It’s well made,a little extreme but then again so is human history and the problem being discussed on is pretty serious and well warranted, so don’t be too quick to dismiss it.

whats sad is the response people generally have to this topic.

@Sean

Call me a racist or person with vast imagination.. most people concerned with climate change dont really give a **** about other people in the rest of the world… especially our part of the world.

The Age of Stupid film is one of the examples. I’ve seen many trailers for that film.. they were in many languages, including Hebrew. Arabic is not mentioned not on their website, not in the trailers, not even in the film itself.

Hebrew is spoken by less than 6 million people world wide. Arabic is spoken by more than 600 million world wide. Do I really need to wonder why our language or region is not ever mentioned in the climate change debate? my guess would be the value or people. obviously the six million hebrew speaking worth more than the six hundred million arabic people… either that, or we are viewed as mindless people who dont have the brains to get involved in this topic.

To be honest with you, i couldn’t care less about our value to them or what they think. but its such a sad thing when i hear them talk about threats to squirrels and crabs or even plants and algaes… and they feel those worth more than human life.

its like when they have a discussion about how important the natural aquifers and how they must not deplete them.. and then they call us sons of bitches for not pumping more oil from our depleting resources… the same resources that our whole population existence and wellbeing depends on.

it gets even sadder when i realize its not only about us in Arabia.. this is about their ‘way of life’ against every other human being. The only reason they talk about india and mention in the film is because india standing up and arguing with them.. in comparison to india, they’re not too harsh on china since china is producing their products..
and talking about that… i’ve noticed that most of the papers and debates are not complaining about china’s manufacturing growth and its associated energy it demands and so on.. but their complaint is about the change in life style of the chinese people into a more urban lifestyle!

what a pity.. yes i pity the people who would rather have nations wiped out just to continue with their life style. One might say people dont think about it that way… well, in all the seminars that I attended, this is exactly what people were debating “i’m not going to change my life style for another person in some other part of the world”, couldn’t get any more blunt than that?!

funny thing comes to mind.. remember before the last invasion of iraq? how people around the world were rallying against the war? no blood for oil? i now really wonder how many of them are having good time because of that blood…
biggest importer of iraqi oil is china.. oil is used to produce electricity.. electricity is used to run factories.. most electricity consuming processes is aluminum manufacturing and fabricating. I wonder how many of those people who were rallying stopped buying ipods, ipads, iphones, macbooks and imacs… iraqi blood is still being shed because of this oil.

see.. its the whole system that control our lifestyle is corrupt. people lifestyle is decided base on tv adverts and hypes… those are run by big corporates that basically own our lives (banks, jobs, etc etc).

I will be interested to listen to their debates when we are viewed as peers, when we are viewed as partners, and when we are not asked to hinder our development for some young brat who want to buy another ps3 or a petrol head who wants to drive his v12.

I hope now I’m not too quick in dismissing…

Hate to burst your bubble, 3azeez, but Arabic is actually spoken in the film. They don’t even do a voice over, instead they translate it at the bottom of the screen.
Granted, the ME region may be the region that shows little/no care towards climate change. However, don’t you think that the West’s obsession with climate change is fuelled by the attention the media gives the issue, which may explain the lack of interest in the ME (the media is obsessed with the wars, etc)

And here’s a statistic for you: The UK had one representative at the world climate conference in September, and he wasn’t even a government rep. Kuwait had 3.

Needless to say, I do suggest people come to watch the film, it’ll give you a new perspective on climate change

@The Green Initiative, obviously you’re the one inside the bubble…

Yes the film did interview Iraqi family, but just because ‘Arabic is spoken in the film’ that doesn’t mean the Arab region is brought into the Climate Change concern. Yes Arabia, just like Africa, is brought into the issue as an excuse to be used against China and India to slow down their development!

As for your “statistic” it only supports one of my points… Even though the climate change issue is caused by the ‘developed world’ and it will most likely cause them the greatest damage, other countries like Kuwait are not viewed as peers… they are dragged into it as a country who has “one of the highest carbon emissions per capita” and therefore must take some of the most drastic options such as nuclear power!

Yes we may have highest carbon emissions per capita but we also have a handful population with the highest standards of living and contributing only 0.2 percent of the world emissions.

To summarize, developed countries think about maintaining their lifestyle when tackling the issue of climate change and expect the developed countries to slow down their development in order for the developed to maintain their lifestyle… completely ignoring the fact that most of those developing countries emissions are due to services produced for the developed ones.

Should we be aware about climate change in Kuwait? yes, but there must be special care when getting the information to understand what is our position and what responsibilities lie upon us in this region.

I am not against the climate change debate or the EU point of view regarding it, I was just ranting about the Age of Stupid film and some of the ideas that the promoters of CC issue have.

You must understand that the issue of climate change has different aspects and it varies depending on where you’re standing and where you come from. From the quick look at your website it seems that you’re just copying whatever information is available about the issue and promoting them… it is not a ‘localized’ perspective, it is not based on our local situation and state. That is a problem in my opinion.

correction:

developed countries think about maintaining their lifestyle when tackling the issue of climate change and expect the developING countries

silly coz here I got something completely different from the movie, i thought it was about the World and its issues with not being able to deal with consumerism.

Its not an issue with any specific kind of nationality – hence you had a british bloke, talking to a guy in france, to an Indian entrepreneur who claimed to want to help the “common man” by being an airline mogul?, to a lady in Africa who had her whole family taken away coz of greed by companys to drain every ounce of the natural rescources around them.

Again, Its a well made movie, where they show the reasoning behind each persons need to go on living the way they do.
Simple strong message really – change or else it could get to a very drastic stage if not for you then the next generation

It simply highlights what someone once said, i could be quoting it wrong but it go’s something along the lines of – “it is difficult for a person to change if his well being depends on it”

p.s. there is no talk about squirrels or tree hugging in the movie or anything of tht sort, just ppl going about their daily lives doing wht they need to do to survive at the cost of everything around them.
