Can I own a weapon in Kuwait?

As an expat am I allowed to own a hunting rifle? What about a handgun? Are hunting rifles and hand guns counted as two different things? The video above is supposedly of the largest hunting shop in Kuwait. Lots of rifles on display but can I own one? I am not planning on hunting anything and not sure what people actually hunt in Kuwait but I’m just curious to know the laws of owning a weapon. [YouTube]

yes you can have a hunting rifle if ur over 21 ( which i presume u r ) we call it 9achmah.

But for a real hand gun you will have lots of trouble getting the lenience and tara5ee9 stuff so it’s better you get the 9achmah which only requires ur signature at the weapons store .

Thats what i know ,for further information go to the store and ask

ps people go to the desert and hunt birds and other creatures ( gazals and so on ) which they mostly do it for fun then release the prey ( assuming you don’t kill or injure it heavily ) , if not they would take it to their farm or ja5oor or even try to sell it

Sure you can own any of the rifles in the video, because they all seem like air rifles to me. I don’t think you need a permit for that.

I am not sure about expats, I’d imagine it would be near impossible to legally own a pistol. It is very difficult for even Kuwaitis to get a permit for a pistol. You need an import license in your name first then once you managed to import the pistol (personally or through a gun dealer) you start the process of getting it licensed. Until then, the pistol is held at customs and forwarded to CID.

As for shotguns, Kuwaities can apply for a buying license then if they are approved they may purchase one form one of the stores in Kuwait selling shot guns.

It just sad that this is ‘one of the activities you can do in Kuwait’ People kill migratory birds with these weapons. They are not ‘released’.
The Qur’an Majeed says: “There is not an animal on earth, nor a bird that flies on its wings, but they are communities like you” (Qur’an 6:38).

Mark if your looking for the best and biggest gun store and not all tht fake stuff u would want to go to Ahmed Al-Saleh and Sons Co. who sell military equipment to the us army but thts only there military store there gun store that sells ALL KINDS OF GUNS is called Gader Al Soor..

That store is located in Dajeej behind sears and sultan center. It’s pretty awesome in there but it’s not real guns.

As far as I know only military people are allowed to own guns.

Not only are you permitted to own hand guns, you are also permitted to shoot people who drive while conducting conversations on mobile phones.

Of course you are NOT permitted to shoot and drive, that’s just dangerous driving.

@Mark: Those are air rifles you do not need a permit to use it, however you are not allowed to use it in public places, you are good to use out in the open desert away from public harm, yes air rifles too can cause injuries minimum blind you or a an innocent by stander, recent law has been passed stating that you can have an air rifle as it is not considered a killing weapon etc, but some try to buy the replica ones and put in their car as a personnel deterrent from possible road rage etc.

My advise as a previous shooting gun club president, if you do not see a need for it do not buy it, unless your after some hunting etc or entering the sport etc.

You can go to the National Firing Range and rent real guns there in a proper firing environment and let out the stress or anger one has in them at times or just get the feel for real guns.

The shop you see in the vid belongs to a friend of mine, his name is (Yagoub) Abu Yousef, ask for him he can help you out with any questions you may have.

God day to you Mr. Nawaf,
I am an expat, a filipino.
Can I have the mobile number of the owner of shop you are mentioning? I just want to inquire about air rifles.
I am working in the desert farm of Wafra area.
Thanks in advance.

Edgardo

You will need a pretty good was6a to get a license to purchase a shotgun (which is presumably the easiest to get). I have two shotguns, a Beretta Xtrema 2 and a Browning Cynergy. I had to wait 6 months with a very powerful was6a to get 2 license to purchase shotguns. An over and under shotgun, and a semi-automatic shotgun.
First you have to get an application with 2 pictures and an eye exam (the eye exam is in Kaifan). If you are approved (6 month wait for me), you are then given a paper that basically gives you permission to buy the gun from any shop in Kuwait. Once you show the shop owner the purchase license, they will sell you the gun and write the model number and serial number and date of purchase. You then have to take the gun with the piece of paper to the CID in order for them to register your gun. This takes a couple of days. They then hand you the gun and a license book for the gun (the license is valid for a year and then has to be renewed).
This process was for a shotgun. Handguns and semi-automatics are even harder to get your hands on (legally not allowed). You pretty much have to know the top guy at the CID to get licenses for those.

