Niqashna is a platform for open debates that was launched early last year. Every few weeks they discuss an interesting subject and tomorrow night they’re debating the subject of censorship on books. The debate is in Arabic but the Q&A will be in both Arabic and English. If you’re interested in attending (its free), you can get more details [Here]

I don’t support censorship from a practical sense. No matter how hard you try to censor (China comes to mind) the people will still get what they want.
I do however support censorship from a theoretical sense if one actually possessed the means to truly censor (which is near impossible in todays world). Censoring books by the likes of Saed Kutb, Adolf Hitler, Ayn Rand, etc… would truly make the world a better place.
The fact you mentioned Saed kutb as an evil figure earned my admiration, its a shame how almost most people admire and glorify this man.
I don’t get why Ayn Rand?
Did the mullah tell you to not like Rand?
Censorship is censorship, you cannot censor books just because they were written by someone evil like Hitler. Why do you want to censor Ayn Rand though? Is it because her writings possibly threaten an ideology that you follow?
In the era we live in, a book is a few clicks away from being downloaded to your laptop/ipad/phone, I totally see no use neither should ever be banned other’s perspectives/views.
I am against censorship, I don’t think we should ban any book. Our society is shaped by different events such as war, love, hate and religion, which are best recorded inside books. I am an advocate of all forms of books being available, even books which advocate hate. To hide hate is impossible and childish, as a society hate must be dealt with professionally than sweeping under the rug and telling people it no longer exists.
Preach, sistah!
Mothaaa has arrived!
hahaha Brilliant! ♥
Gotta’ admit, that walk in silver (y’know the one) GAVE ME LIFE!
After the book debate can they also talk about CD censorship (Music, DVDs, Video games etc.). Like why is ‘The Sims’ even banned in Kuwait? LMAO
there needs to be a educated committee with based unbiased principles to review fairly all books, especially children’s books.
The censorship in Kuwait is beyond absurd. And when someone argues “There are no hijab-wearing mermaids” as an excuse to ban “the little mermaid”, anything they say after this sentence immediately loses its value.

Its high time this world change.
