As promised, here is the breakdown of current DSL speeds/prices (as of InfoConnect 2008):
If you are looking speeds of 2mb or higher .. you can’t beat Qnets pricing (infoconnect special). And in addition to a free wireless router you also get a scratch (instant prize) and raffle (Mini) coupons for every 20kd spent. I upgraded my connection to 4mb and ‘won’ a extra couple of weeks on my subscription through the scratch coupons.
For those interested in speeds of 1mb or lower; Zajil is the clear choice with their aggressive pricing structure with 1mb at 300 KWD (almost 1/3 the price of last year).
Apparently, there is a new DSL company called Wasel, which has recently been placing advertisements in the newspapers. And while they might be advertising offering DSL, they don’t have a booth at InfoConnect or even a website; We don’t have much information on their offers.

as usual FT is the most expensive….
How about Wataniya’s internet ? 🙂
as usual FT is the most expensive…
And the worst performing….
Thanks for the info, K. I was just wondering, how much upload does Qnet give with 4MB connection?
I didn’t include Wataniya/Zain in the listings, since their HSDPA service’s speed and reliability can vary highly between locations and times, it wouldn’t be a proper cost/price comparison.
MX5:
Qnet has a 4:1 ratio .. On a 4mb connection I would expect anywhere between 80 – 120 KBps .
Thanks Again
How reliable is Zajil? Anyone experienced them before?
K. did you check the offer Wnet are giving for renewing the contract..?? i really dont feel like driving all the way there just to get disappointed.. also thanks for the list.. bless you..
:: Qnet has a 4:1 ratio .. On a 4mb connection I would expect anywhere between 80 – 120 KBps . !!!!
All i can say is eGO for EVER !
Zorbon:
They provide links to Banks, Stock Markets and Businesses .. as reliable as you can get in Kuwait.
steve_leb:
You would be better off calling their helpdesk (121) your renewal options .. it can vary from person to person.
Frankom:
Hehe.. eGO might be fast but is it stable? 😉
Ok I am confused, if I want 1 MB, should I remain with Qnet or switch to Zajel, or even go to another provider?
I have same question as Purgatory ? and another question ,is the telephone line can transfare more than 1 Mp ?is worth it to have 2 M instead of 1 M ?
Purgatory:
Switch to Zajil .. you will save 70kd.
Q8rose:
Clean telephone lines can handle up to 8mb .. but depending on line quality and distance it can be much lower. If you aren’t sure of the line quality; call up your ISP and ask them to do a line test.
Ok, anyone have experience with Zajil and their quality of service and reliability?
K, you have contradicted yourself when you said “2mb or higher” while in the next paragraph you said “2mb or lower”; 2mb should be exclusive to either one of them.
I know you didn’t mean it =p
how much can Old telephone lines support 🙂
on zajil’s site i saw an offer showing KD 8 = 24mbps
is it KD8/month? I am a bit confused
Frankom :
EGO is not suitable for heavy torrent downloads .. if you are subscribed to the Super Unlimited .. the 7.2Mbps / 27 KD .. it is very fast but only till your total downloads reach 30GB in any month .. then it goes VERY VERY SLOW for the whole next month … yeah you still have to pay the 27 KDs for a speed as slow as a dial up as a punishment for your over downloading .. they call it ( a fair usage policy ) .. !!!!
Unlimited .. HUH !!!
Actually once you hit 30Gb your speed drops from 7.2Mbps to 384kb which is faster then a 256kb dsl connection.
Purgatory, zajil has the best service in Kuwait. they give 1:1 upload/download.
Mark:
I’ve tried it .. it looks like 384kb .. but when it takes almost 5 min to open any page for the whole month .. that is slow …
I have question :
what is the prices of dsl for business ?
you will find it like this for 64kbps 500 K.D and above .
this is why we are third world . if i am small business i cant afford internet connection ?!
you know why ! i ask them why many times ! they said laws in MOC . it is not good . this is why most of the business sites are outside kuwait hosted or in another words hosting sites outside kuwait cheaper .
this is why when the connection to outside is slow most of the internet browsing will get slow because all the sites is outside ??!!!
i remember that google site when it was started it was hosted in a home garage . why people here in kuwait hosting always outside ?!
