Generally, when you travel you can rent and drive cars with just your regular Kuwaiti license. But, back when the driving license was just in Arabic, you needed to get an international driving license. Not really sure which country nowadays won’t accept your Kuwaiti license, but in case you need to get an international one you can now do so online.
Price is KD10 for the license and you then have the option to pick it up yourself or have it delivered to you for an additional KD3.
Thanks Fahed

This is perfect! I was just asking about this the other day!
Thanks Fahed
Just did mine 2 days ago
They have branch in hawalli now that i did not know about it
I had one problem in madrid they wanted the international license
Where is the hawalli branch?
This is stale news. It has been operational since a year now. I did mine online last May.
Whats stale for some might be fresh for others. Have a nice day π
Itβs only stale if you knew about it…
Or because *you* didnt? π
Japan needs International driving license even for go karts
I got myself an international driving license specifically for that purpose, but apparently the Go Kart thing in Tokyo didnt accept international licenses issued from kuwait, did you actually give it a try? :I
the go-kart on Tokyo’s roads dressed in Mario/others (“real-life” mario kart) accepted my international license issued from Kuwait. normal karts within closed circuits do not require any license.
We cant drive cars in japan using International driving license issued from Kuwait.
correct me if im wrong
Thanks for sharing.
On a side note, there’s a typo in the second section title (DETIALS instead of DETAILS).
Cheers.
Last summer Hertz Madrid, Spain did not accept my Kuwaiti Driver’s License and they require an international license.
Thanks for letting me know, I’m heading to the states in about a month and I was wondering whether I should get one or not to rent a car.
same with me
madrid
Hertz are very strict and they always ask for the international license everywhere I’ve rented with them
i wish they would get this done for local driving permits. i dont know why i am just having a bad experience with the traffic department.
last month i went to the muroor to renew my motorbike license, and they lost it behind the counter and told me to get a paper from the police station that i lost it and give it to them to issue another one. i was like WOW its conveniently framed to their convenience.
So this month when i needed to renew my car drivers license i went to this service called khadamat express. for 10kd extra, they do all the running around for you.
my license was expiring today so i went around 20 days prior and they said no the muroor wont accept renewals unless its a week to expiry. so i went in on thursday and they said come on sunday because they werent going to accept the license then.
sunday i go and they accept it and then tell me that it will take min.4 days. FML my license expires in 3 days why do i have to wait 4 days. and their reaction. THAYAB.. MAASHI.. ok vll call you in 4 days.
i rang them up 3 times already today. but its ramadan. they have no clue what work they are doing.
I REALLY HOPE I GET MY LICENSE RENEWED IN TIME WITHOUT THE HASSLE OF RUNNING AROUND TO THE MURORR
With the new Kuwaiti license, I was able to rent a car through Sixt & Enterprise in Wales, Scotland, England and Cyprus. But last month I tried renting a motorcycle in Greece and they did not accept my Kuwaiti motorbike license.
According to Greeks, the country has enforced new laws at the peak of the Brexit debates, that includes only accepting EU licenses, and everyone else, including the Brits, must provide an international license π
Khadamat Express is overrated . They used to be good at one point and they had a pretty good turn around time as well. Now a days they are all about the money and their service has also taken a nose dive.
The part of renewing one week prior to expiry is pure BS. I just renewed my wife’s licence which was expiring on June 10 at the Farwaniya Traffic Department.last week .
The only shitty part of doing it your self is the endless waiting in line. Ladies though have an opportunity to go right in and take a seat. The men have to line up and wait outside the department. Renewals start in the afternoon at 2.00 PM and the last application they accept is at 04.00 PM, At least this is what I observed while I was there.
They have some sort of system in place where at 2 PM an official from the department comes out starts giving out the men who are waiting in line token numbers I believe they stop giving numbers after 3,30 or 4 PM. This is because they want to be done by the 5 PM close time during Ramadan.
For ladies there are no numbers they just collect the applications and ask them to have a seat. In our case since I was with my wife so we didn’t need to take a number and I got to sit with her π
Once they are ready, right around 2.30 or so they start taking 10 applicants at a time. They work as a 2 man team; one collects and verifies all the documents and the other enters in the information. The ladies application is done by a separate team
After submitting applications they ask the men to go down stairs and wait in the waiting area. Once in a while they send the office boy or the official goes downstairs with a bunch of applications to tell the applicant that they have a fine or an issue they need to get sorted and come back. Same happens with the ladies. Only difference being that the fine payment area is on the same floor so the ladies dont have to go very far. Around 3.30 an officer basically goes down to the waiting area with a bunch of renewed licences and basically hand them out until they are done.
