Dead horses found dumped outside club

Dead Horses

From the Arab Times:

The above photo was taken Jan 5, 2007 of dead horses right outside the gates of the Ahmadi Governate Equestrian Club. Their location is approximately 200 meters from the front drive and across the street from the International Veterinary Hospital on 306-Wafra Road. The horses did not appear to have been shot, but either euthenized on the spot or dumped there by the Equestrian Club staff.

The first set of dead horses can be found approximately 50 meters from the roadside and very close to campers. They are easily seen from the road. The photographer counted 14 carcasses; some appeared fresh and others had been there for quite some time. One of the horses still had it’s ankles bandaged and was obviously cared for at some point in time. The fresh carcasses appeared to be young horses approximately 2 to 5 years in age.

Not only is this a gastly sight for anyone unfortunate enough to see, but highly unsanitary. Animals feeding off these carcasses can easily spread disease throughout the country.

Reason I posted this is because whenever we leave the vet over there, Nat tells me she sees dead animals on the side of the road and I tell her thats not possible and she must be seeing things. Turns out she was right…

Thanks Amerab

holy fucking hell!
i reported this to AFK to investigate this outrageous practice. even if you hate animals this is just plain unsanitary

It’s just sickening how some people just dispose their pets and animals and throw them away like plain old RbK size 9 running shoes without any questioning or confirmation.

I’m not saying that they should build a tomb, place a picture and visit the animal more than they visit their own family members like some people do either. Just a proper disposal will do.

Sorry, I had to mention this.

yeah cremate or burn them. just actual disposal for fuck’s sake. don’t jsut dump them on the side of the road. it’s sick and unhealthy.

That is just disgusting! I dont know how they didn’t do anything about this. Really something should be done about this whole mess! Nobody will prosecute them, thats the problem!

Nat is right. When we went to the vet, we used to see dead animals dumped at the back. Even in the old souk al-haraj, there used to be A LOT of dead animals dumped at the back.
Is it a habit to dump dead bodies in kuwait. We knew someone who worked for the sanitation department in farwaniya. He would find dead fetuses frequently.

yes its one of our nicer traditions in kuwait to allow carcasses to absorb the sunshine and get that one final tan everyone craves…

but seriously. they are quite callous to do that both from the point of the dead creature and the person coming across it.

I have to say I’m so happy to see and read about these things that are not talked about! When I saw these things just 15 years a go I was told not to talk about it. I’m so sorry to say that I left my country 8 years ago because of those unspoken sujects and other reasons. But it’s still good to see you and Nat putting some points that might make a change in that country that I wish it’ll change to the better!!

Awwww….poor horses!! =(

Since these horses are from Ahmadi Governate Equestrian Club, then they are most probably race horses which explains their young ages…its disgusting how they treat them after they’ve served them and got them prize money…the least they could do is bury them!

Oh btw, they are NOT euthenized in that spot..they are euthenized in the stables and dragged out by the stable staff.

Holy shit, I’ve been in the area loads of times, its probably a seasonal thing.
If anyone is willing to invest some monies, I’ll go burn them if they’re still there on Monday.

Mooodi you don’t have to do anything from your own pocket, just call the Baladeeya and they’ll take them and bury them…atleast thats what we do in our club. There are places you can call for these kinda thing, its just that people are soo lazy or ignorant to pick up the fone and call to have them properly taken away.

dats sad but shit happens its nice to kno that were alot more civilized over here than to dump dead animals off the side of the road cuz some people actually care

Animals in Kuwait aren’t buried for several reasons. Before the introduction of cars and reasonable methods to bury such a large animal, and before the advent of such rampant and undiscriminating shooting of birds, there used to be huge flocks of scavenger birds. Dead animals were left outside where they could immediately be consumed by the birds. That explains how this practice was started, but not why it continues. Burying animals is hardly effective as there are no bugs to eat their flesh, and most facilities don’t have enough land to continually bury dead animals. Also, Bedouins fear digging in the desert because of the danger of UXOs. It is therefore the fault of the PAAFR for not providing animal disposal services for the health of all. Personally, if my horse died, I would either bury it or have it incinerated at my own cost. At the very least this is a complicated issue but it certainly comes back on the government and the will of men.