I agree with smoothy and Nawaf. Although I know not everyone shares this sentiment, it’s a tragedy the way migratory birds are massacred here in Kt. There is no regulation and no point to it. These guys are hanging out car windows while their buddy drives, pointing the gun into the sky (if you’re lucky) or towards the horizon, right alongside major roads! Nice law enforcement.

And as Nawaf says, if you don’t need it don’t buy it. I’m an avid shooter both as a hobby and for self-defense. But there’s no such thing as self-defense in Kuwait, as far as I know. Just go to the shooting range. It’s more advanced than many in the States.

@smoothy
You’re absolutely right. I regularly see guys driving around with a shotgun hanging out the window of their Land Cruiser/Patrol/Pajero or whatever. They just blast at whatever flies past, without ‘thinking’ about it.

A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to see hundreds of buzzards migrating in the sky near Jal Al-Zour. It was one of the most awe-inspiring things to see. Unfortunately, within 20 minutes I had about 10 guys with shotguns trying to shoot them. (Not exactly difficult as the sky was full). When they hit one of these beautiful birds, they simply left them on the ground to bleed to death in the hot sand.
That kind of senseless cruelty takes a particularly immoral personality in my opinion.

Thank god we can’t own pistols in kuwait that is why it is kinda safer than other countries otherwise we would be like america shootibg each other for a candy

American is not like that, I am a Kuwaiti national that is currently residing in the US and carry a firearm legally. With proper training the gun serves its owner. Just like anything else, yes Kuwait does not have handguns but people stab each other with pencils and anything else they can get their hands on. I know this because i was stabbed when I was 14. I was actually curious about the matter myself since im planning on moving back to Kuwait and want to bring my firearm but from the sounds of it.. cant..

I’m getting an air rifle to deal with the damn pigeons that keep sitting on my new house.. My house is vertually brand new and is covered with pigeon shit.. Basically pigeons are rats with wings.. Apparently someone in the neighbourhood is inconsiderate enough to feed these winged-rats so now there’s hundreds of these fuckers all over my house shitting all over the place..
Dirty creatures!! I’ll probably deal with the cats that keep sitting on and scratching my car as well…

Those who really like the hunting sport go to other countries in season for a week’s time. Countries like Bulgaria,Bellarus,Romania, etc

Well maybe in america a lot of people do shoot people for no reason, but who is to say that kuwait won’t get invaded again…guess what you will have no way to protect yourself inside your own home. at least in the states we can shoot people who come into our house without invite. i personally think it sucks not being able to own a handgun. and what also sucks is that me being a female nobody wants to take me hunting with them, it is very gender biased here on what women should and shouldn’t do. it’s ridiculous that i can’t go hunting, who says it’s only for men???

Hey, we don’t shoot people in American for no reason. We shoot them because they are phuckin stupid. πŸ™‚ There’s a lot of road rage and a lot of concealed weapons. I can’t even imagine how that combination would do on say … Fahaeel Expressway on a weekend night. Or 5th Ring Road during morning traffic.

I think it is gender biassed also that women can’t just go out and shoot living creatures in Kuwait. That is so unfair. What we need in Kuwait is indeed a few more people shooting the crap out of the near-extinct wildlife in this country! I say open up those preserved areas! Kill, kill, kill! Maybe they should just let the ladies target practice at the zoo.
It might be a more humane way go than starvation.

