I don’t know why it took so long but we finally have a dedicated cheese shop in Kuwait! La Maison Du Fromage is a new store that just opened up and specializes in everything cheese. Right now they have over 60 different kinds of cheeses but they’re expecting 40 more kinds to arrive soon with the majority not available in supermarkets.
The store is pretty cute but they’re still in their soft launch stage so they’re still stocking up on their products. They will soon have cold cuts, caviar, truffle and truffle oils as well as kitchen tools for cheese. Basically, they’ll be carrying everything you expect a cheese store to carry except for the wine.
La Maison Du Fromage is located in Salmiya near Gia. Their instagram account is @lmdfkw and will be active soon. If you want to check the place out they’re open from 10AM to 10PM and here is their location on [Google Maps]

I know I’m gonna get my ass whooped for asking this but fuck it.
Will they have vegan cheese? LOL I need some tempeh in my life!
So glad there’s finally something like this in Kuwait! Making your own cheese boards and charcuterie will be so much easier. But even in the west, wine is seldom sold at a fromagerie so we aren’t missing out on much 🙂
I hope they don’t flip the Euro into KD.
you think they wont ??
As much as I love a cheese shop, I don’t think its going to last in Kuwait. There’s no “cheese culture” here as in Europe. People aren’t used to other cheeses apart from labneh, kraft, cheddar etc. Maybe it will be more popular with expats. But the fancy “stinky” cheeses there will also probably be pricey. Even for instance whenever we go to Avenues on a weekend, Dean & Deluca is always packed inside and out, however Ive never seen anybody ever at the cheese station buying anything. These are my personal views and observations.
I totally agree.
I’m usually the only one buying the fancy schmansy cheeses at Dean & Deluca. No queues whatsoever.
Yeah, there aren’t that many cheese connoisseurs around here let alone in Salmiya I reckon.
Actually, cheese boards are in in kuwait and you’ll find that many food caterers and restaurants have cheese boards all of a sudden, so obviously there is demand for cheese.
I am a cheese lover, and I am sure there this a community of cheese lovers in Kuwait, but I am not sure if it is big enough to ensure the success of such business.
What I am saying was said about high quality meat cuts when they were first introduced in Kuwait.
Such business will succeed if they are able to establish sourcing agreements with restaurants just like what the high quality meat shops managed to do. Supplying cheeses to restaurants will guarantee steady guaranteed income streams.
Traaaaa
that was a free business advice…
Yeah, only way this will survive is if they become suppliers for other businesses. I love cheese though and am excited to see what they offer!
Mark, on a separate note, I think you should run a poll on this blog asking if people are for or against legalizing alcohol in Kuwait (starting with home delivery at first until it becomes culturally acceptable to buy at stores). My guess is a majority would vote for legalizing (myself included).
With all do respect if you don’t like Kuwait rules and regulations regarding alcohol you should move to somewhere else
UAE, Bahrain….etc.
I was wondering when you`ll show up, I was missing this : If you don`t like it GTFO….
Alcohol used to be sold in Kuwait and there were no issues at all. It`s like the cheese, you like it or you want to have it you buy, you don`t like it or you don`t want, don`t buy.
Cheers to you.
You can always move to Saudi Arabia or Iran when Kuwait legalizes alcohol
Or we can crowd fund your one way ticket to Mars 🙂 You and your Martian buddies can get drunk all day long and run each other over with your Rovers
Blackswan:
Yes dear ,it was sold until the 1960′. It was banned by the national assembly of Kuwait. Please don’t compare cheese to alcohol(very bad example). Cheese does not make you drunk and threaten the lives of others.
AA:
Your probably not Kuwaiti or the kind that lived his/her life outside of Kuwait and recently came back missing alcohol.
Not respecting the nationals assembly vote reflects your lack of Kuwait history and democratic practices.
A one way ticker to UAE/Bahrain is very cheap. Have fun there
Well said Abdulrahman, we can’t make the whole world to be exactly like the West culturally or from a religious point of view. I never tell people not to drink or have their tongues down each other’s throats in public (gross) when I am in the West. I TOLERATE it. Same thing goes both ways or don’t let the door hit you where the sun don’t shine on the way out.
