Pictures from Sunshine School – Early 80s

sunshine

I was rummaging through some boxes and found some photos of when I was in Sunshine School back in the early 80s. For those of you who don’t know, the British School of Kuwait (BSK) used to be called Sunshine School before the 1990 invasion. Sunshine School originally started off as a nursery and then moved to the campus showing in the pictures below (except for the one with the Kids R Us bag). After that they moved to another campus (the picture with the Kids R Us bag) and then the invasion happened. After the invasion they moved to their current location and renamed themselves to BSK. My class was the last class to graduate from Sunshine School (Junior 4). They didn’t have a high school back then, Junior 4 was their highest grade. Anyway check out the photos below:

That picture of the kids eating ice cream looks cute! Is that a McDonald’s ? Even though I was born well after all this , it’s quite amazing to see photos like this 😀

It’s always good to see pictures from the old days, Mark. I like how the homes/buildings from the 70’s-80’s looked back then. Not to mention it not being so crowded!

Just Wondering which House were you in when you studied over there. I know that it’s irrelevant and you probably won’t remember since its been ages that you studied over there. Atleast the house that were there previous to the Gulf War since I only studied over there at that time then had to return to my country due to the war and all. I used to be in Jahra.

I still remember that because at that time I was living in Salmiyah and the teacher announced out of the blue that I was in Jahra. Now the concept of House Teams was totally new to me and had no idea what she was talking about and told her “But I live in Salmiyah” and she goes and says “No you are in Jahra” Since I really had no idea of what was going on and just so that the class would continue I agreed quietly still wondering what was going on. Only when I went home and told my mother what happened she explained about House Teams and all and that it had nothing to do with where we lived. 🙂

Oh and just saying that even after the Gulf War ended for sometime they remained in their last location and then they moved somewhere else and then it was to their present location. Then again the movement bit I am not so sure since I might be confusing schools since I never rejoined after the invasion much to my pity. It staying at the same location for some time I recall as a fact since I got to meet one of my old teachers purely by chance on that visit. 🙂

Do you have any more pictures of your time over there. I wish I had some of mine saved but had to leave them all behind in the war. 🙁

Can’t believe my eyes. The kids eating ice cream were my classmates. I think I might be able to recognize most of them and can even name a few. I am certain the boy at the table on the right sitting on the left seat near the window is Wasim. Ahmad Magharbel (from Alexandria in Egypt) on the right seat (near the window) and if I’m not mistaken, Marwan (from Cairo Egypt) next to him (far right). I believe the girl standing furthest back is Rima!
If any of you guys see this then please get in touch. I am not in the picture but if you can remember a boy named Omar with light brown hair, that’s me!!

Hi everyone
Good to see a site dedicated to Sunshine school, back in the old days. Wondering if anyone knows Mr Frederick? He was the classteacher for Grade 2, a Scottish chap.
