I passed by Symphony Mall to check out the new Bang & Olufsen store but found it closed so I decided to wonder around the mall to check out what other stores are open. The whole mall is pretty much vacant except for a new store in the basement called Destination XL. It’s a big and tall men’s store that opened up just two weeks back.
The place from the inside looks pretty nice with the layout looking very similar to a men’s section in a large department store like Macy’s. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures of the inside but I spotted brands like Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Joseph Abboud and Calven Klein among others.
It’s too bad the store is just for the big and tall since I liked the fact they carried a bunch of brands all in one place. Symphony Mall is located in Salmiya right next to Missoni Hotel opposite American University of Kuwait. The entrance is from the back side and the mall looks like it’s still under construction but DXL are open in the basement.

It’s a franchise brought to Kuwait by a shaikh … and the prices are crazy!! I mean things that would be $40 on the Big&Tall RL POLO website are sold for 40 KD!!! swimming shorts for 50 KD, shirts and jeans easily 50 – 60 KD and when u check their US website everything is much cheaper. Plus there are no refunds here while the one in the States allows refunds.
What a ripoff!!
Why people always compare kuwait to usa .usa is a huge market they have a huge population as compared to kuwait so there is no way the prices will be the same …
what does the market size have to do with anything?
based on that analogy, prices in china must sky high!
they charge these prices simply because they have willing buyers. The ‘average’ joe would never pay 40KD for a polo in the U.S.
Actually, It’s the other way around. Prices in China would be very low – and that is a fact (due to their large market size).
Anyway, if people want to be ripped off by paying insane prices, then there should be shops that cater to their needs. It’s simple economics.
that is the same situation at Ralph Lauren for kids in The Avenues … KD = USD … I think not!

Is Joseph Aboud still around in Symphony ? Love the cut of shirt and fabric of J Abboud. Also it is not clear whether DXL carries Joseph Aboud or is there a stand alone store for it in Symphony. sorry to say so but here’s one luxury centre that never found it’s symphony.
