Everything You Need to Know About the New Kuwait Airport Terminal 4

Over the weekend I flew to Dubai with Kuwait Airways, and so got to fly in and out of the new Kuwait Airways terminal, terminal 4. The terminal still has a lot of work to be done to it and so a lot of changes are still happening, but as of October 15th, the below information is accurate.

Right now, only GCC and Middle East Kuwait Airway flights use the new terminal.

Departure

– The exit from highway 50 to terminal 4 is still closed and the terminal 4 sign has been covered. The only way to get to the new terminal is through the cargo terminal exit (there are signs).

– There is plenty of parking, all shaded and right now for free. They haven’t installed entry or exit gates so you could park your car there short term or long term and not pay anything. This is a huge plus.

– None of the self-check-in machines work. I tried the ones on the parking side, I tried the ones inside the main terminal, none of them worked.

– You only have one security checkpoint which is right after passport control. The security guys didn’t seem very confident but were wayyyy better than the Jazeera Airways terminal guys. They have the full-body scanners but they weren’t being used. I wonder if they will ever be used here? When the scanners were launched in the States, people had privacy concerns because you could see the shapes of private parts with these scanners, I think people in Kuwait will have an even bigger problem with this.

– There is no duty-free yet, there are no shops whatsoever at T4 right now.

– There are currently no restaurants at T4. Your only options for food and drinks at the moment are 2 Costa kiosks and 1 Kuwait Airport kiosk. Both kiosks sold coffee, water, sandwiches etc..

– There is a lounge (pictured above) but only for Kuwait Airways business class and first class passengers. So if you have a platinum Visa card, American Express or any other card that usually gives you entry to lounges at airports, you’re out of luck.

– One SUPER strange thing about the airport was the PA announcement chime. In airports before they make an announcement, you’d here like a ding dong like chime before the announcement. For some reason at T4 the chime they’re using is the same one used for The Undertaker’s walkout music. I’m not exaggerating, watch the video above and then watch the video below. Every time they made an announcement I was expecting the lights to go off and the Undertaker to make an appearance. Such a weird chime to use at an airport.

– There was plenty of seating around the airport spread out over two floors. All the seats have power sockets and USB ports although I had to try a few before I found working ones. I’m not sure if the seating will be enough when all Kuwait Airways flights start using the terminal, but for now, there is plenty.

Arriving at the airport, parking, checking in, going through passport control and then security was all a smooth and pleasant experience. There were some minor issues, but understandable for a newly opened airport.

Arrival

– This was super smooth. The plane was fairly empty so passport control was a breeze.

– Right after passport control is a carry-on baggage security check, this is the only time you scan your bags. The luggage that comes out on the conveyor belts already passed through a scanner before coming out so you just pick them up and walk out of the airport.

Overall a pretty positive experience. When I travel to Dubai I usually take FlyDubai but this time the Kuwait Airways ticket price was cheaper so figured I’d try them out. I’ll most likely fly out with Kuwait Airways again next time because of the new terminal and my positive experience. I could nitpick a lot of course but honestly, ANYTHING is better than our old airport, so I’m just glad we have this new terminal to keep us going until the new airport opens up in a few years.

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments.

Update: As of October 22, 2018 the new Terminal T4 is now open for services for all Kuwait Airways Flights To/From GCC, Middle East and Europe except for London.

When I was there last week, the self check-in machine was working. I checked in to Doha and got my boarding pass printed.

Hi. Thank for your detail update and the undertaker chime was hilarious.
I wanted to know if there was any phone facility inside t4 after immigration when u enter?
Since I know there are phones available to make local calls inside duty free ares of main Kuwait airport terminal

That was an accurate description of my experience a few weeks ago to Dubai. Sad that the self check-in machines still don’t work

I must say arrival was very smooth too

Typo: “So if you have a platinum Visa card….you`re out of luck” should be “So if you DON`T have a ..” i believe.

I flew to Beirut this weekend, and I had to pass thru the full-body scan, and also go to the security check room for a pat down. they were only asking females to go thru both security checks which were of course handled by women

That`s how it goes in Turkey /Antaliya, the scanner will be manned by the same gender security personnel as the passenger, went through this procedure this summer.

Am sitting here at the bayan lounge on T4.
Everything looks amazing except for the staff at the lounge. They seriously lack customer service training. I notice how they are all from the same state in India and none of them have pleasant mannerisms or the basic awareness of their iob.
Its sad to see this.

