Once a year Arabian Business releases a list of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Arab Women” and every year I go through the list and find all the Kuwaiti women and list them on the blog. This year the list seems to the be the smallest since I started posting them with only 5 Kuwaiti women making the list and all at lower slots than the previous year. Shaikha Al Bahar whom back in 2012 was in #8 dropped to #21 last year and is currently at #31. This years leader in my most powerful Kuwaiti women list is Maali Alasousi, a newcomer. I hadn’t heard of her before but according to an article on Knowledge@Wharton, “Maali Alasousi gave up a comfortable life in Kuwait to live in Yemen, dedicating herself to developing social programs in a country that is among the most impoverished in the world”.
Below is this years list of most powerful Kuwaiti women with their 2014 ranking in between parentheses:
25- Maali Alasousi (new)
31- Shaikha Al Bahar (21)
46- Rasha Al Roumi (43)
51- Maha Al Ghunaim (27)
94- Sara Akbar (67)

We did a feature on Maali way back in 2011 under our “Voice for Success” program. You can chk out the video here: https://www.socialprograms.envearth.com/voice-for-success-maali-al-asousi/

Maali Alasousi
Finally a list that recognizes women contributing to society instead of being recognized for their bank balance or family name! That’s +1 for women’s empowerment!
The most powerful woman in Kuwait is the McDonald’s lady.
How come no women from Bahrain and Oman made the list?
emirati women are disproportionately over-represented. It’s not a coincidence coming from Arabian Business
In general, any media, business bard, business, company etc that caries next to it titles such as Arabian, MENA, GCC, Middle East etc are bogus!
Mainly, these titles are tied to businesses / people based in Dubai, with a bunch of people sitting down behind a computer and dictate how 410 million Middle Eastern should look like from their perspective. it’s not a coincidence as it comes back to the Dubai brand and attitude “know it all, have it all”, bunch of crap if u ask me.
Its really my honor to be posted on this website and thank you to all people, organization and other who supported humanity effort and projects.
Love and Peace
Maali Alasousi