What I have heard is that getting a gun permit is very hard, and you need a reason for getting one (ex. Minister, MP, etc.), as for the types of weapons I don’t know if it’s the same license, getting a permit as a Kuwaiti is hard and I don’t reckon it’s different situation for an expat either check the ministry of interior website http://www.moi.gov.kw for more details

Hi,
I did a full fledge research on this…being an expat you cannot even purchase air rifle (9achma)…if you go to a shop to buy, they will ask for your civil ID…and that if you are a Kuwaiti and if you are not, they will not sell it to you…you can buy an air rifle on one of your Kuwaiti friend’s name and use it in your house to practice !

u come russia i give u kalashinkov u drive and shoot my ferends for fun no problem !!! take it easy im kiddin :P:P

If you are planning to get busted you can try getting one. πŸ™‚ I would not even think of getting one, there has been many changes in weapon owning law in the Ministry of Interior especially after 2001.

I’m half american, half kuwaiti. Growing up in the states i own a few guns over there, but have lived here in kuwait for the last six years, and since I got married here I will probably be here for a long time. I really wish I could bring my guns back here with me, especially since some have high sentimental value since they were passed down to me from my deceased grandfather.

Well it’s really stupid if you ask me it’s ok to sell it and ppl to buy it and police simply take away from you when seen with one. There is a licne for owning a pistol but as I heard it’s hard to get one unless you are a policeman or you have a big contact in the ministry of interior as I heard so no hard feelings moi.gov.kw :p

Mark! You’re Lebanese…
When you get an shooting itch, go scratch it in Lebanon.
We’re far more accommodating of gun toting trigger-happy guys over there.
πŸ˜‰

@ miszbuf10…if god forbid we get invaded again, u think u can protect urself with a handgun??

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Owning a “9achmah” is easy , no one actually follows the rules anymore sadly…. I have 2 air rifles both from Gamo and an air pistol CO2 powered, you can buy them easily from almost any shop and one good one is in shuwaikh opposite of electrozan called “Gana9 al Raheeb” , And if you want to own an actual real gun you don’t need wa96a just a reason for owning one , ( home security isnt one) the wa96a is just for getting it faster which my cousins did , i recommend everyone that are willing to buy a real gun, probably a shotgun, they should go first try it out ib nadi il remaya near nadi il foreseya , e5th da2ere il sads o kaml kila seeda untill you see a sign “Kuwait shooting something :p ” ask for mike or muneer they’ll hook you up (Y)

My parents live in Kuwait I have never actually been there but I really want an airgun called the Benjamin discovery. My mother is coming to India next month so I wanted to know if this gun is available there? the aprox cost? the store and area name? and if it is possible to bring an airgun to India.

I am a filipino, working here in kuwait, can i buy a air rifle here and bring it to philippines after my contract here?because i see that air rifle here are good than in my country?is it ok to bring air rifle to the airport?

Is it possible for me as an egyption to buy a real hand gun from gun stores in Kuwait as I already have a purchasing permit from my country under my name for buying a hand gun for my personal use. So if yes,can they issue in kuwaite an export licence for buying a gun under my name and then ship it to my country which is Egypt in my case. By the way does someone know a store in kuwaite that sells sig saucer hand guns(real guns of course).
Please advice

Nayshan in Soor street, Kuwait city is the biggest shop in kuwait…and they sell REAL firearms and ammo, hunting and army accessories as well!

ahhh i wish that i have a real rifle M95 for example if i really can have one i will bury it in my backyard and recover it in case of war .

Actually, Airguns are much more fun than real guns in Kuwait, the only fire-arm rifle you can use for hunting here are shotguns “mostly used for quail and duck hunting” which you’ll have to close range encounter the birds, Airguns you could snipe and focus etc. from a fair distance up to 100yards if you get a pro-air rifle, add to that the permit crap that could take a long arse time, then renew the registration every year and once you miss it, its considered as if you never had a permit and start all over, if you want advices I’d say go for a Benjamin Marauder this rifle is used for Small Game Hunt abroad which Negochi showroom owns, “it can take down foxs and piglets, I don’t think you’ll need more power than that in Kuwait” add to that the price is reasonable.

Blesses.

Would anyone happen to know any shope that sell fine sporting / hunting shotguns in Kuwait? Appreciate contact details.
