Radio Controlled Planes

I was in Bnaider Mina Abdullah today with some friends when we decided to pass by the radio controlled planes runway. Its a small runway in Bnaider Mina Abdullah built by some hobbyist who use it to fly their radio controlled jets. You need to see and hear the planes in action because they’re just amazing. They’re extremely realistic and the flybys are incredible. [YouTube]

Update: Here is another video of a flyby [YouTube]

And here is another video of a landing. [YouTube]

Hit there!
Im in a visit here im staying at salmiya and I was wondering if anyone can lead me to hobby stores that sell flybarless align helicopters nearby.

I’ve been to a couple of stores at Ali AbdelWahab complex but the only store that sells align have only the bared versions.

Thanks a lot

its cool .. just a way of spending money for the people who dont know what to do with it .. 🙂

by the way how much it cost ?

Its not THAT expensive. I mean you can get a regular RC plane for like under KD200, but if you want a jet its probably around KD2,000 but not really sure.

Just shows how damn friendly and open Kuwait is when it comes to tech hobbies and aviation.

If you get caught with an RC planes, walkie talkies, or long-range wireless house phones in Bahrain your screwed!

Wifi:

It is a hobby and much more fun than spending that much money in a month at Starbucks 😛

My 23 year-old nephew started learning how to fly RC airplanes about 18 months ago. He told me he started with cheap airplanes and crashed about 3 of them before getting the hang of it. He is now buying more expensive airplanes. He also uses RC airplanes flight simulator where you use connect a remote to your computer to get better feeling. He even taped his cell phone to the airplane and recorded some video LOL

Ultra propelled RC isn’t as exciting as RC Glider kites. I got into that some time back and it really is great. The birds do cost a bit more (round 2K USD) but totally worth it.

Tony, it’s the long range cordless house phones which they confiscate off you at the airport. They check it’s range & the frequency it uses before they release it.

Wifi is technically illegal without first applying for a “Wifi licence” but they have never enforced this yet.

They want the entire country to apply for Wifi licences.. crazy..

BoBader ..

who spends 200 kd a month in starbucks ?!

I am not aganist the hobby .. i am saying its just TOO expensive for ordinary people .

wifi: it depends how you look at it. Majority of decent bicycles cost around KD200 so if someone is looking for a hobby he might consider an RC plane over riding.

Also some people buy jetskis or motorbikes as a hobby. Those cost upwards of KD2,000 and if you look at it in that way RC jets cost around as much and are also just another hobby.

wi-fi: I didn’t say it was a sport, i said HOBBY

Seattley: supposedly one of the planes that was there yesterday cost 15,000 but we didnt see it fly. its supposed to be super fast

Most countries post 9/11 have made it mandatory to obtain relevant paper work and clearance to take up this hobby! I guess Bahrain is just being careful.
In the US there are some state stipulations for usage of such “toy / model planes”. Cant fly beyond a certain height and not to be anywhere close to a 15 mile radius of any airport or defense facility.
@ Nobu – you can get them at any of the shops opposite Sahala Motors in Kuwait City.

Mark: I was at the location mentioned above buying some quart fuel for my nitro traxss truck and I did see a big a$$ KWD2000 airplane being sold by an Asian… Now you may call it crass or crap or junk, thats irrelevant… was just trying to help Nobu out. Cheers… am enjoying my drink… lol.. and you may wanna even check out hobbytron; they have some amazing deals on such hobbies and spares.

its in mina abdulla adjacent to the sultan center(tsc express)<<the one in arjan…anyways it just got demolished by the baladeyah!!

mark: Good to know…i thought it was cool having something like that in kuwait 🙂 apparently it was a esha3ah!

All,
