Back in April I was lucky enough to get access to photograph the inside of Al Salam Palace (or Qasr Al Salam). There were rumors that Al Salam Palace was going to get demolished and I wanted to see the place before it was gone. Turns out those rumors were just rumors and instead Al Salam Palace was going to be restored and turned into a museum. I was shown renderings of the museum back then but I wasn’t allowed to share them online until now. A member of the skyscrapercity forum yesterday posted renderings of Al Salam Palace which means they’re out now and I can share them here. So if you’re interested to see how Al Salam Palace is going to look like once renovated click [Here]
Also if you want to check out the photos I took of Al Salam Palace before the renovation work began click [Here]

I would hope they would save some of the original fixtures from the past instead of gutting it and making it all modern like they did with the Amricani Museum.
They actually are – aside from the modern additions and parking space [almost all of which will be underground, might I add], the Palace itself will be redecorated the same way as its original state. I believe doors and salvageable fixtures will be restored and the main chandelier will be cleaned and fixed where necessary.
I cannot stress how happy I am that this project is finally being undertaken. The Diwan is really on a roll with this project and the Sheikh Jaber and Abdullah Cultural Centers being under construction and proceeding on schedule. I fully believe that they’ll finish all these projects by their late 2015/early 2016 forecasts.
Good for them. I hope this spurs the beginning of an amazing, positive snowball effect for our country.
Hi..is this museum open to the public as yet?
I am proud to say that I am part of in providing Mechanical design drawings for this project.
You SHOULD be proud! This is magnificent. Atchee kismet!
The main building kinda looks like the symbol for “Radioactive Hazard” when viewed from the top 🙂
Oh G-d, yeah it does! Mathai, you’ve got quite an eye!
