Interesting Gazelle Club Post

This was published on the Gazelle Club Facebook group and I knew I had to share it here.

Jay Rizzo shown in the first picture with his sister outside one of the Chalets at Gazelle Club, returned later as part of the US Marines who liberated Kuwait in 1991.

Gazelle Club was a very popular beach resort in Kuwait back in the 60s and up until the 1990 Gulf War. During the Gulf War the resort was badly damaged and it was never rebuilt again. You can find more posts about the club by clicking here.

That’s really cool

You know what would be amazing to discover? How the gaming scene was back in the 90’s, particularly how things looked in Rehab mall. I wish someone documented that mall back in the day

The gaming scene was originally in White Tower (Burj al Abyad) in Salmiya next to Marina Mall. It then moved to Rehab but I’d be interested to know why and how that happened.

Interesting, I never knew that. I was probably too young at that time when it happened

There is an incredible book I recommend you check out (its on iBooks to), called “The Game Console”. It is a photographic history of pretty much every single video game console ever made, and the level of details is fantastic

Born in 78 here, so my video game life started with the Coleco (although neighbors had the Atari). So by the time I was in high school, Burj Alabyad was where you’d go to play street fighter with other players and play other arcades. To buy video games there were a couple of stores near my place which were popular. Old schoolers will remember one having a neogeo on display in the window while the other had a 3DO. Good old days 😅
