There is an instagram account that sells VHS and Betamax players here in Kuwait but he’s selling the Betamax ones for around KD50. I just have this one cassette I want to see whats on it so I really don’t want to buy a whole player just to do that. So if any reader by odd chance has a Betamax player, please let me know!

I found a box of betamex and vhs tapes at home! I have the same problem as you … no player … unless there is one hidden away in some storage box!
Look for it! I have an RCA/S-Video to USB digital converter so if you find a player you can then digitize your videos as well.
Hmmm … 5 Storage rooms to search and that’s just the house! I’d need an army of OCD affected people to search, organize and label.

I think I have one but not sure if it plays betamax. I’ll let you know.
If its a VHS player it won’t. Betamax is a different format, different size.

Rule in life, always watch a film on the original format it was released in. Case in point, try watching ET on blu Ray vs. VHS. I’ve got over a 100 80’s classics on VHS big box ex-rental (ET, Rocky, Friday 13th, Elm Street etc..) from the UK and a collection of Betamax originals and laserdiscs.
I’ve got a Betamax player, VHS player, Laserdiac player, Mini disc, Twin Cassette deck all wired up to a flatscreen. I’ve also got a VHS player, laserdisc player wired up to a projector.
I’ve been collecting for years. All the 80’s classics on VHS Big Box ex-rental and loads of Betamax and Laserdiscs. Friday 13th, Elm St., Texas, Karate Kid, Police Academy, Conan, Rocky, Nerds, Vacatiion, Jaws etc .. the list is endless. Got most of the 80’s games too! Walkmans, phones, Atari, handhelds, galaxy etc.. the site, sound and smell take me way back to childhood in an instant.
I’ve got a beta max player/ recorder as well in storage.

That’s the going rate on eBay for a player. It’s worth it though, the films are rising in value. Nothing beats watching a film in the original format, cracklings sound and all!
