Dogs, Lots of Dogs

Yesterday evening we took Geo to the Marina Crescent park to meet up with Fadibou and his puppy Mikki. Turns out Geo and Mikki really liked each other and they spent most of the evening playing together on the grass and sand. Only problem is that Geo is 13KG while Mikki is 1.5KG. So Geo was like hurting Mikki accidentally while playing. Anyway we walked further up the beach and met with 3 other puppies. the oldest being 3 months old. All 5 dogs spent around an hour running around playing with each other in the sand. They were 4 males and 1 female but Mikki was the star, all the dogs seemed to want to play with him. Geo had a lot of fun and I was hoping all this playing would get him tired enough to put him to sleep early and I was right.. for a while. Geo ended up going to sleep at 10PM in his fenced off area and we went to sleep right after since both me and Nat hadn’t gotten any sleep the night before. Everything was fine until around 12:30AM we woke up to Geo’s whining and barking. He must have woken up in the middle of the night and realized he was all alone downstairs and he just went ballistic. The book we read said this would happen and that we should leave him alone but he was just too loud. I called up my brother next door and asked him if he could hear Geo and he told me he could very clearly. So not to get in trouble with the neighbours we solved the problem by Nat sleeping on the couch in the living room with Geo on the floor next to her. The living room has hardwood floors so in case Geo decided to “go” during the night it wouldn’t be that a big a problem while our bedroom is carpeted and would be a lot more difficult to clean. So now hopefully next week we will be replacing the carpet in the bedroom with hardwood, that way Geo can sleep with us in the bedroom, the only way we will ever get some sleep..

yeah its going to be a bit difficult in an apartment cuz everyone can hear. I wonder how this will affect his training.. i hope both of you get more sleep! πŸ™‚

man come on you didn’t know that dogs like to sleep with their owners? i don’t think i ever met anyone that keeps their dog sleeping in a cage or outside at night except like some kuwaiti shabaab that abuse their dogs. dogs are incredibly needy.

no its actually very common to leave your large dog sleeping in his space. with toy dogs its not a problem to have sleep in your bedroom or on your bed but with large dogs its more of a problem and most of it is psychological and thats why when they are stil young you have to get them used to the fact that you are the master and you sleep upstairs and that they are just a dog and they sleep downstairs. Don’t think I will be able to do that though..

hmm large dogs are more fun to sleep with too πŸ™‚ you can like rough em around and stuff hehehe. but yeah i guess you have to train them to sleep in their place kinda like if you had a child that keeps crawling into your bed. i dunno i guess for me part of the fun in having a big dog is letting them mope around ont he bed or couch and wrestling with them heh. geo is awesome.

yeah for sure, the main reason for me getting a large dog is the fact that they are more fun to play with. the problem is if you get the cute little puppy used to sitting with you on your small couch, when that little puppy grows to be a big dog and both of you no longer fit on that small couch and you tell him “no”. The dog will get sad and not understand why he no longer can sit with you on the couch. They don’t understand that they are bigger now.

no so far he doesnt. yesterday we had lunch and he didnt seem interested on what was being served on the table. i have given strict directions anyways to everyone in my family not to feed him anything off the table. that way he doesnt get into the habbit.

Sorry.. lol. How much did they say will Geo grow? how big will he get?

Is your internet at work or at home working?

He is gonna get pretty big! At least he is playful!

I hope your phone starts working soon.. I can imagine how bad it is without internet!

try leaving the tv on. background noise of human voices might be a solution to your puppy’s separation anxiety. or, make a sound loop with your soothing voices and leave it playing throughout the night.

goodluck.

my tiny dog used to sleep in my bedroom…. it was toilet trained and would bark when it needed the bathroom and i woke up to let it go to the bathroom in the garden… I had the dog since I was 4 yrs old until it died of old age when i was 21. I miss the little thing πŸ˜€

Im glad Geo met some friends, you never know it could have met a girlfriend and babies will appear soon πŸ˜€ then you’ll be grandparents!