I am European.. i come and come through kuwait an I live somewhere else – IT IS STILL MY AIRPORT, especially when I keep waiting 1 hour 30 mintues to pick up my luggage!!! so yes. IT IS OUR Airport, especially when you get absolutely rubbish service which in every other country i have been to always takes NO LONGER THAN 30 MINS.. ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!

Travelled to Beirut last weekend and it seems that lounge access is also available for the Kuwait Airways Oasis club Gold or Silver card holders.

Aside from some of the current shortcomings Mark mentioned, here are some of my own:

– Taxiing time to and from the runway seems much longer than from T1.

– When leaving, we had to take a bus to the plane although few gates were free.

– When coming back, we had to wait about 25 minutes on the plane which was explained by the captain as due to shortage of ground staff. (ramp access)

– No regular taxis are available yet at T4 and the Limo Service wait time was more than half an hour(around 1 AM).So I had to take a shuttle to T1 (5 to 10 minute ride) to grab a taxi. I would have parked my car there but I had been told by the KU staff, when I checked in the night before, that there weren’t any long term parking at T4.

All else was fine and I definitely didn’t miss the crowd.

Interesting point about the taxis, I didn’t notice any when I was leaving but also wasn’t looking for them. It must be super inconvenient for people leaving the airport and want a taxi.

It was very inconvenient, but it is good to know that T4 has long term parking; hopefully they will take their time in installing the entry and exit gates. lol

I see an opportunity for Careem and Kuwait Airways to join forces. But first Careem has to provide advance bookings in Kuwait

The runway that is closest to t4 is closed. It’s under maintenance. So they have to use the other runway. That’s why taxi seems longer. Once the other runway is open the will be much shorter time for taxi.

I traveled from T4 this Saturday and there are still no taxi’s available. Extremely inconvenient, as I had to walk to the main road and hail a cab there (took around 30 minutes before one actually pulled over). The cabbie said they were actually not supposed to pick up anyone from T4 and that I should have gone to T1.

Frustratingly, there is a designated area for Taxi’s which I was guided to by the signs in the arrival hall, but you will find no taxis there as it is simply not being used (yet?). I’m using the terminal again this Thursday, so if anything changed I’ll post an update. 🙂

Just like with the Jazeera terminal, why didn’t they open any shops and restaurants? What’s taking so long?

Hi Mark,

did you park your car there and if yes then for how long?
i`m travelling to Dubai through Kuwait Airways by the end of October for 5 days so should i park my car there or they might troll it.

thanks.

People in Kuwait don’t have a problem with body scanners elsewhere, so they shouldn’t start complaining really.

This being a public building can you imagine what it will look like in 3 to 5 years with no maintenance no paint only the floors swept and mopped with water. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I am a little bit disappointed they didn’t think to make it into a silent terminal with zero public announcements for enhanced passenger comfort.
Full marks to KU for not allowing access to Amex and Diners club card members traveling coach in their dedicated business and first class lounges. It’s only being fair to their passengers. Also how do passengers arriving on code share airlines such as, MEA connect on a KU flight in T4.
I actually think the full body scanners would work better for Kuwait given how nervous security officers are frisking strangers and giving a pat down to foreigners most especially, Asian ajnabees.
Right, Safaa?

Do you think they would still have the free parking in november, Will you update once they have the security gates for parking. thank you

So far no, but i heard from a steward that a new lounge for loungepass (specific CC holders) will be opening soon.

I have Visa Signature card and Loungekey digital card. The loungekey shows that the lounge can be accessed with the Visa Signature card. Any idea I can access.

An update, Flights to London Heathrow T4 is now operational from Kuwait Terminal 4. I don’t know since when, but my booking is for 11th Jan.

Any info on Shuttle service from Old Airport (T1) to New T4?

Thanks in advance.

I’ve been waiting for almost 3 hours now for my next flight at transit and I cant even get a bottle of water because they don’t accept foreign currency nor do they have currency exchange outlet. How convenient.

I will be travelling from Delhi to London on Kuwait Airways witha layover at Kuwait Airport Terminal 4. Layover time is around 3 hours. Is there a need for a transit visa?

I traveled to Beirut back on Feb during the official holiday.
When I came back, I reached T4 it was around 1:45am. Had to wait till 2:30am to get my bags. Being so damn early, I couldn’t ask anyone to pick me up so i had to grab a taxi.
After 30 min one taxi showed up. They guy who is responsible for the service said: Maam, do you have any issue sharing the taxi with someone else? of course not. We end up 2 people sharing the same taxi, going to the same area, paying 10KD EACH.
What a theft!!!

Now, Are parking still free over there?

pls advise me if is it possible to change flight in 50 mins.I am coming from Milan and want to go Delhi
