How to get an iPhone 3GS Officially Unlocked in Kuwait

I wasn’t planning on getting the new iPhone 3GS anytime soon since the prices in Kuwait are currently astronomical, but I was just checking Safat and noticed a Kuwaiti blogger thats living in Australia is selling the officially unlocked iPhone’s for a pretty decent price:

Unlocked iPhone 3GS 16GB
KD275 (shipping to Kuwait included)

Unlocked iPhone 3GS 32GB
KD325 (shipping to Kuwait included)

I ordered the 16GB version since I don’t really store ANY music or videos on my iPhone and the price between it and the 32GB is pretty big. I actually have the original 8GB iPhone and I have like 6.5GB free so 16GB is more than enough for me. I already sent the money to the blogger and she placed the order for my iPhone and passed me the tracking number. I should get it in around 2 weeks, can’t wait!

She will ship it directly to Kuwait? which carrier? Hope it is not the local post!

I usually ask the sellers who are outside USA to ship me to the Aramex address of USA or England as I believe it will still be cheaper and safer.

HeartBeat, I ship via Aramex, though it doesn’t have an office in Australia. It is a freight partner to Toll Priority Express, which handles the package until it reaches Dubai, and is then delivered to you from Dubai via Aramex.

I was planning on getting a locked one and then unlocking myself but apple is blocking push on iphones that have been unlocked illegally so figured why risk apple blocking other things and so decided to pay extra and get the officially unlocked. plus since I dont jailbrake my iphone and purchase all my apps legally it fits nicely 🙂

Jacqui doesn’t know what she is talking about. I already emailed and asked her. She said I could buy an Iphone 3gs from italy for cheaper but turns out thats if you know someone there who will buy it for you and then bring it with them to Kuwait.

In Italy the 16GB iPhone is KD245. If you find someone to buy it for you without them taking any profit and then pay KD25 to have them ship it to Kuwait thats KD270. But of course unless you have a friend or relative in Italy you can’t get the iPhone for KD245. The cheapest I found is KD270 WITHOUT shipping to Kuwait which means KD295.

I just bought an iPhone for 1040 australian dollar, that is for the 32GB and it is officially unlocked.. this girl is ripping you off mark, a 32GB costs her a total of 240 kds.. she’s selling it with a market up of 85 kd..

i think the 275 KD deal Mark talked about is the best so far cuz the cheapest i got was 379 KD with shipping.

Lol its simple, not the first device I unlocked. Google is your friend. All you do is plug it in, run a program, and it will jailbreak your device. Then you install something using the device itself called ultrasn0w which is the baseband unlock, meaning it unlocks the phone to be used with whatever sim card you want. And there ya go, your phone is unlocked and since its jailbroken you can do much more with it than any normal iphone can. Such as make your bottom dock hold 5 icons instead of 4. Have categories for your apps so you don’t have to swipe through 9 pages if you have alot of apps. And best of all, you can get everything you want from the appstore for free, ofcourse its illegal but hey its not like people don’t pirate crap everyday now.

This is good deal. Even on eBay it is more than 300KD. If I was in Kuwait I would pay the extra 50KD and buy it officially unlocked instead of Jailbreaking it and unlock it myself.

I know it is easy to unlock the iPhone (I already did Jailbreak and unlocked my iPhone 3G before I shipped it to my brother in Kuwait) but there is nothing like the peace of mind knowing that your iPhone will always be up to date and all features are a go.

Two things guys:

1) Apple is blocking push on illegally unlocked iphones. Thats my main reason for wanting and officially unlocked one.

2) Tethering is officially available on an unlocked iphone. It got blocked on the illegally unlocked iphones with the recent update

Also according to the apple store website in Australia:

iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS and connect to iTunes 8.2 to complete activation.

I read many news around (mainly theregister.co.uk) that the new 3GS has battery heating issue where the battery would heat excessively during high CPU or GPU utilization which could cause the cover’s color to change (to pink or brown).

The battery will die sooner than later due to the heat. Donno if it will damage internal parts along. People have reported the heat scolded them.

Mohammed, 85 ‘market’ up, what about shipping costs? I’m not doing anyone any ‘favors’ here, why bother sending them to kuwait if I’m only gonna lose money out of my own pocket? Plus you’d make a lousy business person if you’re going to even bother at all and not generate ANY profit. And my profit is MINIMAL

I think rock-a-bye is doing between 15-18% profit and I think she IS doing you a favor by providing you with at least the cheapest you can get so far! She is not Santa clause! if this price was available here you would have bought it without making all this fuss.

my next question, how do you pay her and with all respect how do you guarantee she will ship!

