Back in July I posted about the steps needed to import a classic car. I’m going to be documenting the process so figured I’d post about the first issue that has come up.
My car arrives this week and everything was going smoothly until it came to getting a temporary import license. My friend who I’m importing the car under his name went to get a temporary import license and his request got rejected.
Turns out he thought he had imported his last car over 2 years ago but instead it turned out he had imported it 1 year and 9 months ago. If you recall I posted that a Kuwaiti can import a classic car once every 2 years so now he can’t import this one under his name. The only way he can is by getting an exception which supposedly is very difficult to get.
So now he needs to do something called a “tanazool” where basically he has the put the car under another persons name. A complicated process that will delay the release of the car from the port by up to 3 weeks. Hopefully that process will go smoothly at least.

Mark, please check how many free days you are getting on the shipping line, ( Most lines give you 14 days free time at POD ) however it might vary so try to get the “Tanazol” done ASAP to avoid any Line & Port detentions.
Goodluck!!
I was told it’s 10 days free and then 20-60kd a day so this could potentially cost me like 600kd 😔
all the best
Hey Mark how can i get in contact with you?
Which Shipping Line are you using?
Ocean Network Express
Let your Freight forwarder (TransCrate) Ask for additional free time from the Agent in Kuwait which I believe is GAC for ONE Line, Or call GAC directly and give them the BL number and ask for your free time period, with the detention charges, NO WAY is it 20-60KD per day after the free time is over, it starts after the free time is over for the 1st week 5-9 KD per day for a 20ft CNT and then after the 1st week is over they increase the amount to 15-17 and so on and so forth, But not 20-60 after the first week.
Tanazol – sounds like some powerful mutant Panadol
LOL
panadol that helps with congestion “tanazoooool”
See if you can get the B/L changed from the shipper to the new friend name, there will be a BL changing cost but its worth a try, then the new friend can ask for import permission without the tanazul
It took over 2 months to get the car registered so having all the paperwork changed without the car being there and without my friend being there would be close to impossible I think
Some friend that!
😅
Hey Mark!
Who is handling your paperwork once the container arrived to the port? Is it mandoob or are you doing everything yourself?
Any idea how long it would usually take to get the car from the day it arrives at the port if your car was not classic but a normal car and if the importer was Kuwaiti?
Thanks!
The transportation company is handling everything for me.
I’m guessing btw it takes just a few days since that’s how long it took my friends car
