55 Dinars Burger, shall I go for it?

Trilogy

I am not sure if I should try the KD55 burger next week while I am in Thailand so I decided I will let you guys decide for me. The Trilogy Burger at Trader Vic’s in Bangkok costs KD55 ($200) because of the very expensive ingredients. If you guys vote that I should try the burger then I will do it, take pictures of it and post my feedback on this blog. Since I’ve already gone through most of the best burgers in Kuwait as part of my Best Burger in Kuwait Challenge then I think it would be interesting to see how the Trilogy Burger will compare. If you guys think its a stupid idea and not worth it then you can vote a no.

Update: Some readers suggested it would be better not to waste money on this burger and to feed the needy instead. So what I’ve decided to do is also donate $200 to the World Food Programme. That way if the result is YES to having the burger I won’t have to feel guilty. $200 will be enough to feed 133 children for a week. You can also help by donating to the WFP. [Donate Now]

Mark, do you work as a burger tester ? cause the only thing i know about you is roaming around the world and testing burgers .. no offence i am just wondering ๐Ÿ˜‰

Totally agree with you chicka .. what a burger that you gonna pay 200 bucks for .. thats a waste of money dude !

Don’t waste your money. The ingredients aren’t very appetizing if you ask me, I mean Foie Gras? gooses liver? Ew! black truffle in a burger? that would throw the whole burger off.

Next thing you know Mark posts his Paypal account number and tells people to send him 1 KD! ๐Ÿ˜€

I vote for NO !
Man, 55KD for something you will drop in the bathroom next day !. You eat it today, tommorrow it will be SHIT !

Sorry for that, but this is the TRUTH, face it ๐Ÿ™‚

Giv Nat something, bettar than BURGER which will be SHIT next day !, or Buy me new iPhone as gift ๐Ÿ™‚

Well the question is not would you want to pay for it or not, the question is do you feel its so yummy you are willing to pay for it or not?

Then again, maybe if you leave the fois gras and the golden leaf out, it would be a less expensive burger but the most expensive mushroom burger there is… ?

people are dying across the borders for 5 kd meal a whole meal and u want to waste 55 kd for just a burger !! ambeeeh alaah eb yakhfes fena in other words (karma) !

Don’t!…. thats a waste of money man….with $200 you can feed 4 starving kids in Africa for a whole year

Mmm, I may not make myself v.popular for saying this, but I think everyone is making a bit too much of this in the name of symbolism.

A lot of us drive nice cars. If we drove less expensive cars we could feed starving kids with that money… same with nice wine or designer clothes. We could do without it all if we wanted. This burger is an experience in the same way that a bottle Crystal or a bottle of Blue Label is. Is it worth it, probably not, but at least if you try it you will know.

I hate the idea of fois gras, but apart from that I would try it, just so I could comment with authority on the experience of one of the worlds most ridiculously expensive burgers.

Hats off to you for the generous donation you are making, but I don’t think you should feel guilty for trying the burger ang more than you should about owning a Z4.

No: most of the money is spent on babying the cow with no measurable effect on taste. Bathing a cow in sake does not render it tastier postmortem.

I would say donate Poor Children in Africa Nothing to eat while we are playing around and having a good life and eating 55KD burgers

i would say mark feed the 133 poor children there imagine how happy they will be and thankful

Ali, by clicking on “yes” up there ๐Ÿ˜›
n since your at it, why not get all your readers one,
would make a nice souvenir ;p

..really thats strange! im using a mac n it worked, i actually voted no..its the wiser thing to do

Mark,
The Best Burger Challenge or somethin is itself a waste man…neways…its OKAY coz u jus put some money on it !!

BTW….

55 KD Burger is way too much…Dont man…..Like d Others Say,Donate the money to poor ppl..Children are starving without one meal a day.Donate it to a place where you know that the needy will really get it and it is not pocketed by the Ppl.

Or else ,

Buy me a iPhone with 55 KD MAN !!!!
I NEED ONE !!!!!

Man.. money comes and money goes.. if u dont eat that burger u’d prob spend it on some other thing.. so why not ? I say yes.. have a safe trip btw

il7een yom sarat burger ib 50 kd sar israf?
we eat in our expensive q8y burger joints all the time, the burger is 2 kd plus when we can eat the same burger in mcdonalds for 300 fils. isnt that israf y3ni?

If it was a really expensive meal like steak and truflle sauce, would every one be so disgrunted? wella leesh it says burger fa 6ay7a min 3enkom?

Ham walla ini i go in line for villa moda sale and fight over a gucci bag when my cupboard is full of 20 something gucci bags is israf…

ham walla buying a bag for 500+ kd a o party dress for 1000+ Kd is israf!!! Why is that ok but a burger for 50 is not ok? because the bag can be flashed in public while the burger no one will know about?

