Back in love with DHL

I tend to flip flop between shipping companies A LOT and most of my long time readers know that. Not sure why shipping companies can’t stay consistent but I love the fact we have options to choose from. Two years ago I said goodbye to DHL Borderlinx, they had increased their prices, started charging based on volumetric weight and their customs clearance thing was very random.

Last week I decided I wanted the new Galaxy Tab 2 7″ as my portable movie player for my trips. It was May 23rd and my travel date is May 31st so I needed the Tab before that. I hadn’t used DHL for over 2 years but based on feedback I had read I was told they would be fast. I placed the order on Amazon and this is how it went:

I placed order from Amazon on May 23rd
Package arrives to my DHL mailbox in the States on May 24th
Package ships from my DHL mailbox in the States on May 25th
Package ready for pickup in Kuwait on May 29th

That’s fast and best of all I didn’t pay any tax since their US mailbox is based in Ohio. Shipping cost me KD6.5 and there were no custom duties. Total price I paid for the Galaxy Tab including shipping to Kuwait is just KD82.5!

lol a Kuwait version of will it blend!

I hate android and it’s not going to replace my ipad anytime soon, it’s replacing my aging Archos 7 that can’t play HD movies.

An example of how much Android sucks, I turned on the Galaxy Tab and I’m going through the mandatory setup wizard and it asks me what’s the name of the person that will be using this phone.

I was like phone? wtf? what did i order? I had to check the box to make sure i didn’t get the wrong order. stupid android lol

Wow, you make it sound like someone threatened to nuke your apartment lol, chill man it’s just a setup wizard on 10000+ different devices, something is bound to be wrong.

Also, it will replace your ipad if you used one of those emulators, N64OID is one of them. Did i mention you could use your PS3 controller with and android ? Something you will never use on an iOS device anytime soon.

Iam not sure of the specs, but I would assume it is 3G and you can use it as a phone, if that is the case then it is correct.

Now it is not the Android OS, but the manufacturer thats shooting these questions. You should stop your criticism on android.

For the iPhone, without using the SIM card, you cannot go forward, that is stupid. Simply because it is a smartphone and features such as browsing, internet connection do not require SIM card. Putting this feature up on the iPhone simply makes the iPHone a NOKIA phone from the 90’s.

My tablet is wifi only not 3G so the question about who would be using this phone is completely wrong. They could have said for example who will be using this device instead and that would work for phones and tablets.

As a consumer I don’t care honestly if it’s samsungs fault or android, it’s the end result that matters and here as a first time android user coming from iOS I found this mistake at the very beginning very sloppy.

iPhone has it’s own issues and I’m not here to compare which is better.. not right now at least since I just started using Android but I can tell you so far there are great things about Android and a lot of not so great things.

I don’t think the “phone” was a typo from Samsung or droid, the 7.0 tab still has a phone dialer. hehehehe.. In a way you can say that Samsung also confused to call the 7.0 TAB or PHONE 😉

Cheers,

YES! Just tried it, copied a 720p mkv file and a 720p mp4 file and it played both flawlessly. Although with the mp4 if i forwarded into the video the audio would lose sync. Need to experiment more with that.

exactly Gus 🙂
back to the shipping topic… are they not charging on volumetric weight anymore or what?

DHL are great if you need something fast but I find their pricing to be whack sometimes.

I ordered 4 rolls of film and a focusing screen and they charged me 14 kd shipping.
I ordered six packs of guitar strings and it was mailed in an envelope and they charged me 8 kd. proof with pictures of the package:

How did they charge you only 6.5kd for a tablet notebook? When I ordered a Kindle Fire they charged me 15 kd.

Don’t know, I paid online and had two options to choose from. Standard shipping which was like $19 i think and express which was $22. Chose express. Package took 4 days and didn’t pay any customs.

Mark I experienced something similar when I ordered some stuff off amazon a few months ago. Sometimes, amazon will pre-pay the customs so you just pick up your item with no fees attached once it reaches kuwait ( which is awesome). It has nothing to do with DHL being great, its just that amazon is footing the customs charges.

As far as your new Android toy, someone on this forum told you sometime back that resistance is futile and that you would be assimilated 🙂

That’s not the case, amazon did not foot any custom charges, why would they the item got shipped to a US address not international.

I’m not sure about your borderlinx account. But Both my cousin and I ordered electronics a few months back that were sold by Amazon and shipped directly here to Kuwait. No duty/customs of any kind. I inquired about it here and the DHL serviceman showed me a code that was printed and on the label and informed me that it was paid by the shipping party (amazon).

hi mark, i tried ordering it from amazon it keeps saying that it cannot be shipped to my address !! what address did u use?? i dont understand?? i need specific about the process i wanna order one and order dr. dre beats too . please help 🙂
