Abu Dhabi buys stake in UFC

This is cool news. Abu Dhabi has bought a 10% stake in the UFC. Bad news though, UFC 112 might not be held in Abu Dhabi since they don’t have an arena to hold the fights in yet. They’re going to build one, but April seems too close a date for it to be completed. [YouTube]

Thanks heema!

if you think about it…that’s a pretty good investment. Another similar good kind of investment would be in the sports-entertainment business and I’m talking TNA….brother! TNA is going to be a major competition to the WWE in the future.

Abu Dhabi has been actively acquiring different targets such as Virgin Galactic, the Carlyle Group, AMD, the Chrysler Building, and most recently Hyatt Hotels, among others. They manage the largest Sovereign Wealth Fund in the world with around $700 billions.

I guess one should look at the acquisition of a 10% stake in UFC not as a potentially lucrative “financial” decision, but as the thousand mile road Abu Dhabi is taking to transform itself into a lively regional entertainment hub filled with events and recreations. Abu Dhabi is “the” up & coming entertainment destination with their Rihanna & Beyonce concerts among other events