That designer bag can have people living decently in africa for a year … so why don’t you do it instead of preaching about the sin of using a 50 kd for a burger? it is a meal… it is food and it is expensive food and if he is doing is for once in a life time kefah … its not like he will have it flown over daily. But when will we stop buying expensive bags and party dresses? do we do it once in a life time? I dont think so!

I say don’t go for it, it’s worthless and if people really want you to do it then put a payment link to let them pay you whatever the experience they want you to try.

Why is this an issue? Voting for weather you feel like eating something you have your mind on? Come on Mark, you know people always have opinions.
I’m sure, as Jim and Daddy’s Girl said somewhere up there, that some people would have no problem spending money on clothes or cars, although they could have donated that money to feed kids in poor countries. Such hypocracy, I LOVE IT!
Anyways if we’re suddenly in this hippie mood (let’s feed the world! brotherly love!) bullshit then why don’t you people do something about it? I for one have sponsored a child in Guatemala through:
https://www.planusa.org/
Dare I say anyone is doing the same? I hope so.

1. I suggest you don’t eat that silly expensive one.
2. try other burgers in Thailand and give us your reviews. maybe some Thai versions of restaurants/burgers you already reviewed in Kuwait.
3. donate the money to poor kids, specifically orphans. but start with poor kids in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Syria and even in Kuwait.
4. don’t eat too much anyway ๐Ÿ™‚
5. wish you a beautiful journey and nice times there.

order the Morel Mushroom Burger, 107 KD per a KG, which will cost around 50KD since i doubt the burger is 1KG of meat

now thats a burger that better give me an orgasm

Daddy’s girl…C’mon!! are you comparing between food (that goe’s withen hour’s), and SOMETHING TO KEEP item’s !!! there is NO WAY of comparing AT ALL !!! again, there is no way of comparing between 200 fils and 2 KD burger, cuz the first one is cheap, and the other is reasonable! i really cannot get your point of view, sorry ! btw.. i voted for Mark with YES, but with a different point of view.

Classy ….

Have you not heard of the black widow burger in Slider Station for 11.750 KD?

Have you not heard of the Monster Burger in Burger Hub? I recall it was about 15 KD?

Why? Same concept its food that will be gone. why pay that much!

How about fage3? why would you eat expensive fag3? are fag3 prices reasonable mathalan?

Why would you burn expensive bokhoor? 200 kd plus for a toola when it will just burn. is that to keep?

Why would you smoke expensive imported cigars?

Why would you drink expensive, so-called groumet coffee?

Every person is free to do what he wants to do and enjoy his life the way he wants it. whether by a bag, a haircut, a cigar, a dress, a gourmet meal.

And so what if it is to keep or not? the important thing is how it will make you feel. Will i feel good doing that? will i enjoy it? thats the question. Do i enjoy drinking my starbucks coffee every morning even though i pay 2 kd for it when i could have had nescafe? or do i enjoy flashing my new limited edition lv bag in public more than i would flashing my new zara bag i bought for 15 kd? wala ana to me i would rather enjoy small amounts of quality food over a longer perioud of time than buy a bag, a mere bage, for 1000 kd.

If you will attack mark or anyone for eating a 50 KD burger just becasue u think its a mere burger and why would you eat it for 50 KD ib7ejat il israf, then its not fair. i say lets take a look at what we do in our lives and learn about how israf is really like.

If you attacking him just becasue its food o food in general is not supposed to be that expensive. Well dont eat fag3 o starbucks again. same concept stands.

If i want to eat a burger in slider station for 11.750 kd then its up to me, not anyone else, to decide if its worth it or not. Mithil ma you think its ok for a bag to be 500 KD plus becasue its something to keep. its up to you keefkom. But dont come preach us about 7ram o israf o nass yowa3a when you are doing the same but for a different level of thing.

Do you know the price tag on a hermes berkin bag? can u tell me that is reasonable?

How long do you think any bag will keep? Most of them are well out of season and wont be worn again. maybe no the hermes berkin but any other bag you bought with someones whole worth of monthly rent.

How many times do you we think the dress can be worn again? i paid 2000 kd for a dress to wear at a wedding, do you think i will keep wearing it for the next decade? Chances are it wont make it till next year’s wedding.

Mark
If you know how to cook, then it would be much better to buy the Ingts & invite friends over, it is cheaper this way and get more feed back ๐Ÿ™‚

I wonder if the self righteous people going on about the starving kids are actually donating cash themselves? I’ll bet each of them can afford a couple of hundred dollars. Me, I’d have the burger. Kudos to Mark for donating (burger or not). To the people going on about starving kids, quit telling Mark to donate and donate yourselves!

