Bluetooth Advertising

Sultan Center just started a new form of advertising using bluetooth. If your phone’s bluetooth is on while you are shopping in Sultan Center you might get a animated ad sent to you by them. Its an interesting concept but I think its annoying more then its a good thing. The only way not to receive these ads is to turn your bluetooth off which is a hassel if you are gonna do this everytime you go shopping there. If you want to check out an example of an ad they sent my phone click [here]

Yeah, I was in Marina Mall yesterday and got this animated ad from Hilton advertising their open bbq today on the beach, and if you show them the ad you get a free gift. pathetic loosers! u even get spammed in malls now!

Wait until 3G comes online… supports more sophisticated information sharing (primarily due to larger bandwidth and new protocols). They should be able to pinpoint you. Should you have a public profile on your phone, they could technically send you targetted and customised adverts that their system believes is most suited to your profile – based on interests, tastes, age, etc…

smart stuff, the information age is upon us

this only works bc most ppl here are BT losers that always have it on to use their stupid headsets or to msg other gays with female names. it’s a new form of spam that is perfect for kuwait.

I personally think its cool, i dont mind getting ads via bluetooth 😉 and if i had a buisness i would consider doing that myself 😉

my bluetooth is always off and I only use it to sync with my imac. I guess few years from now I will try to get the most basic phone to avoid this kind of spam and a PDA for organizing stuff

Heh I used bluetooth to advertise a college campaign two years ago.

Sakta, that’s one ad, imagine if 20 were coming your way.

Driving a manual I have to use a headset! The turns are a bit difficult while switching gears and answering the phone. And yes I can talk and drive at the same time! Thats why my bluetooth is on! But I would hate this type of spamming!

this is a new media in kuwait. u will find bluetooth spam at supermarkets, malls, and in-stores.

it’s a great idea if used the right way and ridiculous if used the wrong way. Right now most of the stuff u receive are companies testing out this media.

marzouq you drive a manual? wow. do your feet hurt after being in the traffic jams and stoplights while never being able to shift past 3rd? i would hate to drive manual here even though it’s a lot more fun.

Hi, I’ve been following your conversations regarding bluetooth. My company is actually implementing these bluetooth services in Kuwait and I’m always interested to hear what people have to say about it. I agree with everyone that spam is a major problem which is why when we put our network together we were sure to set non-spam parameters. If you reject the message once, you shouldn’t receive another request for at least a week. Also, no matter which location you go into, you shouldn’t receive more than 3 messages in a week. If this is not the case in any particular location it’s probably because we are doing testing and optimization. Within the next few months we hope to bring a number of services that you would actually find useful, so bear with us. I think you’ll be impressed.

I think it is a great idea from sultan center, they have lots of new ideas and are always expanding, i have heard that they have a new printing and advertising company, think its called Sultan printing industries, in dajeej
anyway its what we need in kuwait, we need to come close to what Dubai is doing.

Hi! i was in Kuwait 4 years ago and that was being given a huge consideration back then in Al Shaya retail store. We the mangement team did it manually to get inside the parameters of potential customers. Quite an effort for our competition initiative!
