Real, or not real the reaction quite a few gave is disturbing. It’s just sad how you decide to laugh at someone’s English, not everyone is fortunate enough to end up with families that can afford to send them to school. All I can say is good for him trying to make a living and not just giving up and begging people for money.

At the very least the name, number and picture should have been omitted.

Come on! This is not funny. It’s a quite tasteless to be honest. For a university graduate, your English grammar isn’t that perfect, you know…

As a manager in my company I do fix resumes of staff before forwarding it for other positions and you are right the mistakes that come from college grads are just as bad… Do I laugh as I correct them? Yes I do .. I am only human after all.

If the above CV said Lebanese, or Kuwaiti or Egyptian it would have still been as funny. I can imagine only if it said American or British it would have been even funnier.

This isn’t funny cause it says “Syrian”, its funny because of what it says. I could care less about the politics of my country and its neighbors, not everything needs to be related to politics.

It woulf be lovely If we were not judged by people according to our nationality. But in real world there are some sensibilities among neighbouring people that cannot be ignored.
To Crack a joke about ‘niggers’ you better be a black man, and while jews are allowed to make fun about fellow jews, a german doing that would be just crucified-
So when you write you are Lebanese, post such a cv (which actually would be funny if it just avoided to put a nationality label in this Joe Doe) and then even make sure to answer to your very first commenter who dare to say it’s a spoof “I think it’s real” then some suspects can be harboured by people like me who have witnessed several episodes of ‘lebanese’ racism against syrians in the recent years.
So, Mark, if you managed to bring up this hail of comments just because you actually knew nothing about recent lebanese-syrian problems and sensibilities, then I would advise you to be more informed about arab issues or just avoid them at all, and keep going with your excellent restaurant reviews, which btw i find really useful

APhdholdingSyrian: I am up to date on the recent Lebanese Syrians problems but I don’t see how the military build up along the Syrian borders is related in any way to this CV.

Personally i find this funny!! There is high possibility this is fake…..But Mark having the most read blog in kuwait, i think it comes with a “little” responsibility. Ofcourse Family Guy/Simpsons makes fun of people stereotypes, but thats whats the shows are about really….making people laugh…if you don’t like it, you can choose not to tune in.

Otherwise, your Blog now is very close to being a very popular media source in kuwait, just like the newspapers and tv channels, you said it yourself in a previous blog entry that 248am.com is in the top 100 websites accessed from kuwait along with google and amazon, and that your blog was featured in books and magazines.

Its totally up to you ofcourse what you write in your blog, but i have a feeling that you will lose alot of your readers, by publishing entries like this..

Anyways as i said am from the people who find this funny with some reservations ofcourse on being published on a popular blog…

as a Kuwaiti living in Canada for the past 8 years Ive come to respect your blog and website as THE only reliable website of its kind, that is up to date with whats “new”. Ive seen all sorts of funny video clips and great reviews. the website overall is an apparent success, and i commend you on your efforts.

This post however, is merely confirmation of your lack of decency as well as basic respect of ones privacy. You have not only lost my respect, but the respect of many of my peers who are regulars on your site. Its easy for Mr “My arabic is worse than this guys english” to laugh at this guys expensive, when he himself is Arabic. I would have expected such crude and immature humor from a 10th grade student at UAS but not someone of your stature.

Yes.. Yes.. i know, its funny! lighten up! . sure i would have gladly, but his full details are up, without an attempt at even censoring out his number or name. i find that to be pathetic.

I assure you most of your readers that follow your blogs here feel the same way, and along with myself they will no longer be regulars on your site.

Yes, if it’s a fake, then maybe it’s worth a bit of a giggle to some people. But the point here is that Mark posted this with the idea in mind that it is REAL (see his comment number 2). When you are pretty sure something is real, posting it with a name, phone number, and photo for everyone to mock and ridicule is unethical, obnoxious, and downright mean. And as many people here have mentioned, Mark, for a supposedly American-educated college graduate, your English is hardly something to boast about! This guy – and even if it’s fake, then all the other people out there with poor English skills trying to make an honest living – is obviously not from a privileged background that would allow him to receive the best education available that money could buy – which you did, so what’s your excuse? As a native English speaker, I often CRINGE at your grammar and spelling. And while we’re on the subject of your grammar Mark (you didn’t use it in this post but you often do, and it’s especially cringe-worthy): it’s “LET alone” not “YET alone.” There, got that off my chest!

Oh this is nothing dude. My spelling sucks and this is with a spell checker so you can only imagine how it is without! I used to have a big problem with then and than but luckily thats been fixed 🙂 Will remember the let/yet thing the next time!

While I also find the joke distatestful, I believe that we should give Mark a break.

For someone who is clearly more interested in sharing creative topics with the rest of us, he certainly does not seek to publish controversial issues and has already clarified his position on the matter.

I dont think about humor as good or bad … its just humor .. gives a tickle in your belly and makes you think. With blogging, things have gotten so spontaneous, I dont think Mark would have looked so closely at the nationality. So ppl lets get a life … and let humor be humor.The point to take home is ” If you cant write English or Arabic .. Don’t try !!!”

Ok that says it all. Now i understan. This blog is only for those who agree with Mark. If you are one of his cronies that listens to everything he says then you are welcome. Real sign of weakness, Mark.

Maybe you should put your personal details on here if you really think it is ok. What is your tel no? What about your DOB? Can we get a mug shot too? No … i thought as much but it is ok to do this about Wassim because he is a joke to you.