55kd is around 7000 Baht, thats enough to rent a 2008 Honda scooter, get hooked up with a prostitute or two for a FULL Day, have the best lunch (like seafood) also the best dinner. then u can drink till u die n go to several bars ..clubs..discos… then stay in the best 5 star hotel for a night. maybe u will still also have 1000-1500 Baht left.

do it mark, try it, just once in a lifetime (or should i say charge to experience!) ๐Ÿ™‚
btw, have a safe trip!

To be honest i’d say go for it, like alot of people here say, you only live once. My only worry, is that you really wount like it, or it just wount be that great sinceits over hyped by the price. Thing is, you have been on this burger challenge for some time now, its a burger, its out there, try it. Donating or not donating any money has nothing to do with having or not having the burger, you can do both. Plus, yes it can feed alot of people out there, so can the extra cash you are willing to spend on a Merc,BMW or any high priced car. Hell dont put your kids in private schools either, its a waste no. Put things in perspective, everything in moderation. Its not like Mark is gonna have this burger everyday, hell he even thought a burger here which cost 13kd or so was way over priced, so ya. I guess going by this idology then we should burn any place down that dares to serve something so outrageous. How dare they.

Daddy’s girl… i didnt attack mark again i voted with YES.
bokhoor and fage3 are different, you was comparing between the burger and leather items, and if you read above what i wrote, you could realize that i didn’t mentioned anything about israaf, which means that i do AGREE to taste that kind of burger, and i will pay for it sara7a … but the way that you were comparing between thing’s (burger and leather items) is with all of my respect WRONG. that is the idea am trying to say. and about bokhoor and fage3, we pay like 1000 KD or more and its worth it ,why? beacuse first of all its a traditional thing and you could use for a long term period in special occasion’s , which means the bokhoor is something to keep, also the fage3 (ma3anna you cannot compare it with bokhoor as well cuz it is cheaper and many other reasons), we only eat it in spring, and also occasionally.and yes i heared about the 15KD burger in slider station (mo shar6 elli yedfa3 15KD for that burger, yedfa3 50KD for the other burger) big difference between 15 and 50KD! and eventually my point of view for tasting that kind of burger is that am going to pay for it while travelling and it is one of the important and interesting things to spend money and do crazy things while travelling , and out of guriosity to taste that burger ๐Ÿ˜‰

Classy…

i didnt say u were attacking mark. I was explaining my point of view that if people kalaw il ryal gabel la yakil il burger ib7ejat israf o mayshino… well kilena mosrefeen o kahee il evidence from our own life and country.

by the way the 50 kd burger has fage3 (truffles) in it. So im guessing if one burger joint in q8 decided to get a burger in the spring with fage3 fresh from that season which is bought by a lot of money, it will be as expensive.

ok lets say unfair to compare between meat and leather. in comparision with fage3 and a burger, is it fair to say walla il fage3 traditional khalas 3adee adf3 feeh wayed even though in the end it is food o will have the same destiney as this burger

o ilee 3ndah 3adi yedfa3 15 out of curiousity for a burger ihnee in kuwait ham 3adi 3ndah yedfa3 50 our of curiousity in Thailand shino y3ni ma ifregat.

o shino faydat il bokhoor il ghalee if i keep it for 10 years hidden in the cupboard only to burn it on an occasion and poooof!!! its gone? the meaning of to keep is not to keep it unused in the cupboard, it is to keep using it over and over and over again! which i cannot say about bokhoor. It will be gone even faster than that burger and cause ur lungs damage b3d!

By the way mark. there is a burger in selfridges london that you must try if they still serve it. I think its for 85 british pounds o contains some similar items as this now famous burger of traders vic!
https://blogs.guardian.co.uk/news/archives/2006/04/10/a_sandwich_to_bankrupt_an_earl.html

if u can afford having the burger n donating the same amount of money for the poor n needy i think thats just great!. its beautiful to feel for others but dont make ur life hard!
if ur gonna have that burger regularly i would vote HELL NO! but its a once in a life time burger so go ahead treat yourself!

I doubt a burger will ever be worth $200 (in terms of the taste and all) but hey.. you’ll never know till you try.

I wonder what’ll happen if I walk up to em and tell em I’m vegetarian. If I were to go order a burger without the meat, I doubt it’ll cost any less. If it would, I wonder how much lesser- that’ll be what the meat is valued at I guess.

The choice is yours- you’ll never know till you try but hey, what’ll happen if you decide its far too yummy and crave for it ever-so-often?!

TIFILSIF !!! (SHOWOFF) !!