Sending money just like that for a non official seller without paying at least through paypal (even though I believe she is genuine) hurts your intellectual trading standards and common sense 🙂

I agree with Heartbeat, its a legitimate question. I’m sure she is gonna ship in order to maintain a seller reputation. It’s just the online, e-market mentality is quite there around the middle-east. Plus the laws dn’t protect buyers from in case of online fraud. come to think of it, there arent any real laws applicable in the middle-east in general when it come’s to the cyber-world.
Plus rock-abye is providing a service—- and no service is for free. It certainly beats the prices at electrozan.
I mean i checked their website and they are offering the 32 Gb model for 379 KD. good god what does it do, TAP DANCE.

HeartBeat: Its called trust. Plus for her it makes business sense. If she stiffs one customer then she loses credibility, no one will buy from her. Its like the guy in Italy, last year people transferred him money for the iphone and he ended up honoring the deal and sending them the iphone. This year everyone went back to the guy for the new iphones. If he had stiffed them last year no one would have gone back to him.

Oh and sorry for the double post. Mark Push works on the unofficially unlocked phones, Dev Team provided a fix and I can confirm it works. Also tethering was not blocked for the unofficially unlocked phones, it was blocked for everyone because AOL still hasn’t got it to work yet.

I got my iPhone 3GS 16 GB from ebay for KD210, it is unlocked to AT&T and i have unlocked it and everything is working fine including push and tethering

It’s an official rip off since a family member of mine got it for 290KD for the 32GB Officially Unlocked from Italy 🙂

Jacqui, please read the full post. Its KD325 for the 32GB WITH shipping to Kuwait. Your family member paid KD290 to buy it from an Apple store and they then brought it to Kuwait with them. Unless you are selling 32GB iphones for KD290 then KD325 is very reasonable.

You expect the blogger to buy iPhones and ship them to Kuwait to strangers for no profit at all? Come on be a bit logical Jacqui.

prices on electrixworld.com seems to be of an software unlocked not officially unlocked iphone. i wouldn’t order from them personally

Mark, I presume Andy already got his phone as he pinpointed the serial number to Hong Kong.

Don’t forget, if they have a supplier in HK, it’s very possible they give him special bulk prices.

They probably buy the phone for 30-40% discount already.

Why Mark, the company seems to be a tiny ‘Amazon’ type of operation. I don’t think they have a store so their overheads must be small.

If Andy confirms he got his phone and it’s factory unlocked, this is a superb deal.

I just got mine from Electrozan, 2 hours back the 32GB for KD.379
the product is really nice, and v,v,v fast. it is slighlty more expensive than your KD,300 pricing u said, but thas was cheaper than Dubai i came from there last week, and i heard alot of complaints and problems in the Australian version of Iphones, as they are having a manufacturing defect plus in some lots there are issues in the speaker…
the guys, are giving it with many free programs and full servicing and replacement warranty as per their Kuwaiti saleman for the iphone.

also can you provide us links regarding the problems with australian iphones because I just googled and couldn’t find anything. i would assume all iphones are built in the same factory with the same specs so if the australian ones have problems so would other iphones from other countries. i could be wrong of course.

I paid 379kd, but i think the machine is really worth it in dubai it was for Almost Dhs.1600-1575….It’s working brilliant, the speed is more than 3 times the old version, as i had it last year. it is lovely, even video recording and quality is better than Blackberry…

379 is much man ! I checked electrozan too, they are telling that the “software unlocked” version is comig to.. them they might offer it for KD.299 for the 32 GB, that is cheaper than 379 , but if it is updated by itunes it wil be locked…problem ):

It took Apple 2 years to release a firmware (software) that allows copy/paste + video recording + still no bluetooth file sharing + a few more issues .. and people still buy this piece of crap!
I just don’t understand people…

Not a fan of sesame but last time I checked the price of sesame bread wasn’t fixed, so it ranges between 30 & 40 fils per bread, that is 12633 & 9475, respectively.