For the ladies however, there is no waiting . Its handed out as when its done and printed. For us it took all of two and half hours to be done; and with the cost for revenue stamps, charges for typing etc we paid less than 10 KWD.
The point is that it gets done; as long as you have all your paper work, are willing to be patient ,go through a little bit of crowd madness and withstand the waiting time.
No need to wait until the last minute and definitely no need to wait 04 days to get it done.
Hi “Security Advisor”. Out of curiosity what documents are required for the renewal? Mine expires on July 20 and currently on vacation. Also not sure when to return for the renewal because of conflicting time frames…
Thanks for your advise.
Best,
V.MAN
I think you were able to get it done early because it was for your wife. I would be interested to see how your own experience goes. Here is a summary of my experience.
I went to renew my license for at the jabriya muroor around 5-6 months back. So, I had to queue outside in the afternoon in a similar fashion like yours for an hour or two. When I finally reached the officer who was handing out those stupid tokens for entering the building, he took one look at the expiry date of my license, which was still 10 days away, and told me to come next week Sunday which would have been 3 days from the expiry.
When I went again after a week, stood in the line again for an hour or two, and reached the officer for the token, he took one look at my papers and said that I needed to come in the morning since I worked for a particular ministry.
When I took leave from my work the next day and went to the muroor, it was a different world altogether. No long waiting queues, no rude officers at the entrance, in fact, the whole place had a fresh Oud fragrance. Anyway, I got to reach the token machine directly and the counter after that. But alas, my salary certificate was already more than 3 months old and they told me to get a new one.
So I take another leave the next day and finally submitted all my documents with a fresh salary certificate. I have to say the process was pretty smooth and I got my license within a few hours.
By the way, the process of get your application accepted is only half the battle. You never know how long the the printing is gonna take after the submission. You have no option of leaving after the submission for running another errand and coming back for collection, because they don’t give you any receipt or proof of submission.
Nor can you just zone out and listen to some music or watch a movie, wearing noise cancelling headphones, while you are waiting there, as you need to be attentive to your name being called at any time. If you miss your name as it is called, then they will just toss your documents in a corner and forget about them, while you might just be sitting right in front of them for eternity. Just remember, for all intents and purposes, they can just claim that they never received your submission and you will be caught with no other choice except getting a paper for a lost license from the police station as well as having to get a bunch of applications retyped.
So, in summary, my advise is the following. Make sure you have had a good nights sleep, are properly fed and hydrated before you go to your respective muroor for the renewal of your license. Furthermore, ideally go on a Sunday in the week your license is about to expire and make sure that you have checked for any unpaid MOI fines before going. Also, take fresh documents and back-up copies of whatever you might need. Finally, remember it’s a right of passage that everyone has to go through so hang in there, and always remember, this too shall pass.
Hello V.MAN. .
You just need to to go to any of the authorized typing centers and and ask them to type out an application to renew your licence. You will even see them in mobile trucks parked on the dirt parking area over looking the 60( Ghazali Express) opposite the main building if you go to the Farwaniya Traffic Department
The tell you what document needs to be stamped by your sponsor and what supporting documents you need. Supporting docs are the usual copies of your civil ID, licence and copy of your company signatory authority, salary certificate , work permit etc.
If you happen to be one of the exempted professions like an engineer for example I believe you will need a NOC from Kuwait Engineers Society. For other professions; having a copy of your attested degree in hand would be advisable just in case they ask.
I’m an American that has lived in Dubai and Kuwait. I am moving back to Kuwait and my Kuwait license has expired, but my Dubai license is valid. Can I drive with a Dubai license and will I have the process all over for a Kuwait license?
If I renew it in person, is it possible to get more than 1 year?
Yes, You have the option of getting it for 2 or 3 years
Sorry, I’m replying to my own comment since it doesn’t allow me to edit.
You can get more than 1 year only if your Kuwait license doesn’t expire for 2 or 3 years at least
Can we drive with our kuwaiti license in dubai? or any gcc countries? or do u still need an international DL ?