IL MOSHKILA ina people are saying donate this o donate that o hatha israf and 7aram !! o i bet o ill cut my hand if THEY donate SHIT !!! and like we said before u could get a hamburger in mac. for 300 fils but people in kuwait prefer to go to 9al7iya or watever and park their cars up front for 1.5 kd for the people to c THIER cars..they just could park thier car down for 100 fils… and sit at hashi or maki and pay alot of money u think because they love the food !? hell no !! because they think ina its cool o zgerti plus to c girls or boys and u knw wht happens there…kil wa7ed lebas hal polo o shorts o lazem iroo7 il 7alaq gabil il 6al3a o yig3ad ib a table 3abala bill gates..people go to villa moda and buy a t-shirt for 80 kd because maktoob 3alaiha D&G thats not israf !? they can go to topman or watever and get a t-shirt for 6 kd and its better quality than the 80 kd !!

so mark do wht ever u want with ur money..inshala u burn them..its ur money its ur choice !!

TIFILSIF II !!! (sry 3alag my laptop i couldnt continue the comment that i posted)

like i said about kuwait people here LOVE to spend money EVEN if hes broke or 3ala gad 7alah !! a9lan people take lonas to buy a car that worth over 25,000kd o bil month yebgala 100 kd or 200 cuz of the loan….ok in kuwait 3indina rich people and they buy exotic cars (3alaihom bil 3afya) bs u think they buy a ferrari cuz they love it ? they love the history of the car ? do they value what they have ? hell no !! yeshba3 minha ib 2 months and sell it !! thats us !! thats kuwait !! a9lan we dont have a decent road to drive on !! they only drive cuz its cool o people will talk about him o lama he stops at a isharah people will look at him !! ( and no ana mani mi7tar mn ely 3inda ferrari cuz i can afford one and cash !! bs why ?) people use the (ultra super) where they could just use the 59oo9i petrol !! o hatha wayhi itha they know whts the difference between ultra super and the 59oo9i !! just because its expinsive they want it !! in kuwait ayshay expensive we want it even if we dont have the money…i knw i went off the topic bs im really pissed of mn ely ga3id i9eer kuwait !!

bs i wanted to show u whts israf !!!!

I’d say don’t, but I’m curious about how it tastes…

I need to become a farmer and sell those beefs they’re using… I’ll become rich I tell yoh!

Mark, you should have included another option :

1- Yes
2- No
3- Who gives the Shit

Sorry man but I got this urge to say it ๐Ÿ˜›

IF U HAVE MONEY ! SIMPLY DO IT !!
if u neeed this money for other things ! leave it for godsake ! its a burger !! w eza 9abak eshal bt9eeer disaster

Hey Mark!

As someone who recently moved to Kuwait, I’ve been lurking around (in a completely non-creepy way, promise, lol) & reading your blog since I heard about it but never felt the need to make myself known until now…I have to say props to you for donating that money (whether or not you end up eating that burger)…It’s a great move on your part and hopefully one that will inspire others to do the same… ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers!

I think it’s obvious. No hamburger is worth KD55. Unfortunately we live in a world where some people are stupid enough to do anything. In Kuwait we have more than our share of these superficial, frivolous people. What ever happened to common sense? Over-indulgence and extravagence when other people are struggling to survive is socially irresponsible. I can’t believe that as human beings we even need to be reminded of this!

my only comment is that the aroma of the truffles and foie gras might contrast with that of the meat. while they are expensive items and great in their own rights, i’d rather have a foie gras and truffle omelette cause they go better with eggs than with meat. it would be like the liberachi of food. this is a technical, rather than a moral, issue.

Dude,

It’s not like you’re gonna eat it everyday/week. I don’t know why people are making a fuss.

I’m a total food-maniac, especially such food. Go ahead try it, and I’m waiting to read about the detailed feedback, and pictures !

Marc..

Enjoy half the sandwich and doggy bag the rest and send it for a lab test. Identify actual nutrients and chemicals levels… what if you’re paying KWD50 for an all expensive heart attack…blood pressure.. matsu-cow samurai disease…. (Don’t google it… i made it up!!!)

Watch out dude!

couple days ago me and two friends ate sushi and the total ended up being almost 100KD…… DO IT!!!

Daddys Girl… wlla i have many points to talk about fage3 and bokhoor and bla bla bla and i feel like i really cannot do this through the blog chatting cuz this will never end! it has to be live lool … anyway everyone has a point of view and we should respect that ๐Ÿ™‚ btw.. i do

Classy…

My husband always says lola ikhtelaf il athwaq la barat il sola3 o il nass athwaq … and as you said every body has a point of view … if we didnt have different points of view then life as we know it would be the same ๐Ÿ™‚

There are many things that are overpriced in the world for the wrong reasons. I think you should call this one out for what it is, and leave some other fool to try it.
Feeding children aside, if you want to argue “personal experience,” put the money towards a trip to France where the truffles will be better! As for fois gras, well I’ll leave you to make your own decision if/once you know how it’s made ๐Ÿ™‚
Awsome blog mate,
