The 43rd International Book Fair launched last week during the big storm and is going to be on until the 24th of this month at the Mishref Fairgrounds. I dropped by on Friday and it was extremely packed, like I’ve never seen the fairgrounds that packed in my life.
This is the largest book fair that takes place in Kuwait and its spread out across three halls. Around three aisles in one of the halls are dedicated to just English books but the rest is all in Arabic. For more information on the fair, click [Here]

Did you find anything by Dostoevsky? : )
Hello sir. I see you have a high quality taste for complex books. Books that complex and deep can only be read by a interesting and complex being as yourself. Although all books by your favorite author is available for free i digital forms, you pursue it in hard copy, possible so you can display your intelligence at your home library. I applaud your above average taste for authors and as a connoisseur your question was very useful in this setting. Yes lets ask Mark if he noticed your author in the pile of hundreds of vendors and thousands of books I am sure he will have noted, and when he says yes there was, I am sure you would collect your money purse or gold sack, and venture into the book store in order to peruse the fine selection of printed books.
The books are available in Kuwait even if they were banned at the book fair, I have seen his books around in Arabic, not sure about the English.
Do look around the country before you fall for dramatics online.
Every single bookshop has Dostoevsky.. Believe me.
So far I went twice and finished two of the three halls… they really have a huge collection.
I bought a good number of books, no idea when I’ll finish them though…
English or Arabic?
All Arabic.
Tbh I didn’t find the English section that interesting, if I can’t find an English book I’m looking for in Kuwait I’ll just order it online.
Does anyone know if they’re allowing banned books to be sold there? I need to complete my stephen king collection.
if the book is banned you most likely won’t find it there although a friend of mine managed to get a copy of the Little Mermaid so you never know. I imagine it would be difficult for the censors to cover the whole exhibit looking for one of the 4000+ banned books.
😭😂😂 i will never understand why that book got banned but it kills me everytime.
Hi, Can you let me know which Stephen King books you are looking for? I have a couple of old ones that I really want to get rid of.
Of course banned books are available there, this is not just a book fair, this is a black market underground book fair, with illegal goods.
i have some collection of Stephen King’s books.. and been collecting dust since i finished them what specific book you are looking for
Visited yesterday and was disappointed. Majority are arabic books which understandable, but limited english titles (most children’s books too). Also surprisingly found a book in Arabic on Darwin’s evolution theory.
Darwin never mentioned anything about human evolution.
Personally speaking, I enjoyed this year’s book fair, to the point of frequenting the place. Excellent selection of history, politics, philosophy, and linguistics books. Moreover, I have noticed that books this year are cheaper compared to the previous years.
I guess that was intentional, books were outpriced last year and I don’t really buy books offline anymore because I use Scribd and Audibles for English.
Hi what is the monthly charge for scribd in kd. Is it worth the amount.
Road 40 on the way to Ahmadi after 6th Ring Road exit, there were 3 holes on the second lane.
All are fixed now Thanks Mark and 248am team for posting this and making the authorities aware.
However road 212 while getting on Road 30 is very bad and we have a lot of traffic issues @ 3:00 PM while leaving from the K Companies.
Majed Magazine, Al Arabi and few others are allowed everything else banned and cursed from the holy book fair
What is the average cost of the english books?
