Kuwait plans to enforce ban on smoking inside vehicles

Kuwait’s General Traffic Department (GTD) is reportedly considering enforcing the law that bans motorists smoking inside their vehicles while driving.

The decision is part of the ministry’s strategy to curb road accidents, with smoking while driving considered one of the major causes of accidents in Kuwait, Al-Seyassah Daily reported.

This sounds like a lame April Fools joke. [Link]

they go from one extreme to the other. first they ignore/ not enforce laws completely, then they turn 180 degrees to try to enforce laws that are not enforceable/ impractical

This made me laugh! They don’t and can’t enforce basic rules of the road. The aggression on roads is out of control. The total disregard for safety is the main cause of accidents not smoking. Just ridiculous!

Hmmm. Can someone tell me if anyone got fined for using his Mobile phone while driving or if you know of any incident?

Right, real enforcement.

Ban on using mobile phones while driving should be the first one to be strictly enforced. It annoys me to no end when cars in front of you are more interested in texting and phone calls rather than paying attention to driving. Just this morning there was this guy who was moving at a snail’s pace in front of me at a traffic signal. When I got a chance to overtake him, I saw that instead of looking ahead he had his head bent over his mobile. People do this in busy streets, highways, in the presence of the police no matter what. Ahhhh so frustrating.

They can’t even/don’t even enforce the no-smoking rules in malls, so what faith can we have they’ll enforce this?

That’s a rhetorical question, by the way….

The non-enforcement of texting/talking on the mobile has resulted in a population that has become expert at this activity.
I have seen people driving, taking u-
turn, and even overtaking, while their eyes are fixed on the phone.

Smoking is the least of anyone’s worries as it does not require the driver to take their eyes off the road after lighting up – unless he’s inept at trashing ash and starting a fire!

Mobile usage is what needs to be tracked and banned. Every day I see my life and the lives of all those on the roads in increasing danger with drivers on their phones paying no attention to the cars in front. I had a lady in a nice caddy moving onto my track yesterday morning and they spun sharply when I honked. I go near the car and she was actually using both her hands to manage two mobiles at the same time and correcting her steering (I assume) everytime someone honked!

It has really pissed me off that people continue to smoke while waiting to go sit at the movie theaters especially at Avenues when it supposed to be smoke free now. 360, on the other hand, still allows smoking but at least be banned in the congested theater area.

Smoking!! Really!! Funniest thing I saw this week in Avenues (old Avenues) was a smokers spot, kinda like the ones they have in airports except it was a bit larger than a telephone booth & the kicker….doors were wide open😂. I know my comment isn’t relevant to the traffic problem but I wasn’t even going to come near that one!
