Kuwait Heart Foundation breaking Guinness World Record today

If you’re at the Avenues pass by the Kuwait Heart Foundation area setup since along with the Faculty of Medcine Students they’re attempting a Guinness World Record today and need your help. Invite your friends and family along as well since they’re trying to break the record for the highest number of BMI testings in 8 hours.

They’re starting from 12pm and ending at 8pm so pass by when you can.

Thanks BuYousef

Update: Just heard the record was broken.

Update2: Not only was the record broken but it was shattered with 9,023 measurements which is more than double the previous record. I’m curious to know if they’re going to end up sharing the total average BMI. My guess it’s going to be pretty high based on the fact we’re one of the fattest nations in the world.

mark, the fast food liking in the people is somuch that most of them dont care for the wakeup call. cash counters of the fastfood resturants never go silent 24/7

i went and saw them and it wasn’t very informative. i felt like they were trying to get as many measurements as possible without answering some truly interested people.

These are mostly undergrad students who spent a whole Saturday working hard to achieve a target which happens to be a world record – and they thrashed it.

Apart from typing this useless comment, what have you done today? How has society benefited from your waste of oxygen?

I was at one of those booths, we saw a range from underweight to morbidly obese, we explained the measurements and what they meant, i.e. their weight according to their height is ______.. and that falls into what category and we even calculated how much weight they would need to lose to go into the normal BMI range. We handed out brochures that explained more in case we didn’t have time to answer every question. Many people were surprised by their measurements, and some were very well informed and were on their way to losing weight and wanted to get their BMI checked again. Others knew they were gaining weight but hadn’t stepped on a scale in months, and were shocked by the numbers and decided to do something about it.
I hope you re-evaluate your point of view.

They just might also break the Guiness Record for the highest per capita BMI measurements recorded in a day, anywhere in the world. Another first for Kuwait – bravo alek!

It was our pleasure! I really hope that this makes a difference! And I would also like to address a point to all the sceptics. Its true that the event was labeled as a guinness world record event, nonetheless, the fact that we needed to break a record actually drove us to reach as many people as possible and steered us away from performing a half assed campaign. Now, 9,023 people know their BMI numbers.

They haven’t said anything about that so I am not sure, but the booth that I worked on had an average of overweight to borderline obese measurements.

I was one of the volunteers and it is not a useless thing! Many people were shocked when I told them they were overweight or even obese and asked questions. It was a good fun event, people realised they truth and we broke the record!!

So did you guys also factor in the waist fold thickness while you were at it? Useful opportunity came your way to kill two birds with a same stone.
Next mission should be to spread awareness about the trans fat contents of foods- brand wise and then food type wise. You could even generate a transfatty index for the Avenues as a mall with all its eateries put together and have a league table set up comparing it with say, 360 Mall, Marina, Souk Sharq, Kout Mall and give the verdict on which is the lowest trans-fat mall in the nation. My bet is on Salhiya; if you are allowed to label it a mall.
Good luck to you on that!
The tougher challenge will be to have an individual restaurant guide for Kuwait with a nutritional assessment of what’s on the menu for its trans fat / saturated fat content. Doubt the owners would allow for such a thing to happen without a Govt mandate, though.

the problem is that they’re more interested in breaking records than educating or knowledge, or even statistics. I wish organizations here would stop trying to get into Guinness. Although I participated in that, I believe it is completely useless and a waste of time and effort. They mentioned wanting to break the record, I talked to 4 students, none mentioned analyzing the data. Also, bmi isn’t enough – they should perhaps have added body fat measurements

I was one of the students participating and to be honest the goal of this attempt was to raise awareness more than to break the record. The record merely was a gimmick to draw attention to the event but raising awareness had a marked effect on the people i measured.
