Carrefour problems already? Not really.

Ansam posted a letter someone had written to Carrefour management complaining about the shopping cart rules. The person was pissed because he wasn’t allowed to push his cart through the mall. Well yeah, I kinda understand why that rule is in place. Imagine everyone roaming around Avenues with a shopping cart, it would be total chaos. But, if I understood his letter correctly, you are also not allowed to push your cart in the parking lot outside the designated Carrefour area. That I think might cause a problem since when you enter the Avenues parking during peak hours its difficult to find an empty parking spot yet a lone one thats in the Carrefour area. Anyway you can read the letter on Ansams blog. [Link]

I would hate to shop in a mall and have people walking next to me with their groceries and carts! But the parking issue is stupid! Its not fair for the shoppers to walk to their far away cars cart-less and with no help!

Never been to a Carrefour in my life! Whats the big deal about it!

While shopping at IKEA with Nibaq, and K the Kuwaiti we were not able to push our cart to the car after we paid for everything! The car had to be driven to the “loading area” and we proceeded to put our purchases into the vehicle! There are metal poles that stop people from pushing the cart to their actual parking spots!

Carrefour should be great if they bring in the hard to find french products, and most importantly the bakery and cheese corner. I also heard that the steaks are cheap there too. I should check it out, I just wish they had their own enterance. The parking layout of the Avenues is the worst, I get lost there everytime due to very small signs that usually lead to no where. If they do not allow shopping carts to all over the parking lot they should introduce the coin system, but since no one really cares about 100 fils, they should use paper bills say 250 fils at the cart dispenser, this way they ensure that carts are always returned. If not I could make a living out of returning them myself!!

In many large supermarkets around the world you are not allowed to take your cart past the entrance area. And in other cases they have censor locks on the wheels that will only allow you to take the cart a certain distance. And I can particularly understand why they would prevent people from taking the carts into the lot in Kuwait. Look at Sultan Center – nobody returns their carts. They just stick them in the middle of the parking lot making it difficult and annoying for the next person who wants to park. Imagine the Avenues parking lot full of Carrefour AND IKEA carts! I think it’s a good rule. Let people learn how to walk a bit. And they have loading areas in front of IKEA in case you have heavy stuff.

I shopped there twice and had no problem finding a parking space close by. I know that pushing shopping carts around a mall looks tacky and low class but it’s really really helpful, especially if you have kids. It actually makes it easier to shop the whole mall instead of just one store. The Avenues, because of its size, should offer something that would enable the shopper to actually do some serious shopping without breaking an arm or bring maids with them to carry everything.

Good thing they inforced that role, when you go to emirates mall in dubai and see people running around with pushing their groceries full of carrefoour (how do you spell that thing?) bags, it kinda degrages the atmosphere of the mall… i was sooo happy when they refused a woman with a huge cart to go push it and walk around the avenue. Ok you are at the avenue with carrefoor so you are allowed to shop wherever you like. But face it when you are doing your weekly groceries and your frozen food is thawing or you bought fish or meat and its smelling and you walk into Gap with its old stocks and try on clothes… its not nice! Shop at the avenues, eat, drink, laugh, walk, when you are about to finish go do your groceries at carreefoor ( i think i will call it carcor easier) !

I think this rule is REALLY stupid. If I went shopping and had more than 10 bags, how the hell would I carry them to my car without the cart??? That’s really so stupid.

RaZ, here in Oman we are also allowed to push the shopping carts of Carrefour around the mall and even to the parking lot. Carrefour has specific workers whose job is to collect the shopping carts from the parking lot every hour.

what if its an older family with many bags from carrefour who couldnt find a direct parking place right underneath carrefour and had to park a distance away?whats wrong with pushing your cart to where your car is? imagine u were shoppin in the avenues, u finished decided to drop by carrefour do ur groceries and had to walk down in the parking places looking for your car?that happened to me and my family, we had a baby with us it was all very inconvenient.

after all whos this mall for?customers or just to stand there looking good?either build properly organized parking spaces or face having to think of customer convenience for once…i might just stick to sultan centre!

the carts around the mall is justified for obvious reasons but wtf you can’t take the cart to your cart? france dude

Thats the rule in most big supermarkets…theyre just inforcing order. Anyway…who wants to shop with a load of groceries? Its very inconvenient. Next we’ll have ppl with their shopping carts inside the shops!

C’mon ppl….be a little reasonable.

Totally agree with Equalizer and AbdulAziz.

but then again we’re not saying allow people to walk around and shop with a cart full of groceries…but allow them to get to their cars that they cant access unless they go thru the mall!

carrefour in Egypt also allows pushing the cart through the mall ,but ig they enter a shop they’d leave it outside

I stayed in Kempinski – mall of the emirates (Dubai) a few times and always shop at Carrefour (at one end of the mall) and push my cart all the way to the hotel with no questions asked or problems of any sort.

In Dubai you can take your Carrefour shopping cart everywhere inside city center. Now comparing city center to the avenues is really easy, both of them are huge, contain cinemas, restaurants and what so ever. So they are identical in someway, so i think it would be better to be able to take your shopping cart everywhere in the avenues, because it’s a huge mall, you buy a lot of things, you need somewhere to put all that stuff in, and you need it to be easy for you to shop and carry your carrefour stuff at the same time, you can’t walk around a huge mall like that with the bags in your hand, to the car or around the mall. That’s my point of view.

I would like to bring your kind attention to the ailment which I had suffered from your out let in Kuwait. Being aware of your reputation and with great passion we visited your outlet in Kuwait (Avenues) for shopping. Unfortunately this will be our last visit due to the poor service and attitude of your staff. Most of the places when we ask the product we are not getting proper response and instead of answering they were ignoring the customers. From the counter accidentally, a bottle soda dropped from a packet and broken. It was due to poor packing. I was really shocked when your cashier asked me pay for that bottle which was broken. I just questioned this issue but the cashier cross checked with your managers and forced me pay. In order avoid any insult I did not argue this point again and paid in full. Sorry to say that this very cheap service and we never expect this kind of service from an international reputed chain like Carrefour. I urge you to visit other outlets like City Centre, Sultan Centre, Lulu and other local Coops and see how they were serving the customers. Local bakala will not charge such cases. It is an insult to a customer….

Of course compare City Center and Avenues… both huge… but …
City Center has turned from a new classy place to a vulgur place filled with blah stores and smelly odors! We dont want the avenue to turn into that… its really lowers the class of the mall if you have people shopping around with their carts full of groceries…

First off any mall that houses a hypermarket such as, Carrefour cannot claim to be a classy mall. Secondly, trolleys inside the mall should strictly be a no-no never mind if they have it in Dubai or not. Dubai cuts a very sorry figure as a role model in several aspects of yes, even commercial and retail activity. So, phulease… don’t trump the Dubai card any which way you please.

when I will go to carrefour to make my shoping that’s mean that I will not go to the mall to buy some anther items from the shops really if they will not let me pass my trolley to the mall they will be crazy. mohd Ismail Salman
