Who’s responsible?

Local blogger Frankom shot the picture above this morning on his way to work. Not sure what kind of school would lack basic child safety regulations… [Link]

I guess these are private transport buses, which do not really come under the school administration.
I also highly doubt schools or any department in the ministry can be held responsible should something go wrong here. The responsibility lies with the parents to give a ‘basic etiquette training’ to their kids.

This is not a shocking image …. There is no one to supervise kids on buses…. The driver as we all know has no say in anything and if he even opens his mouth he will probably get his ass kicked.

what’s even sadder…. the kids think this kind of behavior is cool and makes them superior

The question is : is there a way the driver/bus can be reported and to whom ? I see all sort of school buses with all sort of could-be accidents every day almost

Why would you want to report the driver, I highly doubt he was the one to open the bus door, so the breeze could come in. Ya sure lets all blame it on the poor bus driver, who most likely told the boys off, in which they just ignored him.

I don’t know if you took the buses back in AIS, but this type of crap used to happen there all the time.

this is normal :” but wrong” ? when I was a kid all the kid did that it’s quite normal in this country private school and goverment school arabic and non arabic school its normal in kuwait

you can this is a tradition among schools

Of course it’s wrong.

Doesn’t matter about tradition or culture. No culture willingly allows children to be at risk without at least trying to do something about it.

Just because things were unsafe when you were a kid doesn’t make it right.

i like the fact that this is turned out to be acceptable… the problem in Kuwait is that almost everything gets accepted “as per the norms” and nothing get under the umbrella of rules and regulations… just picture your son/daughter on that daughter and you would know what am talking about… just my 5 cents on that…

Its weird cause few weeks ago I saw a 7 yearold boy driving s Grizzly ATV no helmet no nothing in the desert so people now adays couldn’t care less about safety but when they die they blame abdulfatah al ali

Had a rant but looked at the picture again and saw more than just a buy sitting.

The bus seems crowded. Might be true or not.
The kid isn’t wearing any socks, anyone checking on what he wears before going to school ?
The bus door looks crooked, wonder how functional it is.

Who is at fault ?
Same usual answer .. Society ..

The kid is a non-Kuwaiti Arab boy attending a Pakistani school, he is most likely Egyptian or Lebanese.

Why are you blaming Kuwaiti society for this child’s parents incompetence? Get a grip, you just want any excuse to mock Kuwait.

What if I told you that his comment does not mention nationality or a country, but your insecurity makes you immediately jump to the conclusion that he is trying to mock someone. FYI society refers to the collective population unless otherwise specified. You are the one who obviously needs to get a grip.

What I find even funnier if not sad is the fact the kids in the background seem to know that some one is taking a picture and they are actually posing for the shot. One of them s actually taking a pic of the photographer .. nice

We have our kids at a very expensive school that is considered to be one of the best in Kuwait and the school administration cannot guarantee that their bus contractor provides buses with seatbelts for all passengers. As a result are we and the vast majority of all other parents taking our kids to school in our private cars, contributing to the bad traffic condition we face every morning and afternoon.

Problem one: Educate children and parents on the importance of safety. No God irrespective of what you call him/her will stop a kid from being thrown out of a bus because he/she is not wearing a seatbelt when a bus is in an accident!

Problem two: Set school bus rules (for all schools) and enforce them. Vetted transportation companies that provide buses with seatbelts and throw off any kid that refuses to wear the seatbelt.

Problem three: Change school timing so that schools within the same area start at different time, so that all cars do not need to be on the road at the same time.

By the end of the day are our children our most valuable assets so why put them at risk!

Schools have been shifting timings actually, some start earlier and some start later. Traffic has been way worse in general the last couple of years, they need to just expand outwards. Look at a map of Kuwait and you’ll realize everything we live on is like 5% of the country which is already tiny.

Yeah, ban schools in residential areas and shift them out towards and beyond 6th ring-road or build more housing developments out towards and beyond 6th ring-road. It is all too dense now in the 5%. It all comes down to poor infrastructural planning!!!

This is just the Kuwait equivalent of the stupid things I used to do on the NYC Subways at his age. Most of us survived, so will he.
