While at the Avenues I spotted the Kindle Fire at Office Depot. They’re selling it for KD85 which is around KD25 more expensive than Amazon (without tax and shipping). They also had a few accessories for the Kindle Fire but didn’t spot any of the regular Kindle’s there.

I got mine from the states. We paid 80kd for the Kindle Fire plus a
Leather Cover. Definitely waaaay more expensive here. Carrefour and Geant are also have the Kindle Fire. For around that price too 80-110kd.
More expensive yes but I wouldn’t mind paying an extra KD15 if it means I can have it right now.
How does the warranty work then? Would you still be covered under amazon as receipt would say ‘office depot’?
When you buy black/grey market items you expect to have warranty. Kindle Fire isn’t meant to be sold in Kuwait so I would be surprised if there is local warranty. With Amazon though all you probably need is to register the kindle with your account and that’s enough for warranty. Amazon aren’t anal on these things.
actually if u buy it from office depot they are offering a 1 year full warranty and in case it can not be repaired for some sort of factory defect they are happy to change it for u
85 is “waaaay more” than 80?

does it accept arabic text?
no idea, i actually just ordered the galaxy tab 2. had to chose between the tab, archos 70 and kindle and decided to go with the tab although “kinda” regretting not going with the archos. we’ll have to see.
Arabic text is still broken on it, in some applications really… (i.e. Twitter and Browsing) So to answer your question no.
Yeah arabic text doesn’t work and I haven’t figured out away around downloading apps – it says I need an american credit card/ I have my american po address but doesn’t accept it without an american card- won’t accept kuwaity one, ive had my kindle fire since february and have downloaded nothing-
create two accounts… One with kuwaiti address and another with american adress, use ur kuwaiti visa in the account and with the kuwaiti visa buy a gift card, send it to ur self, and redeem it in ur american account wh ich is not connected to any visa…
Wowwwww weeee!! That’s fantastic! Thank you!
I just recieved the kindle fire i ordered 2 from amzon it costs 126 kd + 17.8 kd (aramex shipping+bkuwait custums) and a 7 days to arrive to kuwait
To sum it up
Each one costed 72 kd
But i am having problems with downloading books and video, it dosent have a vpn connection to use usa ip
hey u dont need a vpn to download books.you need to set up your amazon account as USA based. you need VPN only when trying to stream movies off Amazon. You could get a wireless router with VPN built in.
I hope this means soon they’ll bring the other Kindle readers. For magazines and comic books the Fire is good, but for serious reading you need the e-ink display since its reflective not active.
Also, if you are like me and you need it for manuals, the larger Kindle makes it so that you don’t have to scroll or zoom a lot.
galaxy tab 2, u mean the galaxy note 10″ version… otherwise the asus transformer pad 300tf would have been the better choice… more bangs for the money
@the real burhan – reading comics on the kindle fire is a no no…7″ is bit small…ull have to tap to zoom each panel to read the ballon
ummm no.. I mean the Galaxy Tab 2… https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B007P4VOWC/2406d-20
Kindles will be seeing an update in July-August not sure what will happen exactly but one thing for sure is the Backlight feature on the regular Kindles.
Office Depot has been selling the Kindle Fire since I believe December of last year seen it there and it’s a good option for those who don’t want to wait but then again I like getting my Amazon gadgets directly from Amazon (feels a bit better for some reason) good luck with the Galaxy Tab 2, which model did you get?
I got the 7inch, it will be replacing my Archos 7 as my video player when traveling on the plane. The Archos 7 kicks ass, it’s probably the longest electronic item i’ve owned (since March 2009) but it doesn’t play HD videos…
That’s cool.. review it, I was tempted by the latest one but then I am waiting for the next generation iPad (mini) although it might be a unicorn gadget (one we hear about but never see hehe).
Mark,
How definitive is that thing about downloading books on Amazon Kindle Fire in Kuwait?
Do you only need to set your account as US based (just changing address) or is a US issued credit card a must?
Anyone with some insight, please chip in.
I download books on both my Kindle’s without issues. I use a Kuwaiti credit card for payment and i DON’T use a VPN.
But other people have issues doing the same so not sure why some people can do it and others can’t.
I have just got my kindle fire and bought a book with a kuwaiti credit card but am having trouble downloading free apps, it says “your payment method has a non-USA billing address..” any way around this? BTW the address i have on my amazon account is a US one.
Just a tip, don’t download magazines. I don’t know if this happened for anyone else, but my account worked just fine here in Kuwait, and then I bought a magazine and it wouldn’t let me buy anything anymore because I wasn’t in the US. I then had to use a VPN to buy one book, and then it worked again without a VPN.
I got one for the misses not too long ago and for her its okay because she likes the size (easy to carry around) and only uses it to read and occasionally browse the net and listen to a song or two, but personally I’d never own or use one.
If you want to read books I advise you to get the e-ink Kindles, because this thing browsing, listening to music, or playing video is sluggish and annoying. The screen size is good for reading, but not for doing any of those other things. I highly recommend the iPad over the Kindle Fire, or recommend the e-ink Kindle’s over the Fire if you plan on reading. BTW iPad has the Kindle app and you can read and buy books the same exact way as you can on the Fire.
for my own opinion the purpose of kindles are for eReaders who loves reading books etc. and not for browsing, playing and other stuff that iPad can.. i rather choose nook tablet it has much better specs.. 🙂 but nothing compares the smells of a real books that can wakens your medulla oblongata.
sadly to say here in kuwait there’s a restriction when it comes to books haha.. i’ll bet they’re never ever release the fifty shades of grey trilogy hahaha which is very addictive.. 😀 (i’m smirking)
