerity but I don’t think that applies to all people, surely not when it comes to politics anyway.
I love the comments and I agree with Mark, this is absurd!
Hahahahaha This makes me want to say ” Dumb Asses “
