Top 10 Countries with Highest CO2 Emissions Per Capita

The chart above hit the front page of Reddit a couple of days ago. It excludes islands or else Bahrain would also have been on the list right behind Kuwait. If you’re wondering the reason for the high emissions, it’s because the oil and gas industries generate a lot of CO2. Here is the source of the data.

Egypt should be at the top of this nonsense list. Egypt’s pollution levels in its Capital, Cairo – is beyond belief. The colors black and gray are tainting everything and everyone because of the soot in the air.

Check it out for yourself. Egypt takes the crown no doubt.

My money is on Cairo, Egypt… It can even beat any other whole planet when to it comes to pollution.

Trust me.

Is it per person (the carbon dioxide that they cause to emit by their actions) or from the country as a whole (industries and people) divided by the number of people?

Country as a whole divided by number of people. Kuwait ranks highly because of the O&G industries and the artificial life sustained here (air con, desalination, transport, etc.)

Let’s not forget, gulf populations are tiny. Compared to other countries on the list Kuwait has the population of some decent sized cities while Qatar barely has a population. I think the per-capita is unfair and should be per thousand/million instead. Let’s not forget the only reason China, India and other industrialising countries aren’t on this list is due to their extremely high population.

but that’s the issue you see. Why is such a tiny country with relatively small population churning out so much pollution? Same with diabetes and obesity here.

Livestock farming contributes to 18% of human produced greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. This is more than all emissions from ships, planes, trucks, cars and all other transport put together. Wanna take a guess who would top that list?
Btw that VICE episode on obesity in “Kuwait” has been disabled in “Kuwait”. :/

Hey mark,
i think the table above shows data as per 2014 which is 5 yrs ago just so you know. Not that much change would come to kuwait readings but thought would be better mentioning.

Yeah my linked source says 2014, the original reddit poster didn’t put a source for his info but when I googled I noticed the source I have linked was similar so I guessed that’s where he also got the data

Oil and gas industries were the cause stated by a Reddit top comment. But is it accurate?

As far as I know, Kuwait has very little refining activities and most of our carbon emissions come from the electricity generation and water production.

We can ask Kuwaitis not to drink water. And we can’t ask them to not use AC in hot summers. And the World shouldn’t complain that a nation population is trying to survive the harsh environment they were born in.
