Kuwait 3rd largest consumer of gasoline in the world

According to Al-Qabbas newspaper Kuwait is the third largest consumer of gasoline in the world per capita after Canada and the United States. The average per capita consumption in Kuwait is 0.9 gallons while in Canada it’s 0.93 and the United States 1.22. Keep in mind both Canada and the US are advanced industrial nations so the fact we came third is just insane. [Link]

Not unexpected at all ! An almost non-existent public transport system and a low population deliver the number. Consumption per capita is usually based on consumption per Kuwaiti Citizen … not visitors or temporary residents.

True. Also don’t forget the cheap prices, an increase in price will see a decrease in demand (usage).

I really don’t care, all I can think of right now is how amazing happy I am right now that Wataniya Airways is COMING BACK! It will be a low budget carrier model, much needed in the market – just hope it goes to Dubai and most importantly, it gets the Royal Terminal. I am OUT OF THE KIA!!!!!!!You can have that piece of s***t airport that is grossly mismanaged. I’m SOOOOOO tired of Jazeera Airways!

Besides the no public transport, no one walks or bikes anywhere. It’s either too hot, dusty, or the transport system doesn’t allow it (Can’t take a bike from home to college due to lack of proper bikes lanes for example).

Hooray for someone else who wants bike lanes. If only Q8 could catch on to biking. It would be a happier place.

Yep except it isnt the same product. Us gasoline is of lower quality and has relatively low octane levels.

I wonder if they take into account the amount of oil it takes to fuel the largest oil tanker fleet in the world KOTC! spend money to make money!

And on top of that the Kuwait government is paying the bill every time ANYONE fills up their gas, and the price hasn’t increased in how long?

Don’t worry about those few cents spent on grants for the domestic market. It keeps the people satisfied and it’s been amply compensated by the development of the international oil price.

Average prices for OPEC crude oil :

2003 – 28,10 US dollars per barrel
2013 – 106,03 US dollars per barrel

It’s not surprising as Kuwait has turned into a dumping ground of 5.7L V8s that can’t be sold anywhere else and people are not encouraged to buy fuel efficient vehicles and there’s no congestion charge on bigger vehicles entering the city.

Also since fuel is cheap no one actually bothers to switch off the engine when they’re refueling or waiting at the fast food joints for their orders.

Cheap fuel, thirsty cars, traffic jams, cheap parking, no toll roads, no public transportation, etc. What do you expect?