Update: The iPhone 3Gs is now available in-store (32GB, black only, for now). There is a purchase limit of 2 phones per person per day. So if you have already asked me for a 32GB BLACK, i will cancel your online order and go pick up the phone from the store (cuts down on the waiting time).

I will keep you updated should the other phones be available in-store!

Okay everyone. I didn’t receive mine yet, but I have two friends in the UK who have bought from these guys with no problems. Updating on iTunes okay / serial numbers show HK models.
As Agged Hunter says, they state on their website “Factory Unlocked”

I have bought it with a UK Amex card and shipped to a UK address (Aramex in Slough)
This means that any issue with the phone being ‘software’ unlocked will entitle me to a full refund under the Sale of Goods Act (1979) and the Trade Descriptions Act (1972)
Saying that, I have a couple of satisfied friends, so I trust their judgement.

My recommendation is to wait before you get the 3GS!

My best friend just got one from Italy while he was in vacation, after 2 days of using! he realized that the battery draining too fast!
he tried to fix the problem by recharge it longer and reformatting the iPhone encase of software problem! unfortunately, the phone still draining way fast then the normal rate! and I think the only way left to solve it is, to send the Phone back to Italy for exchanging or refunding!

check and read about it because still no one knows if it software or hardware problem yet!

I read that issue online by a few people as well. It happens when you use wireless or connect to a 3G network.

Ask your friend to see if there’s an option to reduce the power on the wireless antenna (does the iPhone give access to such fine-grained options?!)

For the price you paid its probably not an official Apple unlocked. Why? Because in the UK they don’t sell unlocked iPhones so sellers are getting it from somewhere else in Europe. In europe the 16GB iPhone 3GS is 599 euros which is KD245. The fact you paid KD211 means its a locked phone thats been unofficially unlocked by a seller.

I would have to agree with Mark. There is no way these iphones on Amazon.co.uk are officially unlocked judging by the prices I would say they are all from the US and unlocked by the people who are selling them. Unless somehow, somewhere, these people decided to help the world by losing their own money to sell people officially unlocked iphone 3gs’s at cheap prices out of their own good will…In other words, its not happening.

Hey guys, Sydney’s Apple store has FINALLY stocked up on the iphone 3Gs 16gb as well as 32gb, in both black and white. If I have sent you a tracking number from Apple, forget it. I will be canceling all online orders and picking the phones up straight from the store instead. Buying online is taking way too much time. So you should all be receiving your packages by next week, and I will be sending you an Aramex tracking number by Monday at the very latest.

From Australia, you can get the officially unlocked iPhone 32 GB for like 300 KD including FEDEX shipping. Still though, she is giving a good price, and I don’t see anything wrong with her making some profit from the services she’s providing. It’s a very good price/delivery. If you like it, take it. She didn’t claim it’s a non-profit.

i got mine yesterday, the whole thing cost me 300 KD including everything! i was playing with phone since yesterday it’s really fast and the digital compass, video recording and voice commands are incredible

i just got the 32GB yesterday for 349KD from alghanim (Xcite). also you’ll receive 3 coupons. I got 9 KD worth of purchase (3 KD each). & my friend went & got 15 KD of purchase (very useful to get some a car charger without paying more) Works fine.

I bought my 32gb 3gs from Australia. In the Chadstone Shopping Centre Apple Store. The list price is AU$1040, but because I’m a tourist, I get a refund on the sales tax. So converted, I actually paid US$820 still including tax. You get the refund in your credit card after you make a claim at the TRS desk after customs in the airport.

The phone came officially unlocked. I didn’t have to put in a request to have them unlocked. These units should have a small white sticker on the box to mark them as the unlocked ones since they also help customers who want to activate with an australian carrier.

I was able to buy 4 iPhones. This was just this month. Each customer is limited 2 iPhones for outright purchase. I got my husband to buy 2 on his credit card. Only credit card payments are accepted for outright iPhone purchases, and one charge at a time.

So if you’re looking for officially unlocked iPhones, either buy a couple of units if you visit Australia or Hong Kong. Make sure you go to the Apple Store, not a carrier or reseller since they charge to unlock it. It also helps if you know someone who lives on those countries so you save on airfare. I was in Australia to watch a musical, but took advantage of the time there to buy the iPhones. No problems since.

It’s a lot cheaper than buying from eBay since those sellers usually get their units from these countries who already sell them unlocked! With eBay, you have to pay the sellers’ profit too.
