Breakfast at Wah Ji Wah

wah1

I usually tend to have brunch on weekends at either Cocoa Room or Street but this weekend I wanted to try something different and so ended up at the Wah Ji Wah Pakistani restaurant for breakfast. I had heard about this place from some comments on the blog awhile back so when my friend suggested it as an option I was like maybe it’s about time I pass by and try it out.

They stop serving breakfast at 11am so we got there by 10:30 and found a table inside to sit on. We ended up ordering the Aloo Paratha (potato stuffing), Keema Paratha (meat stuffing) and Sada Naan with Chana (a kind of Indian bread with a chickpeas side dish). We also ended up ordering Kashmiri tea and regular chai. I didn’t even know Kashmiri tea existed but it turns out it’s similar to chai except they make it with a different tea and add a couple of more ingredients which also turns it pink. It was odd looking because of the color but it was actually delicious to drink.

From the different dishes we ordered the Aloo Paratha was my favorite and it was also the lightest since the other dishes just felt too heavy to have in the morning. In hindsight I regret not ordering the egg stuffed paratha instead of the meat one because it would have made more sense as a breakfast dish. I’m also surprised they didn’t have a cheese stuffed paratha since that would also have made more sense for breakfast.

The total for everything came to around KD1.5 which is cheaper than a cup of coffee at my usual breakfast spots. But I doubt I would go back to Wah Ji Wah for breakfast because it’s just too heavy for me to have. It’s still worth experiencing though especially for the pink Kashmiri tea. They’re located in Salmiya Block 10 near the park and here is their location on [Google Maps]

You should try their Dinner meals. They might contain more oil than Ahmedi Plant but I promise it’ll be worth it!

Hey Mark,

If you liked the Pakistani breakfast then you should try a newly opened restaurant named “Kabana” in shuaikh. Its quite huge and a big place to sit plus it has the tastiest Pakistani food so far (as per my opinion and few others as we tried almost every Pakistani food here). Their prices are a little more than Wah ji Wah but still worth the taste. If you want to have a heavy dinner you should go there or if you want a tasty Pakistani style breakfast you should go there on friday and ask for “Halwa Poori and Chana”. Halwa is basically sweet and poori is kind of a break and chana you already know I guess (chick peas). If you wana try that you should go there before 10am and they open 6am. That breakfast is served only on friday and worth trying. Below is the link to their address on facebook:

guys! you must try Tabaq Pakistani Restaurant which is located in Mirqab Kuwait city. They est in 1955 and thts wht make them kuwait first pakistani restaurant.
Wide variety of pakistani foods at a very effortable price.

I’ve tried several pakistani restaurants and regardless of the extra bit of oil, the food is delicious!
I’d rather prefer biryani from a pakistan restaurant than an Indian one.
The only problem is, I have not seen any good pakistani restaurant with a proper dine-in area, except for the one located in sharq I guess.

Haha – I get a little sad when you discover these places. It’s the same as when you find a gem and don’t know whether you should share it. Many of these places are gems to a lot of us.

But c’est la vie I suppose :D.

Mark, try the breakfast at Tabaq Pakistani (its the restaurant near the roundabout with the mosque in Mirgab).

You’ll have to wait for a table (they are very crowded), and they serve only proper breakfast at breakfast time.

My recommendation:

1. Tea
2. Plain paratha x 2
3. Yogurt
4. Omelette x 1
5. You can ask for a potato paratha or an egg paratha

Other options available are the normal naan + chickpeas “channa”; and “chapati” (don’t order this).

The plain paratha is the best.

There is plenty of seating upstairs but its closed in the mornings. They open at 6 AM and breakfast is till 10 AM (try to arrive early though).

After 10 am the breakfast kitchen closes as they start cooking for the lunch service.

Dont want to die very young. The oil they use could solve the pakistani fuel crisis. But tasty … Good things come with a risk.

try peeping into their kitchen if possible and just see if basic hygiene standards meet your expectation or not…. suggest, keep the speed dial on 112 just in case….