If you read what i said, i didn’t say i didn’t like your blog [quite the opposite until now that i have discovered we have to be your cronies]. I merely think your post was bad taste and you should retract the man’s personal details before you ridicule him. At the end of the day yes you can do what you like but we all have to be accountable for the things we do and say as adults. Ok, so maybe you are still in high school?

I think you don’t understand, let me see if I can make this clearer.

Say you bought a magazine, lets say FHM. You brought it home, you flipped through it and you didn’t like the articles what do you do? Do you:

a) Email FHM tell them their magazine sucks and that since you like cooking they should turn it to a cooking magazine
b) Next time you just don’t buy FHM and buy another magazine

Now what you did here is choose option (a) but you need to understand that its not up to you what I post or not post here and that I don’t have to make any changes to please you. The correct answer to the question above is (b). If you don’t like a magazine you don’t buy it the second time. Same goes with this blog, if you don’t like what you read just don’t read it again.

I really can’t explain it in any other way. I hope you now have a better idea of what my whole argument above is.

Also, just in case you missed out on the dozen or so posts above from other readers who were trying to explain this to you but the CV above turned out to be a fake. A FAKE. Do you know what that means? It means not real, as in made up.

Is it so hard to understand that I chose that nickname to ‘make a point’: I would not dream of telling people what studies I did or boast that, that would be quite nerdish. But in this case it looked OK to me just to stress that you can’t generalize: while we all concede syrians are not the most fluent people on earth in English, we are not all that ignorant as some of us IF PROVOKED are ready to remind other people about it. And at least we still put an effort into preserving our beautiful arab language and are not accustomed to boast how our English or French got better than our ancestors language.
Sense of humour is a relative concept, maybe I may lack it. I guess syrians are still stuck to this stupid old-fashioned sense of honour while refusing to share our neighbours’ big sense of humour.
P.S. Braggers in my country would be smart enough to avoid to do that in shawarma places (I imagine the reaction: mashallah, a’andak pee ache deee kamaaan,, mabruuk khayyoo, sharraft al-hara! Zakkirni, khayyo, hiyye model abu 6 aw abu 8 cilinder?).

Ok. This is my last post, your don’t stay to long when the owner of the place tells you to kindly get lost. I wrote enough and thanks for the debate, it’s always healthy to keeping our brains working.

Just before leaving I would like to give the floor to Mark’s own words.

Mark, I tried to belive you when you said how unbiased you feel towards syrian people and that it was just by chance that you got that fake CV file from the Lebanese Forces website. I thought maybe you were confused when you added that that syrian untermenschen stuff was true and credible.
To give you that chance I took the liberty of typing ‘syrians’ in the search engine of this blog to find a confirmation that syrians are for you like anybody else and politics does not enter in your humourous lifestyle blog.
I found the answer to my doubts, here it is. Mark, I hope you won’t censor it. Any answer is Ok to me, and BTW, you are not under process and I won’t obsess you and criticize you further.

Mark: would n’t it have been easier to tell us: hey, I’m a free man, it’s my blog, I don’t pretend to be a swiss guy free of the ‘middle eastern’ disease of harbouring racist or political prejudices. I’m a proud Lebanese Maronite who has a clear cut sympathy for Kataeb and/or LF, i think they are good guys, and that their enemies are bad guys, because the helped the Syrians who invaded and occupied my country and did not leave us to keep living in love and harmony as we always used to do before those backward syrians woke up a day in 1976 and came to our place for no clear reason when we had spent the few months before their arrival really enjoying ourselves in our typical, very european, almost French, style. I can laugh at a movie blatantly portraying my beautiful country as a terrori.st shithole made by people who bombed it last time just 2 years ago, but won’t forgive the syrians. They their heavy accents and rude ways they remind me that we used to be an arab nation, for a while. Pity the Nation.

Please take your anti-syria conspiracy with you on the way out. This post was a fucking harmless joke if you didn’t see that then you missed out. Kinda destroys your conspiracy theory that I am anti-syrian doesn’t it?

You know what.. I dont even find that funny! The poor guy is looking for work and we’re all laughing at his spelling? English is not his first language I’ve seen some large signs outside of stores with spelling that is just shocking!
I just don’t see the humour in it.

@ Mark: I really can’t believe what I’m reading! Are you summoning those who didn’t appreciate your oh so great sense of humour not to visit your blog any longer? Am I the only one who is shocked to read this? So, Instead of showing some common sense and admitting posting this c.v was fully wrong, you summon those who have other opinions not to visit your blog anymore? This is truly the behaviour of a spoiled little child, which is not willing to admit his faults. I find that very very immature to be honest.

I remember a while ago, in your blog there was a request of a guy who was interested in a position in Marketing. He asked you whether your company has any vacant positions and you answered him to send you his c.v. I wonder where that poor guy’s c.v, including his personal detail, have ended.

please don’t put words in my mouth. Of course I don’t have a problem with people who have different opinions than mine. Is this your first time here because if you’ve been here for more than a week you would know that. What I do have a problem with is people who come in here and dictate to me what I can or can’t post and expect me to cater to them like a Mcdonalds employee.

Secondly if you actually read the post you would know that this guy didn’t email me his cv, it’s been circulating the Internet via forwards.

Anyway I am locking this post up because I am really really tired of repeating myself over and over to people like u who don’t bother reading and just post stupidly.