I’m paying 144KD/year for 6MB in the US, Kuwait internet prices!!
Xiphoid:
And I am paying 9$ for a tank of gas .. we can play this game all day.
Purgatory – I signed up for Zajil / KEMS at last year’s InfoConnect. My personal experience has been excellent. As K mentioned, a number of major companies use them (along with my bank) and other than the recent incident affecting all ISPs my work and home experience has bene fantastic. Just one tip (from my personal experience) is not to use the (Zoom?) DSL Modem / Router they give you free as part of signing up for 1 year. I personally found it to be unreliable and instead bought a Netgear. The Zajil / KEMS Service + Netgear hardware has been great for me. Best of luck choosing your ISP and try not to get caught up in the Qualitynet marketing. 🙂
lol
I just called KEMS…
First…their agent is very well spoken. I was truly surprised.
Now, their offers, as you can see above, are pretty nice, especially if you are going below the 2MB mark.
As for the 8=24. When you subscribe to 256DSL, they say it is approx 8 KD/month. Along with your DSL line, you get WIFI access in several hotspots, with speed upto 24Mbps.
They have a 5KD admin charge for first time customers.
How is “When is Britney going to Die?” a related topic? 😛
Zorbon:
As Shanneh mentioned, I also had issues with the modem I was given, switch to a descent netgear/linksys and your set. At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with KEMS
Britney dieing is in direct correlation with our internet speeds .. dwindling costs will eventually lead to unsupported speeds. (actually its a auto-plugin .. I have no idea what they have to do with each other either).
Purgatory:
I am using Zajil since 1997.
Started at kd45 student account, 65 individual account and kd95 commercial account (all dial_up)
Telephone dial_up was always kd 10 per month
Cost in 2007 – ADSL 256 Kbps = kd 120/year, d/load max 22 Kbps
HotSpots is useless – they practically do not exist
Reliability: excellent – never had a down
K how can you compare $9 gas with 144 KD internet?
That’s a bit thick – especially as you were saying it’s acceptable to pay 20% for items purchased in Kuwait vs items ordered over the internet.
If you’re going to compare and make comparisons – at least make it apples with apples. Not apples with cars.
Ffs.
What about the downloads? (3 & 4mbps) are they limited for those prices? or is it unlimited?
Xiphoid:
And I am paying 9$ for a tank of gas .. we can play this game all day.
K, you rock man! Witty thinking! Even though I dont agree that throwing oil at someone’s face is the way to hide where we lag but still, witty thinking!
I am having trouble getting a connection higher than 512k due to the low quality of my line (not the internal wiring, the actual cable coming from the exchange to my house) does anyone know ANY POSSIBLE way to get over this problem? I really wanna go for 1mb!
thnx
Stafa i have the same issue although at a higher speed. I was supposed to get 2MB but the highest my line can handle is 1.5. I guess I am lucky its not maxed out at 512.
crocko rock:
I am comparing services to services; e.g. telephone, television, electricity, water and transportation (gasoline). These are items which the majority of use and pay for on a monthly basis.
When you break down the monthly cost of services (internet/transportation) .. you realize that its comparable, if not cheaper, in Kuwait.
In regards to my comment in the other post about not paying more than 20% markup .. I am referring to goods which can be obtained online and sent to Kuwait.
And, unless you have found a way in which I can purchase ‘faster internet’ or ‘transportation to work’ from Amazon at a lower price .. my comment stands.
stafa:
Beg the MOC ..
what sucks more is that I renewed my connection yesterday and I got 3 months of 1mb, now they’re looking into it to see what they can do.
K, what do u mean beg the MOC? what can they do about it? and what can I do from my side?
