Friday Gathering by Faisal Al Fouzan

fridaygather

“Friday Gathering Project“ is an in-depth exploration of the living conditions of low-income migrant workers in their humble accommodations in Kuwait, bordering on high-end neighborhoods and landmark architecture. These workers are living on the margins of society though they play a key role in shaping and maintaining its physical environment.

I love Faisal’s work, check out the photos from this project on his website [Here]

Thanks kutsuit

A typical discussion on such topics:

Expat: Kuwait government must create better housing facilities and increase salaries for expats. We are playing an important role in Kuwait at all low level jobs and we should not be ignored.

Citizen: Go back to your dirty country from where you came. In Kuwait you are already getting much more than what you deserve. So dont complain.

Both expats and the government are at fault for this to happen. First, the government is extremely lazy and ignorant in tackling or preventing these issues to happen. Instead, they choose to treat these workers as sub-human. Second, some (AGAIN SOME NOT ALL OR EVEN MOST *READ*) are not sanitary-conscious, lazy or just both combined. I understand that these workers get underpaid in this expensive country (again high cost of living could’ve been solved but the government is bending to merchants etc.) but you can be clean make it so your place of living looks at least presentable. Finally, everyone, both Kuwaitis and expatriates need to understand that they shouldn’t just blame one side of the people at fault, Instead all should work together into solving and preventing more problems of happening. (We can just dream…)
