Ideas for my Blogs 10 Year Anniversary

10years

So my blog is coming up on its 10 year anniversary next month (February 19th) and I’ve been thinking of different ways of celebrating it. Here are some of my ideas so far:

– Hold a small private party and invite friends and blog contacts
– Hold a public meet up similar to the one I did back in 2006
– Get wasted and then drunk-post like I used to back in the old days
– Shutdown the blog permanently and move to Cape Town

Does anyone have better ideas? Here is the link to my first post on 248AM [Link]

NO! Don’t shut down the blog! You have no idea how often i check your blog and forums lol! XD It has become a daily routine, if not hourly!

The Meet ups sound like fun lol. Anything besides shutting down DX

tsk tsk, use your imagination man!
Here’s my option;
Get wasted with blog contacts, drunk post a whole bunch of shit and then escape to Cape town before the deportation team can catch us πŸ™‚

-Hold a Q&A season so your readers know you better.
-Hold a public meet up when you are back?
-Share with us your best moments related to the blog since the blog started and what they meant to you :3

after 10 years of blogging
What are your best times?
Bad times?
What have you experienced?
Why don’t u remodel the blog?
Do a recapitulation for those 10 years?!
Make a contest and let one or two of ur reader win a price…

Launch 24(9)am.com from cape town. You won’t have to struggle looking for stuff to post unlike some places…

Hold a public event. Honestly your blog has had and is having a great impact on Kuwait. Make an event. I remember reading one of your first post and i automatically loved your blog.

Have to admit i wasnt into your blog when it started or even years after because it was all food and reviews of stuff. That’s fine but it appeals to a certain type of person – once the events and social commentary started I have to say I much preferred the balance. Now I dont mind reading the reviews so much cus its all balanced out quite nicely. cheers

How much inclined are you to move to CapeTown? and do you have a business there or will there be a South African 248AM version?

Do what you like to celebrate. Most of us visit the site because A) its great to know about what is happening to Kuwait. B) not many English outlets for people with English education or prefer English over Arabic.

I think you should move to Cape Town, don’t tell anyone that you moved and blog from there. (ie Expatinthecity) 10 years? That’s a long time to operate this site….. BUT remember YOU are the only source of information for expats, it’ll be a shame if you do shut down. Congrats to you….

expatandthecity was a troll with delusions

seriously, she was 45 and pretending to be married to a 20 something kuwaiti

lol

start doing video interviews. Then number of debates and the amount of trouble you could get into is probably the best way to drum up business given whats going on with blogs these days. I really miss people having an intelligent debate rather than a 30 second monologue.

How about make a short movie.
1. Change your look to who you were 10 years ago and then the idea of 248am stuck, you discussed with bunch of friends, who laugh out loud.
2. Suddenly you started to blog and you quit many times
3. You meet a cab driver and he inspire you to continue
4. You started to make friends and enemies.
5. Your enemy tries to takeover your blog and succeeds, but starts to post weird stuff
6. users tricks him to a meeting and the villan is caught
7. You get your blog back.

Man its been 10 years?! I remember when I first became addicted to the blog back in around 2009 before that it was just random visits to here. I check this blog daily, I must admit I miss the old times where you would just post random stuff that would happen with you but I still check the blog daily. I also remember winning the Kim Kardashian meet & greet competition (even though I wasn’t able to actually meet her). This blog became a part of my daily internet routine, it started when I was in school back in Kuwait and now I am in university in Lebanon and I still check it daily because it makes me feel connected to Kuwait.

I think you should do a recap video of the blog with the most interesting stuff that happened here over the years like the Benihana law suit.

problem is my memory is horrible and i wouldn’t remember 90% of the stuff thats happened on the blog. Benihana I won’t forget but I guess you need to sue me for me to remember you.

In wake of the Charlie Hebdo events and the protest over freedom of speech/press ithin you should Go do a Benihana review see if they’ve changed.. if critisim is due then do critise them fear nothing.

or

alternativiley plan a 248am raid/rampage against benihana

(this may be a very good option if you are serious about going to cape town)

No. This has little to do with ‘free speech’, Kuwait has slander laws and these laws are enforced. Kuwait has strong laws against defamation and slander, ANYONE in this country can file charges against you if they think you have insulted/slandered/offended them

This has little to do with the government and free speech, this has something to do with Kuwait’s laws being misused by sensitive people

I can file charges against you for that comment you made above if I think you’ve offended me, anyone can do the same

I was only introduced to your blog in 2007, I’ve been a fan since then as I don’t get the chance to move around Kuwait due to a physical challenge and my long working hours. Visiting 248am would alway seem like taking a tour around different parts of Kuwait until things changed after the bad restaurant review, but I am still a fan.
It would be a shame to shut the blog down but, if moving to Cape Town is your dream, then go for it and good luck. I know if I had the opportunity to move I would.
I still think you have the creativity to keep your blog going and introducing new ideas. Plus I thought you were about to start your own business!

Move to Cape Town. You may be alive but you aren’t really living unless you’ve managed to fulfill your dreams. If kuwait does that for you, wonderful, but if it’s smoke and mirrors, then maybe it’s about time to break free. Anyway, it’s never a bad time to send out some CVs.

Post a youtube video on what it feels to be 10 and designs on the road ahead.
Visiting Cape Town is one thing and moving there- lock stock and barrel is quite another. I suggest 3 words- Just hang in there! (that’s 4 actually)

My Advice is for you to Leave Kuwait and settle in Cape Town. They anyway want to reduce the expats in Kuwait. It’s time for Kuwaiti’s to do your job and start interesting blogs like yours. It’s time for you to enjoy the sun and sand of South Africa. It’s better than getting deported when you least plan for it like just in case you jumped the red light by mistake or barbecued somewhere by mistake. You did hard work for 10 years trying to publish a blog in a country which is so dry in all aspects. Now its time to go Enjoy your life outside!

And thanks for all the hard work you put in giving us readers in Kuwait something to live by through these years.

id say settle in cape town, you have given this country a lot many years and its high time you go an actually have fun and get wasted every weekend without having to worry about getting deported or having to leave your country to get wasted. Thanks tho for this blog which is so informative and whatever you do one thing dont do is shut down this blog πŸ™‚

I would say move to Cape Town because it’s your dream and after all, we have dreams that we want to accomplish. Don’t waste more time. Live your dream without looking back but don’t close your Blog since we would like to read about the experiences you will have there. You might be an inspiration to others who have been thinking of moving out but do not have the guts to do so!
LIVE YOUR DREAM πŸ™‚

Known Devil is better than unknown devil, stay back and fight the system. Your friendly Devil! You inspire so many others too.

Actually laughed out loud when I read point number 3 : )
How about someone write a book/memoirs using the history within the blog and your memories behind the event (well, the ones you can remember anyway.)
Anyway, I just wanted to say I also have your blog as one of my homepages because I find it interesting and straightforward. A rare thing in Ktown.

Go back to all those old places you’ve reviewed and blog about what’s there now, or how the area and your blogging perspective has changed. You might just find something interesting in place of FIST, haha!

Hello Mark,

Congratulations on 10 years mark.
All the best in everything you do.

How about Get monstarim to paint your building pink and black.