US Crashes Internet In Middle East After Saudi Threat, Russia Responds With Air Forces
By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers
https://www.fourwinds10.com/siterun_data/media/internet/news.php?q=1202097708
Reports circulating in the Kremlin today are painting a grim picture of just how desperate US War Leaders have become as their economy continues its freefall towards total bankruptcy by their crashing of Global Internet access for the Middle East’s banking centers in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Iran, UAR, Turkey and Kuwait.
These reports state that the Americans became ‘enraged’ this past week when the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) rejected US demands for an immediate increase in oil production.
Moscow’s actions against the West, in the severing by the United States of these cables, was swift as President Putin ordered Russian Air Force Fighters and Bombers to take immediate action to protect the Russian Nations vital undersea cables in the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans.
To some of the Russian Air Force assets used we can read as reported by the Reuters News Service article titled “Russia sends bombers, fighters to Atlantic, Arctic”, and which says:
“Air force pilots will carry out practice in the areas involving reconnaissance, missile-bombing attacks on a navy attack force of a hypothetical enemy, air-to-air combat and refuelling and patrolling,” an air force spokesman said. The bomber group included two Tupolev Tu-160 strategic bombers, codenamed “Blackjack” by NATO, two turbo-prop Tu-95 “Bear” strategic bombers, and eight Tu-22 “Blinder” bombers. MiG-31 and Su-27 fighters were also sent to the region.”
K, sorry, but your long winded explanation wont cut it. You are clearly comparing service with service – and what the price of Living has to do with internet prices I don’t know.
Why don’t you just use the CPI of both countries if you want to expand your argument beyond these parameters.
As it stands:
USA = 6mb = 144 KD
KUWAIT = 4mb = 850 KD
I don’t think you can add much more to this equation without looking silly.
crocko rock:
While I am going to take your remarks with a grain of salt, I still feel the need to explain the concept to you once again .. The original poster (xiphoid) was bragging about cheap internet. I am bragging about cheap gasoline. (since the common factor is Location).
well even thoue zajil lower in price for 256 and 512, I do prefer to go with Qnet for the home and for my office, I have very very bad expreiance with this F**kin zajil, am with qnet
haha loved the “we’re paying $9 for gas here” post haha.
my W-Net Aircard subscription expired…
im getting UN 512k … since i’ve heard MANY ppl switching to UN.
if someone has something else to offer before i get this…do so now.
and Zajil sounds good too for some reason though not many ppl use it.
How much upload does Qnet give with the 4mb connection?
guys
need help here
well, since you guys mentioned Ego and everything about the 30Gb cap for downloads, is this the same for Wnet?? man, I’ve been with them since like last october and I do get the feeling that this is what I”m getting for donwloading a relative amount of 10+Gb during the month or more even. Meanwhile, I do see a lot of speed swings and drops that I don’t get and makes me feel crazy. Does the condition of Ego apply to Wnet?? nobody at Wataniya knows shit (only one dude I met there at technical support and he’s a very cool guy) about technical stuff that we’re talking about.
new ISP company is tawasultele dot com ,it’s for corporations only not for home users.
regards
I think and know that all internet providers in Kuwait are Ali Babas. Poor servise, unreliable and mony wize extreamly expensive and black holed.they just take your mony and bust your pocket unsivilized behavior.
in the US and ather countries 8 MB and real speed for $ 25 a month any day itruption the give you one week free or your mony back.. Good havens.
I have the same problem as Stafa and I tried contacting MOC but no luck then I went with W-Net but I’m still not satisfied since I need 4mb connection what can I say about MOC, what a lousy Ministry a real Lousy, I mean Kuwait is very big as whole Africa so they can’t fix areas copper lines, wake up! we are here! hello! get off your chairs it’s been 3 years I am facing same problem in Adan area my highest reached connection is 786k, I have to sell my home apparently and go to Janub AlSurra, just for their new fiber optic lines!!
I mean how many loyal subscribers are in Mubarrak Alkabir we are a whole nation in Mubarak Alkabir, what we need is a telephone service company take over the MOC crap, and deliver real services!
