Beach Clean Up

Don’t have any plans this Saturday? Here’s something you can do, clean up the beach. You get to meet new people while also making a statement. This beach clean up is happening alongside the 350.org international campaign where people all around the world come together on the same day to perform a good earth deed. This year that day is 10/10/10 but due to the fact that would be a Sunday in Kuwait, a work/school day, the event in Kuwait will be taking place on 9/10/10 instead.

Location: The beach between KFC and Fridays on the Gulf Road
Time: Saturday, October 9 · 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Activity Website: Facebook

since camping season is coming soon, might wanna clean up the camping areas, which are far filthier than the beach, plus those fences on the highway which have been acting as trash collectors for years

The beach between KFC and Fridays is a very small strip “to perform a good earth deed”. Considering Kuwait’s coastline and the fact that most people don’t mind littering the beach, the campaign should cover a lot of ground. But then again, unless people develop an awareness, I don’t know how much difference one clean up day would make, at one small beach!

While cleaning a beach is always a worthy cause, why isn’t any body even talking about the extreme pollution in the water? Raw sewage is still being dumped into the water right at the shore. This crime against nature has been going on for almost a year now. Just take a boat out to sea and see for yourself the extent of the shit out there. And that’s just what you can see from the surface. The press has been gagged, and the people are sheep.

What a nice suggestion, but it really wont make a difference. The next day new trash will pile up. Has anyone been to Kubbar lately?! Its full of trash and shameful that one of Kuwaits’ most beautiful islands needs to be filled up with trash. Everyones mentality is the same, ” If i throw it away, the guy in the yellow suit will pick it up anyway”.Plus, you find a lot of trash in the water as well. There is a significant ignorance and negligance on the treatment of trash by the local population. The ppl need to be educated!!! Its a pitty , a really pitty.

Mark thank you soo much for posting about the event! THANK YOU!
and guys, some mercy please? i only planned this in like a week and half, i saw kuwait only had one event so i wanted kuwait to be more active. you try juggling school, 2 different set of exams and a beach clean up.
ill hopefully do something bigger next time
happy birthday karamel

Why do people when you suggest one thing always end up complaining that there’s even more.
Yes, there is.
But one has to start somewhere,… :S

Anyhow, just wanted to point out an ongoing project:
Keeping Kuwait Clean (the name might sound familiar, but that’s really a coincidence).
They have managed two successful beach clean-ups so far (maybe after camping season those camping areas will be tackled, but just maybe some of the campers feel inspired to motivate their fellow campers to do a big clean-up? 😉

Anyhow, here’s the website.
Just thought I might point it out:

Next clean-up will be on the 27th of November:

Thanks 🙂

I am happy to read the comments about Keeping Kuwait Clean. Unfortunately, we can’t handle every environmental issue there is but we can most certainly begin to tackle the issues surrounding trash.
Since the clean up on the beach in Mangaf there has been a major shift in mentality. If you drive by the beach you will see that no longer are the majority of individuals leaving behind their trash. In fact they are tying their bags and leaving them for collection. Each and every evening the beach is being enjoyed by families, friends and those who come to play sports. The number of people using the beach and increased and the trash left behind has declined.
I invite all of you who think our efforts are pointless to visit our site and join a work party.

Adam – if you go to our website http://www.keepingkuwaitclean.com and go to the Links you will find a group called Kuwait Dive Team who is involved in the marine environment.

I want to leave you with one final comment. Take responsibility for yourself, this is how you can do your part. Put your trash in the appropriate container, clean the area around where you reside and set an example that others will want to follow.

Hope to see you all November 27, 2010 – Abu Fatira Beach!!
